Movies I am looking forward to (non Bollywood). This is Dangermousie’s Top 20, and not in any order.

1 King Kong: Peter Jackson +Giant Monkey+Adrian Brody not suffering excruciatingly for the whole running time for once=Dangermousie’s popcorn dream come true.

2 War of the Worlds: Tom Cruise (who must keep a portrait in the attic) and Spielberg destroy evil aliens with the help of Eowyn. I am so there.

3 Memoirs of a Geisha: Neat Cast and a Period movie about Japan. Plus, Zhang Ziyi, Gong Li and Ken Watanabe would make me see the movie anyhow. However, directed by the guy who did Chicago.

4 Spielberg’s Munich project: A movie about the massacre of Israeli athletes at the 1972 Olympics, this sounds a lot more like Saving Private Ryan than E.T. Bring it on!

5 Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith: in case you couldn’t tell from the last few entries :) It’s gonna have huge CGI, a fall from grace of the main character, lots of sword fights and angst. The rat tail is gone, Anakin is hot, and the trailer was good even with dialogue included. And don’t forget the outfits.

6 White Countess: It’s a movie with Ralph Fiennes not playing a psycho. That is all I need to know. Seriously, it’s a love story about a blind aristocrat (Fiennes) and an adventuress (Natasha Richardson).

7 Tristan and Isolde: With that topic, I’d see it even if it was made for TV. When it stars the attractive James Franco (Harry Osborn from Spidey) and from the pics I’ve seen has a really great look, than I am off to the theater as soon as it gets here.

8 Beowulf and Grendel: Norse sagas as a movie? Yes, please. The fact that is has Gerard Butler as Beowulf is just a cherry on top.

9 Batman Begins: Comic movies can be fun. Comic movies with angsty British hotties better be.

10 Fantastic Four: Oh, this is likely to be silly cheese, but what’s the harm in that. It’s likely to have fun effects and Hornblower in spandex.

11 Sin City: it looks visually amazing, has Clive Owen, and Frodo playing a mute cannibal serial killer. Unless it really is too violent to stomach, I must see.

12 Kingdom of Heaven: Movie about the Crusades starring Orlando Bloom, Liam Neeson and Edward Norton. Was Ridley Scott reading my mind?

13 Cinderella Man: Russell Crowe in a story of a Depression-era boxer. By the same people who did a Beautiful Mind. Mmmmm, yes please.

14 Elizabethtown: Orlando Bloom not in tights. Shocking. But cool. Romantic comedy by Cameron Crowe would be my cup of tea regardless.

15 Charlie and the Chocolate Factory: Johnny Depp, Tim Burton, brats and payback time.

16 Everything is Illuminated: Elijah Wood on a trip in Eastern Europe, searching for his family’s past. Come on, it’s Frodo!

17 Hooligans: Frodo as a Football hooligan? Yup. Also yummy Charlie Hunnam from Nicholas Nickleby. Both are too pretty to be Hooligans, but in this case I am OK about dispensing with realism.

18 The Island: Ewan McGregor and Scarlett Johanssen in a Distopia (my favorite sub-genre)

19 New World: OK, it does have Colin (ugh) Farrell. And it is made by Terence (snore) Malick. However, the concept (Jamestown, 1607 or so) is intriguing and the visuals and cinematography look lush beyond belief.

20 Zorro sequel: Sounds like cheesy cheesy cheesy fun. With swords. Did I mention cheesy?

And Dangermousie’s movie that you’d think she is looking forward to, but you are wrong:
Goblet of Fire: Each of the Potter movies has been worse than the last. The awful Prisoner of Azkaban finally taught me my lesson and I am staying away.

Is Elijah Wood just trying to be the Jude Law of 2005? How many movies can he be in this year?

Heh. No ganging up on the Hobbit :) He's only in 3, and he is only the main character in 1 (Illuminated), and a somewhat significant one in another (Hooligans). Sin City is a bit part, but hey, it's my write-up so I highlight what I like instead of what matters therefore no dwelling on Bruce Willis or Jessica Alba :D

War of the Worlds with TOM CRUISE?! Ick, that book is great and adding the TC is just not cool.

Memoirs of a Geisha has Ken Watanabe as well as Zhang Ziyi?! Awesome!

Kingdom of Heaven = mindless eyecandy!

SW: RotS = YAY!

Aww, I liked the PoA movie!

I want to marry Gerard Butler SO BADLY. I can't wait for Tristan and Isolde or Beowulf and Grendel. Bring on the movies!

Ooh! I wanna see Memoirs of a Geisha so badly, but I still have to see House of Flying Daggers...

And of course, the next SW is gonna rock! :D

I hear from a gaffer on the film that Cinderella Man is an awesome film - however, they are also pushing it for an early release and the music isn't done yet. It would like have no soundtrack, but didn't that work for Closer?

And also why is Zhang Ziyi (who is Chinese) playing a Japanese geisha?

Have you read "Perfume"? They're making that a movie, too! Don't know if it's your cup of tea, considering that it concerns a serial killer, but it's a very very good book.

Tristan and Isolde
Beowulf and Grendel
Kingdom of Heaven

Ok, did a new crop of screenwriters just graduate high school? Or did Hollywood delare 2005 the official "old stuff is cool" year?

I don't think they are keeping anything really from the book except for evil aliens invading. I'm OK with that, though the book was good.

Yup, Geisha has a great cast. And Kingdom if Heaven is hopefully good.

PoA: my fave book and I thought they ruined it, but I am an uber-purist when it comes to HP. Love your icon though.

Heh. I am sure there is a long line of girls thinking the same thing. I am so glad about all those medieval movies!

HoFD is really good: very over-the-top melodrama, almost a BW movie only with better fighting.

And re SWIII: bring on the ANGST!!!!!

I would imagine they'd have a score for it by the time it releases.

Re: Chinese playing Geishas. I think they just picked the more known actors. After all, we often have Canadians/British/Australians playing Americans.

Isn't it about a poisoner? Hmmmmm...

ROFL. I think they should have "old stuff is cool" every year. For every 3 movies, you should be forced to make a medieval or scifi or ancient epic. Heck, just close up shop and make only epics!

I loved Prisoner of Azkaban. Okay, only because it had the pretty, but still! Pretty!
I so need to see Memoirs of a Geisha, Cinderella Man, and anything featuring any actor from Lord of the Rings.
I have randomly been shouting "I need to see Sin City" for the past few days, only among my friends. Today I was at a function and I wasn't paying attention to the conversation, so in the middle of somebody's sentence, I yelled "I need to see Sin City!" Yeah, I got some strange looks.

But in PoA, the pretty didn't compensate for the horrid script. There weren't even any cute boooooooys to take my mind off.

Re: I agree re LOTR. Mmmmm...

And I so need to see Sin City too. Only Star Wars is a movie I am looking forward to more. I've been doing my best to stay unspoiled but it's haaaaard.

Btw, mind if I friend you?

Friend away~ I was just about to ask you the same thing :)
Being young, I can safely say I am infatuated (I save the love for LOTR actors) with Daniel Radcliffe without being put in jail. I also love large, old, castles. I will watch any movie involving a castle.

Yes, please, friend away! :)

See, if I liked Daniel Radcliffe that way, I would definitely be put in jail At least in some states. Age of consent in a lot of them is 14, and I think he is older. Still, eeeeewwwww. I like them older. Much much older. Hayden Christensen in AotC is as young as I am willing to go in the drooling-arena. People under 21 need not apply is my motto! Heh.

Love castles. When we were in Europe, I dragged my soon-to-be husband into every castle and church in existence. We lost tons of weight through climbing the stairs. :)

Re: LOTR actors. Certainly worthy of Teh Love.
