You know how I was obsessed with Shanghai Bund, or more specifically, getting my hands on it.

Well, due to the amazingness of [livejournal.com profile] vierran45, I have gotten my hands on the subbed first ep.

And it's official: it just might be the prettiest drama I have ever seen.

I haven't gotten much past credits because I was too busy capping like mad: I love the sepia tones and filters and selective colors.

And of course, the gorgeousness of Huang Xiaoming and Sun Li and 1930s outfits.

How could you resist a story about doomed love and the Mob and revenge?

Seriously. If you could, just check out these caps from the credits - I dare you not to want to watch!

(Yes, there is h/c in the credits itself. Thank you, China).

*grrr, fast motion is so hard to cap*

I am also watching Boys Over Flowers ep 18 and so far my thoughts are as follows:

1. Why Jandi doesn't go for the utterly amazing, caring, gorgeous, and fun Ji Hoo is a mystery known only to God. Not to mention they are writing them as canon anyway.

2. Woo Bin and Yi Jung = most awesome slash otp ever.

3. At the rate Yi Jung is putting liquor away, he is going to become an alcoholic. An alcoholic who likes to imitate Ghost.

4. Heeee! They even gave Woo Bin random angst. That is how you know it's a kdrama.

5. I need to know who the writer for this is so I can avoid his/her dramas in the future. Anyone who managed to turn the canon nazi hardcore Makino/Dom shipper that I am into someone bored by D/M and shipping the uncanon Rui/Makino is doing it very very wrong.

6. My irritation with BOF is especially strong because filmi-girl and I have been watching Meteor Garden and there the whole OTP, Rui, fiancee etc stuff is handled so infinitely better.

lol - am I going to be scared to keep watching because I was a hardcome Domiyoji/Makino shipper before I knew they were cannon!
Also Shanghai Bund looks amazing. I must add it to my list!

SB is so gorgeous.

BOF is, unfortunately, getting derailed. The pity is that LMH and GHS have plenty of chemistry - their interactions sparkle. But BOF is barely giving them any!

That really sucks. It was looking so good from where I'm up to :(

I can do the rest of the 8 English subbed episodes as well, if you want. As long as I can get the torrents to start working (having trouble with ep.2, but eps.3-4 are okay). Just give me some time...

From the glimpses I got while checking that the file is okay, it looks so pretty that I think I'll watch whatever is available as well :). So it's not such a big chore to upload them for you (once I first get them downloaded, that is.)

EEEE! Yay! It really is very pretty - something I noticed about a lot of Mainland dramas. I think the prettiest drama I have ever seen was Return of Condor Heroes (also starring HXM) - they use such gorgeous filters and cinematography.

Pretty credits. I remember wanting to watch SB, but was sad to find that no one was subbing it. Now, it seems like only eight episode have been subbed since August. :(

I keep hoping Taiseng will pick it up for DVD distribution - they do a lot of historicals and come on, they did Men and Legends and that wasn't anywhere near as popular. *crosses toes*

I'm trying to BT episode one now, but I don't think it will work. I'm at 2.2% for the last hour. Taiseng is great in a way and they also bother me in that they always seem to pick the oddest things to put on DVD. Lots of older films and shows I've never heard of. But, they did put out ROCH and Love at First Fight (with English subtitles that, yeah, can be a bit spotty, but are still good) so I forgive them for putting out films from the 70s and yet forgetting about things I want to watch. They do have an email, so maybe you could email and ask about SB?

If you can't torrent it, the super awesome [livejournal.com profile] vierran45 uploaded first ep on MU here (http://dangermousie.livejournal.com/1475176.html?thread=16199528#t16199528).

ooooh, what is Taeseng's email - I totally will!

Thank you! I downloaded it and will save for later. I'm currently trying to get episode two, but there are no seeders. :( I've been at .1% for two hours. Hopefully, [livejournal.com profile] vierran45 is having better luck.

They have a whole page about contacting them here. Email is: vidinfo@taiseng.com for info about movies or comments. Marketing Department contact: vidinfo@taiseng.com. They also have a phone number and a snail mail address.

I do hope something happens with them and the show. Because, I got some info from one of the members of the group that was subbing the series. And it seems that the person who was in charge of the project has been MIA for a while.

I wish someone had started uploading it directly to a com somewhere.

Episode 2 does look rather hopeless. Yesterday I couldn't get it to start at all and now I'm at 0.1% with 608 kb downloaded :P...

But episodes 3 & 4 are much more promising, since I'm already well over 90% in both (92.9% and 96.6% respectively). I'm also seeding episode 1 in case someone still wants it through d-addicts. Especially after [livejournal.com profile] dangermousie's posts about it... :D

For episode 2, I've been at 3.4% for 12 hours. For episode three, I've been at 96.9% for the last two hours, but it is seeding.

It seems to me anyway, that people don't seed/watch mainland or Hong Kong dramas, because after a week there are never seeders. :(

Date: 2009-03-11 12:19 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] vierran45.livejournal.com
I've managed to progress from 0.1 to 4.8% on episode 2 today, so I'm feeling optimistic that I will get all of it at some point. It just might take a while :).

And since they are going so slowly, I've got torrents on the rest of the episodes going on as well and actually managed to get the entire episode 4 earlier. Episode 3 is still at 97%, 5 at 76%, 6 at 19.4%, 7 at 22%, and 8 at 0.1%.

You're doing better than me. I'm stuck for both episodes. (4.7% for ep 2 and 96.9 for ep 3). It's been that way for ep 3 for hours. Ep 2 is moving, though I think you have something to do with that. Seems like your seeding/downloading is going well. I'll keep seeding/downloading for a while, too.

I think Yi Jung/Prince Song need to be made canon. They are the only ship in the show now that doesn't make me want to strangle anyone.
I really do not get what they are trying to do with this drama.

Ai EEEEEEE! I have truly truly truly exploded due to a surge in female hormones induced by the prettiness and smokiness of HXM!

i love the fedora thingys they wear, the scarves, the sharp suits, and the sometimes weird but oddly sexy combination of western dress with the cheongsam both on the men and women! i love the women's hair, their clothes, their shoes ( they all hark back to a time when women were truly women and dressed like it!), the jewellery (i love the gold bangles that Sun Li wears throughout)! i love the music both the opening and ending themes, lol, am driving the BOYFRIEND mad with my off-key rendition of the opening song by francis yip, first the mandarin version, then the original cantonese version! i love the angst, the revenge, the guns, the constant struggle between revenge and love and friendship!

i love the multitude of MVs on youtube that i can watch to my hearts content. i even love the vids of the 'making off' of particular scenes! i love that HXM who doesnt drink or smoke in RL, apparently starts feeling faint after taking 3 puffs on the cigarettes for any particular scene!

EEEEEE! Lurve!!! And i would never have found it if it wasnt for you Mousie!!!

and if you need to watch it raw, i think you can find it on tudou.com

and i am OVER BBF! it's not that i hate Ji Hoo or anything, it's just that the prodn company or writer seems to forget that the story is about Jun Pyo and Jandi! bah!

Good! That way I don't feel so alone :)

The outfits and jewelry and shoes are all so gorgeous - I love the suits and hats on the men and the shoes and dresses on the women - so gorgeous.

I've started watching ep 1 and so much love. Mmmmmmmm! Except for making me want to know Chinese, dammit!

i love that HXM who doesnt drink or smoke in RL, apparently starts feeling faint after taking 3 puffs on the cigarettes for any particular scene!

That's both hilarious and hot. /hopeless. Also, he is older than me by a bit so I don't feel like such a perv :P

i love the angst, the revenge, the guns, the constant struggle between revenge and love and friendship!

Seriously - the plot of this thing was written by someone who really knows what I love!

And I leave you on the gorgeous outfit note:

I've had no real desire to watch the Korean HYD, if only because I felt the j-drama did well enough on it's own, that I wasn't too interested in re-watching the same story.

However, I have been skimming through people's reviews on it and looking at your screen caps.

That said, if this k-drama actually goes the way of Rui/Makino, I will definitely watch it. In the j-drama, I did sometimes wonder how the two would work out and apparently in this k-drama, the two have a good relationship together. I mean, come on, from what I've seen/noticed so far, korean Rui is pretty much your perfect boyfriend. I doubt they'll ever go this route, but if they do, I'll be the first one on that train.

The way they are writing it, if I didn't know the ending, I'd definitely assume R/M was the endgame. So bizarre...

Production Credits

* Original Work: Manga Hana Yori Dango by Kamio Yoko
* Production Company: Group Eight
* Director: Jun Ki Sang
* Screenwriter: Yoon Ji Ryun

I guess the screenwriter is the same thing as a writer? Idk. He doesn't have a d-wiki page, though, and isn't that the same company that did Goong S anyway, that no one liked? o_O

Yup, they did Goong S. However, they are also doing Iljimae with Jung Il Woo which is basically perfect - acting wise, story wise, editing wise etc. Clearly they only have one good writer and he/she was occupied and couldn't do BOF.
