I got through the first disc and didn't have the fortitude to stick it out. I also had a slight amount of trouble keeping up with what was going on, mainly because the sub was so bad. And this was the OFFICAL sub. Was the witch good or bad? Was that crazy old woman that he just met his grandmother and why did she live in a cave? I think I understood the whole deal with the naked karate, but why did that kill Goo-Goo? But then she didn't die, but they don't really explain. WHY!? WHY?!

LOL. My subs are pretty OK (occasionally weird but generally fine). I find that fansubs are usually the way to go with these though.

The witch was bad, the grandma is not his (but the girl's). I haven't gotten to the naked karate part yet :) She can't really die though I think because she isn't really human...

If you want dvds, the dvds have understandable, though sometimes screwy subs.

I really love the story except for one little detail... that is that he ALWAYS refers to her as gu-gu... as a chinese speaker you have no idea how morally wrong that is.... :)

this is because gu-gu actually means...wait for it... auntie! i mean, seriously! hello?! you call the woman whom you love as a man 'auntie'!!!???

They translate it in the subs too, which is a bit odd.

In Russian (my first language) you use the term 'aunty' to refer to any woman you don't know, when you are a kid (as in 'Aunty, can you tell me where the bus stop is?') but yeah, it's be peculiar with a gf :)
