Yeah, I am spamming. I am still reading Red River manga, slowly but steadily. I don't love it (yet) but I do like it. I think the fact that I can just read it at the bookstore really helps (the biggest problem with Basara was that I liked it well enough but not enough to invest in a bunch of volumes sight unseen).

Oh, oh, oh. And THANK YOU [livejournal.com profile] calledinvain. I started Her Majesty's Dog. I would have never checked it out because cover for first volume looked weird but now I am almost all the way through the first volume and I love it beyond words! I can see marathonning it. And you are right, it is so easy to pictur Yamapi and Maki in the leads. But HMD deserves its own post which is coming so I'll stop. For now, though, I want to talk about my not-too-guilty pleasure of late.

Oh, Sensual Phrase! I can feel my brain cells die a little every time I read it, but I can’t stop! I have finished volume 13 and seeing that I just purchased the rest, will be done with the thing pretty shortly. Btw, [Bad username or site: ”meganbmoore” @ livejournal.com], that scene your friend(s) mentioned. I think I know which one it is. It looks like that’s what’s going to happen, him sleeping with someone else, but he doesn’t and says forget it. Heh. Twu Wuv.

Ahhh, the unbearable angst of being a rock star. Ahhhh, the unbearable angst of being rockstar’s one true love. Who knew. LOL. I got to say that Lucifer has to be the cleanest living band ever, outside of Christian Rock. They don’t stagger home high or drunk. They don’t have orgies. True, Sakuya (our sexy hero) used to be a child whore with a really messed-up back story, but since he seems to have not done it with anyone except Aine, his OTP, since the manga started (though to compensate, there is a lot of THAT :D), I’d mark him under clean living. And Atsuro is dating his stepsister, but come on, after Korean drama, they’d have to be blood related for me to flinch. And Yuki is freaking married with a kid!

I was especially amused by the storyline where some girl is jealous of Aine being Sakuya’s gf (btw, is it a manga cliché that fangirls in Japan are VICIOUS or is it true? Seeing the scary people posting on various forums, I am not sure that’s too much of an exaggeration). Anyway, the jealous girl gets her friends to rough up Aine which drives Sakuya (who is uber protective) up the wall. So what does he do? He takes the girl to his house. She wants sex and he offers but in such an impersonal way, she freaks and doesn’t take him up on the offer. She is like ‘I thought there’d be love’ (girl, you are a groupie, get over yourself) so he is ‘Fine, I love you’ which freaks her more ;) And then he goes out with some other model or something and it’s all over tabloids and the girl is all jealous but he is all ‘whatever’ and then…best part, the girls (in her group) saw her with him (he made sure) and are all like ‘Beotch, you are with him, now we’ll beat you up really badly’ and he is walking by and the girl is ‘Sakuya, help, tell them you love me blah blah’ and he looks at her, without stopping and goes ‘Kid, you wanted to know what it’s like to date me, you got your wish’ and walks on, leaving her to be roughed up. Mmmm…bad boys :D

ETA: OMG OMG OMG! The irresistible manga continues. It’s so trashy yet I cannot fight my love.

Aine gets raped by the evil bad guy who wants to punish Sakuya. OMG. So she won’t tell Sakuya what’s wrong but she can’t bear to see him (or anyone) so she takes sleeping pills to kill herself. You knew things were going to go baaaaad when Sakuya bought an engagement ring :D So Sakuya finds out she is in a coma and finds out why and he gets all EMO falling apart-wise and he quits the band on air, and goes to the hospital and is all ‘blah blah why did I think daring to feel this time would end any different’ and is all ‘I failed to protect you, so sorry’ and being all weepy-waily by her bedside and leaves the ring there and walks off to kill the evil bad guy. AWESOME. And he is like ‘I don’t have my band any more [ok I can’t type that without laughing] and I’ve given up her, so I have nothing now, so I can kill you with a knife, slowly and painfully. I thought having no family and a screwed up past would come in handy.’ OK, I added that last sentence, but not the rest :D And the bad guy is all ‘Instead of acting like a rational person and screaming heeeeeeeeelp when I see this mad-eyed nutter with a sharp knife coming at me, and no one around, let’s remind him I raped the love of his life and also gloat about how he himself is a product of his Mom’s rape and thus has never forgiven himself so here’s a bit of his worst nightmare mark 2.’ Yeah. I don’t think our angsty hero needs to kill him, the guy will die of the stupid by himself.

But he doesn’t die as bad guy gets hauled off by the cops on an unrelated charge and Sakuya’s friends are all like ‘enough about you and the mad temper tantrums with sharp implements. You wanna protect your hot though now messed up gf, go take care of her.’ Heh. They should have added ‘You are too hot to go to jail. We all know what happens to pretty boys there’ So we get some huge angst and what not, and he talks her into taking him back because she is being all ‘no, can’t be with anyone in any fashion, you can’t love me any more, right’ (his response? *beg beg beg*) and takes her to some small town and they get to do fun things together like shop, and have dinner, and slit their wrists.

Yup. Indeedy. She is all (understandably) still messed up so she goes to the bathroom, locks the door and tries to kill herself again at some point, which he sees and goes nuts and is all ‘fine, let’s slit our wrists together’ and slits his own. Good thing he is a singer not a guitarist :D And he is all ‘I don’t want to be without you’ which is sweet and all but the floor is going to be a bitch to clean. So they sorta move on past the wrist-slitting and are forming a future together or something. And the manga does address the issue (I was surprised) that after the assault their sexlife won’t be the same automatically and they’ll have to deal with the trauma. YES.

Gosh, I love this manga even though is has intellectual value of a tomato. So trashy, so awesome.

Btw, is it wrong that every manga I read recently, I picture Yamapi and Maki as the leads? I have no idea what’s with that. I am not an RPShipper (yikes!) and couldn’t care less about them in RL but I have such a thing for seeing them on screen together. Even though I didn’t love Nobuta Wo Produce, I loved their scenes so much. And they made Kurosagi not only of the most intense and emotional UST experiences, but turned it from good to mind-bendingly awesome. Now they need to do an OTP with kissing.

ETA2: OMG Volume 18 is so EXPLICIT. Unbelievably so. Whoa. I’ve never seen something like that in a mainstream manga. Whoa.

And because I was thinking about Kurosagi which is so my second favorite jdrama (only behind Pride), here is a Kurosagi MV.

Oh GOD. Yamapi. *dies* Kurosaki/Tsurara. *dies*

Hmmmmm, you know... has Yamapi EVER kissed any of his co-stars? Has he ever gotten the girl in any of his dramas, for that matter?

I don't think so. But I haven't seen all of his dramas *shocked*

He kissed a co-star in Stand Up. I don't plan to watch the drama but I have seen the scene in question on youtube. It's typical Jdrama kissing - she's a stiff block & he's not much more except his hands won't stay still. He was still a scrawny teen, though, and didn't have the presence he has now. Anything he did now would be 10 times better. I've heard his first kiss was on P.P.O.I. but it was with one of his fellow JE guys.

Guy on guy kissing doesn't interest me :) Actually, het kissing doesn't either unless I am invested in the characters; thus I was all for Kurosagi necking (thwarted!) and couldn't have cared less for their kissing in Nobuta which drama bored me to death...

You realize that if I ever make it to your neck of the woods, half my suitcase will be occupied by my Basara collection...

Her Majesty's Dog is great fun...finished book 6 today. And it IS easy to see Maki and Yamapi as Amane and Hyoue...esp. Yamapi as Hyoue.

Though...your descriptions of Sensual Phrase...they scare me...

I love SP but would never foist it on anyone. It's equal parts silly and irresitable. Re: Basara. LOL. Do come and visit :D

Well, like I've said, NEVER have I been warned off a manga as strongly as I was SP back when most of my manga buying was based on recs...I mean, one or two people warn me, I'll weigh the warnings(and what kind they were) against interest level, but I think the only thing I've ever been warned away from as strongly was Laurell K Hamilton.

I actually have a LOT of internet friends in your general area *the size of Texas being her idea of a general area*(if I'm right in thinking you live in the DC area) It's just GETTING there...

I picked up HMD on a whim(much like Night of the Beasts...which I just found out is now on volume 3 and volume 2 NEVER came out her so now I have to special order...) and loved it.

Heh...I think I'll be fed the entire time I'm there, even if it's for several weeks.

How do you not love Hyoue? And I adore Amane's cluelessness.

You say monogamous like you can't think of any other good qualities...(but yeah, I know you probably mentioned that due to the LKH comment...)

There is much awesome manga out there(one other you might like is black cat, which is only 7.95 a pop)

I wish they all followed Viz's pricing structure...make affording them(and being able to check out new series) a lot easier. I think I get between 20-30 manga most months...never lss than 15 I don't think.

Here we go:

I generally think of you when it comes up because you like Vash and Kenshin. Train is a similar kind of character, except he doesn't spend all his time punishing himself for the past simply because the one who influenced him so much wouldn't have put up with it, so he's more concerned about the present and deals with the past when it comes up. I also love his OTP, Rinslet, a con artist/thief who rarely needs rescueing or protecting so much as she needs backup.

omg, laurell k hamilton

From: [identity profile] calledinvain.livejournal.com
she's just....*shudder* CRAZY. Crazy like Anne Rice taking on the internets (and Amazon.com reviewers!) crazy. I think in her case, she fell in love with her characters too much and now instead of plot, you get porn (and badly written at that) and no one worthwhile ever dies, because she can't bear to part with them, and reading this lady's thoughts on her writing process makes me want to chew my arms off, basically.

Yeah, LKH is...odd. Kim Harrison, sadly, seems to be starting to lean in her direction now that she's coming out in hardcover(a lot of LKH fans just switched authors, so there've been a lot of comparisons, and even though the character stayed monogamous in the first book, i think the writing is on the wall...)

Okay, you know very well about my Kurosaki/Tsurara...fascination (fascination sounds a whole lot better than "unhealthy obsession" -- why do think I write so much fic?! They are an OTP MEANT for fic, I tell you! And re: RPF, I'm actually thinking about shoving Yamapi and Maki together in my totally cracktastic version of Ocean's 11, but, er, that is another issue entirely), and I agree with every single word you wrote. I think Yamapi could make chemistry happen with inanimate objects, but he and Maki have a remarkable on-screen chemistry that accomplishes 80% of the battle involved establishing a believable romantic situation in any drama. I hope Yamapi gets the girl in his new drama.

And god, there needs to be more Kurosaki/Tsurara fic.

Date: 2007-04-11 03:14 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] dangermousie.livejournal.com
Do you know, even though I never read RPF, if you write that Yamapi/Maki fic, I'll totally read it.

There needs to be more Kurosagi fic, agreed, but the drama is so darn good, it must be hard. Your fic for it is amazing and I am super impressed because I can't write for it at all...

Date: 2007-04-11 03:36 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] kitsune714.livejournal.com
My "Yamapi's 11" project is a ridiculous JE crackfic that has spiraled out of control, but in a good way. ;)

Writing Kurosagi fic is fun, because these characters are meant for fic, what with all that is said and unsaid, and all those LONGING STARES (fic is my way of fixing what was wrong with canon -- NOT ENOUGH KISSING), but I am in desperate need for new reading material. Really, if you find any other Kurosaki/Tsurara fic, ANY AT ALL (I'm at the point where I'd read ANYTHING for this pairing, no matter the quality), send it my way!

Date: 2007-04-11 04:49 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] dangermousie.livejournal.com
I am going to look for fic. Agreed, they BEG to be ficced but there is such a dearth of drama fic in general (other than the badly spelled RPF).
From: [identity profile] calledinvain.livejournal.com
well, at least the mangas I've been reading anyway. Not so much the 80's manga, where everyone looked like really skinny Eurotrash Grecian statues. Because of your crack!fic, I recently rewatched Ocean's 11 - I somehow remember the movie being funnier than it actually was, but anyway - if you're going where I think you're going with the Maki angle...there needs to be some more screwball comedy going on there, because Julia Roberts and George Clooney had all the charisma and chemistry of a wet paperbag. I think it was trading on the marquee name factor of them together - but I didn't think it worked with Julia and Brad Pitt in the Mexican, and it didn't work in Ocean's 11. Julia was too flinty, I think. I liked her better in the sequel, but it was only because it was SO ABSURD AND META.

From: [identity profile] kitsune714.livejournal.com
I enjoy the Ocean's films because of how breezy they are. There aren't any really true caper movies anymore, and the Soderbergh adaptations of this Rat Pack movie fill that void for me. The inside jokes, the banter -- the fact that the humor is so dependent on dialogue and quirky characterizations and understanding of events that are meant to only occur on in your imagination...I love it all. It wasn't so much that I found the movie very funny, it was more a movie that I found amusing. I never really thought much of Julia Roberts as Tess Ocean; I feel like they could've had any actress in the role. The characters of Danny and Tess, though, are another story, because I quite like the way they interact. The dialogue is quick and sharp and hints at a rather interesting history, which is why I enjoy watching that scene of them in the Bellagio restaurant so much. Ocean's 12 was quite good, in that the inside jokes and the meta-within-a-movie totally ramped up the humor ("Protect your fake baby!").

Please tell me you're one of those nice customers who when they sit in a bookstore, sit somewhere discreetly and don't block the aisles thus causing fire hazards, inaccessible paths for our wheelchair bound customers, and also prevent us from doing our job (ie, shelving?)

It's a *cough* minor peeve of mine, and a hazard from the job - I realize I can't stop people from reading things in the aisle, and with manga, it's better to have a general idea of what it's about then buying things blindly, because you can't return manga, and volume after volume - it gets expensive really quickly, but sometimes, oh, the Stupid Manga Kids and I get into a really passive aggressive Battle Royale.

But yes, I love Her Majesty's Dog to pieces, and I'm looking forward to your post about it. I wish the translations would come out sooner, but that's what I always say about the manga I love. Hmmm, or I should just finally buckle up and learn Japanese, like I've been meaning to. It'd be cheaper - the manga in original format usually runs to about 5 dollars a volume.

I d/led the first volumes of Sensual Phrase and got to where the hero returns from the US and kicks his half-brother's ass. I couldn't read more ... I just couldn't. my eyes started to bleed and my brain began to go mush :)
Glad you enjoy it though :)

Sensual Phrase sounds really awesome in a trashy sort of way. I loved the first book! Must. Get. More!

I also got the first two books of Her Majesty's Dog in the same batch, but haven't read them yet.

Heh, while reading Wallflower yesterday, I was fantasy casting it at the same time. I can see Lee Jun Ki as Ranmaru, and I totally picture Takki as Kyohei (different countries, but what the heck - it's fantasy casting anyway). Since Sunako is so Nobuta-ish, Horikita Maki could play her. I haven't yet decided on the other two, though I could throw Yamapi in as Takenaga. Even though it's only fantasy casting, my brain is starting to melt from the thought of all of them together in a drama...

Date: 2007-04-11 01:19 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] dangermousie.livejournal.com
It only gets better and trashier as it goes on.

And I like your phantasy casting A LOT. The only thing is, I cannot see Yamapi and Maki in a drama without wanting to ship them so I have a feeling i'd turn into a Takenaga/Sunako shipper :P

Date: 2007-04-11 01:49 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] vierran45.livejournal.com
I would ship them too, which is why I wasn't sure whether to put him in that role or not. I could always cast somebody else :). Hmm, Figaro Ceng (plays Mike He's little brother in DBY) as Takenaga. Let's make it a truly international cast :D. I'm having a hard time deciding who could be Yuki.

Date: 2007-04-12 02:48 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] dangermousie.livejournal.com
Oh, his little bro was ugly. No way :) But how about Mike He himself? He's dishy :)

Yuki: should totally be Kame. Who is pretty and very girly looking :)

From: [identity profile] vierran45.livejournal.com
I like your suggestions :). Now we have the following cast:

Sunako - Horikita Maki
Kyohei - Takizawa Hideaki
Ranmaru - Lee Jun Ki
Takenaga - Mike He
Yuki - Kamenashi Kazuya

I think my brain would explode from all the hotness if all these were ever on the screen at the same time, but I like picturing the manga in my mind with this cast.
