Bones: does this show have a plot? Does this show need a plot?

Still hideously Buffy-deprived (Filmi Girl and I are watching more tomorrow. If not, I give in and will watch by myself :P), I decided to check out a couple of eps of Bones I had on my hard-drive.

It's not really anything I'd watch devotedly as I am not big into procedurals, but as an occasional thing, it's not bad. More importantly, it's a pretty painless way to spend the evening: watching hot burly men and hot pretty women reenact fanfic scenarios in between boring procedural talk. I think some former fanfic writers write some of these scripts as the two eps I've watched had (a) the leading pair have to go undercover and dress-up as a couple for nebulous reasons. Heeee; and (b) heroine gets buried alive and hero has to find her and dig her out.

I approve.

Conclusion: Procedural plots are totally silly and by the numbers but my brain is overruled by hotness and fanficness of it all. Ultimately, it's a big squee of approval from my id.

Bones is totally one of my "turn off brain, enjoy pretty" shows. And for some reason I always seem to end up eating while watching it... and then being kinda grossed out.

There is so much more ANGST and DRAMA yet to come between Booth and Bones relating to her family. You are so dead right about it being a procedural interspersed with fanfic. I LOVE IT.

My husband and I watched the last few eps of S3, and since then we've been watching repeats on FOX and TNT. So everything's been wildly out of order, but who cares?

I don't care for procedurals as a rule, but canon that reads as fanfic? That I like.

I love this show and it's OTP almost as much as Burn Notice's. Boreanaz, who is the alpha male of alpha males, just works for me in this role. The show is just one big fanfic in the guise of something normal. No one I know watches the show for the plot, just Bones and Booth. I sort of love Booth because he's so stereotypically aggressive alpha while also being really sweet to Bones and letting her take the lead where she's better.

This? So. Alpha. Blood everywhere? Check. Aggressively possessive body language? Check. He might as well have a club and not use any articles in his sentences.

I normally hate that in a character, but Boreanaz works it so well.

I also sort of love that she bet on him. What other U.S. show so blatantly writes in their white knight?

Smitha, have you seen the S4 promos? "Brennan/Booth on ____"? Look 'em up on youtube. jhana87 convinced me that Hart Hanson knows he fucked up some of S3 and the finale, and fans disliked it, so I'm hoping it'll go in the right direction again.. Oh and the promos looked cute. :)

That's what it's all about, really. The OTP in various awesome situations, being mistaken for a couple, getting jealous over one another, saving each other. Just good fanfic-y stuff, indeed.

Bones is one of my favorite light evening watching/tv choices. It grew on me slowly at first, then with a bang. It's really quite lovely. :D

I just replaced my Bones icon :( but let's go with Roswell. Second best.
