I just saw this newest poster for King 2 Hearts over at dramabeans and I believe I have just fainted from the romantic hotness:

It's like Goong, if Chae Gyung was a North Korean agent, i.e., my perfect drama. I've seen people disappointed that this isn't a romcom (if the poster and trailer are anything to go by), but I am ecstatic - you know me and my intense and angsty dramas, plus I am going to have Rooftop Prince for giggles and two romcoms about royals falling for unsuitable ladies would be overkill.

I NEED THIS IN MY LIFE!

The fact that it has been postponed for a week, gives me a desire to just invent a time machine where it's already week after next.

Also, when did Lee Seung Gi go from 'cute boy next door' to smoking hot?

I am not sure if the below poster for The Strongest K-POP Survival is official or fanmade, but I love it anyway, so have it.

Though is it just me, or does it look like they are all about to enter the Colosseum for some Hunger Games-type fight to the death? (The drama's title is not helping).

Btw, it's airing less than two weeks from now, so it's weird there is no teaser out yet. But then Channel A doesn't really have its act together yet, IMO.

1. I have no idea if this poster for Emperor's Beauties is official or fanmade (my money is on the latter), but I love it:

Larger version and another poster here )

I always prefer more abstract posters to the typical "let's stick leads' discombobulated heads on the poster" thing a lot of dramas adore.

And speaking of EB - what on earth is with the title. I know YZ is trying to reference Schemes of a Beauty (why not call it 'Beauties of Emperor's Jade Palace' then and do a two-fer with his recent hits :P) but the title makes no sense. I severely doubt he's referring to Xiang Yu and Liu Bang as anyone's beauties :P and Xiang Yu was never an emperor so anyone associated with him would not be an emperor's beauty of any sort. Sure, Lu Zhi was Mrs. Emperor but (a) that's beauty in singular and (b) even if some other wife of Liu Bang appears, the drama's focus isn't on various wives of Liu Bang but the whole Xiang Yu-Liu Bang alliance and then civil war, presumably. Even if Yu Zheng will make Xiang Yu have a torch for Lu Zhi *shudder*, that still doesn't change the fact.

So yeah, the title makes zip sense to me.

ETA: according to kind anon, focus will be on the ladies. Which still doesn't explain the title bu, more importantly, bzuh? Not surprising, seeing what YZ's interests are in storytelling but still - it's like doing a story n Charlemagne and focusing on family in-fighting, or similar. I don't really care who Lu Zhi's true love is or about palace backstabbing. I want battles and more battles and then topped off with more battles. Give it to whoever made Three Kingdoms.

Also, I finally figured out why I am so pre-obsessed with EB. It's because Xiang Yu/Concubine Yu is the closest I am going to get to Bajirao Mastani on screen. It was going to be Sanjay Leela Bhansali magnum opus but eventually got shelved for whatever reasons. I followed it for years until its untimely demise and was devastated when it was cancelled. (For non-Bollywood aficionados, Bajirao was a warrior king of the Marathis, I believe, and Mastani was his dancer gf who rode with him into battle and killed herself when he died). So yeah, I am projecting. Though perhaps this version of XY will only have eyes for Lu Zhi (???!!!!), so it might no matter.

2. I looked up future projects, and he has a movie and at least 3 dramas lined up. How on earth is he going to cram them all in? I know script-writing goes faster when you liberally borrow from others but even copy/pasting dialogue takes time :P

3. Speaking of YZ dramas, has anyone seen 1000 Teardrops? I am tempted to get my hands on it because I have yet to see a YZ drama I didn't like (between Romantic Red Rouge, Jade Palace Lock Heart, Schemes of a Beauty and Four Women Conflict) but I am not familiar with Hawick Lau or Athena Chu, i.e. the leads (yes, I admit I am also tempted because Feng Shao Feng is in it, but I know he has a secondary role. Which leads me to a question of whether he gets his own OTP, btw) and also it's a modern drama and all of YZ's stuff that I liked have been period dramas.

4. OK, to end on a non-Yu Zheng note. Drive of Life - yay or nay?

The poster for Athena: Goddess of War is out and it is, perhaps unsurprisingly, strikingly similar to that of its predecessor IRIS.

Compare IRIS:

And Athena (courtesy of [livejournal.com profile] ockoala):

The same font, the same color scheme, the same composition, the same amount of people in the poster, the same vibe. Tortured Spy is front and center in both (of course) and we also have ladylike-yet-steely-and-kickass love interest to his right, plus Evil Nemesis, Kickass Female Ally, Hot Young Thing for Teenyboppers, and Experienced Character Actor Playing Ambiguous in both.

I am not big on copycat posters in general, but since Athena is an AU continuation of IRIS, I actually love the synchronicity. I am also glad to see the trailer and poster look intense. The previous stuff gave it more of a lightish Bond-type vibe and while there is nothing wrong with it, the reason I loved IRIS so (it's in my Top 5 kdramas of all time) was its teeth-gritting, tortured intensity. I am glad to see Athena isn't dispensing with it after all.

Hmmm, to compare the leading people, just for kicks:

Hero: Lee Byung Hun was what made IRIS for me. He's also my favorite Korean actor, so he wins this round. But this was a tough ne because Jung Woo Sung is frelling amazing and as Daisy and Musa demonstrate cane bring intense and tortured in spades. So winner is LBH for now. Who know how I will feel once the drama gets going.

Heroine: Kim Tae Hee hands down. I think she's gorgeous, I love her always playing tough/smart, I love her vibe and I think she's a decent actress. Su Ae, OTOH - I've seen her in two very different dramas (Emperor of the Sea and 9 End 2 Out) and she faded into woodwork into both of them. Not a fan. This said, I love her look in Athena and the vibe she has in the trailer, so hopefully she'll convert me.

Sexy Nemesis: Sorry, Jung Joon Ho, I will always love you as the feckless movie star in Last Scandal, but I am going to pick Cha Seung Won over you. He can do menacing and dark and sexy like nobody's business but your character sort of faded into woodwork in IRIS.

Tough Ally Lady: Draw. Kim So Yeon was unbelievable in IRIS but Lee Ji Ah portrayed my ultimate favorite female character in Legend where she was tough and funny and awesome and and and...

Hot Young Thing for Teenyboppers: Choi Siwon, duh. He can actually act. Sorry, TOP fangirls, I don't know if your boy can act, but he certainly didn't have to in IRIS.

Also, is it too early for the death poll? My predictions:

Lee Ji Ah: chance of death - 40% - Female tough ally doesn't get killed because, sadly, it won' torture the hero enough.

Jung Woo Sung: Chance of death - 60% - Hello, resident tortured agent here! The only reason it's not higher is because we've all seen IRIS and would they want to do the same ending twice?

Su Ae - chance of death - 75% - You know what would torture hero enough? If his one true love bought it at the end. I am putting Su Ae's odds pretty high because if Athena ends happily I'll eat my socks and since the female part of the OTP survived in IRIS, she is the more likely one to go in Athena.

Choi Siwon - chance of death - 80% - Eye candy is dispensable.

Cha Seung Won - chance of death - 95% - he's the bad guy. Good guys may perish but bad guys definitely will. The only reason he isn't getting a clean 100% is because of Athena's predecessor's grim nihilistic view - the real bad guys in that one escaped punishment and plan to strike again.

But enough about my blathering, how about you get to vote?
