If you ever wonder why I like some dramas and not others, or whether a particular one will appeal to me or slide straight off my radar, I think my preferences, tastes, and reactions can be summed up by this:

( Full size )
I was convinced to watch Lovers (it since became one of my favorites, years ago) solely by this picture. It basically sums up, in a nutshell, everything I watch dramas for.

This is yet another in my series of "Dangermousie ranks all the kdramas she has ever seen" posts. (I have seen over 70 kdramas and, being addicted to ranking, have decided to rank them all). For previous posts go here. Below the cut are dramas ranked 42-30: these range from dramas I like a lot to dramas I love. All of them have flaws that keep them from higher rankings but all of them are dramas I would have no hesitation in recommending. Once again, I have either finished these dramas entirely or finished enough to make up my own mind.
( Best friends, warrior princesses, single mothers, and nuns: if you do not like their stories, the heroines of these dramas will cut off your heads and then pray over the bodies )
Until next time :)

I have decided that it was about time for me to update and expand my favorite kdrama primer yet again (which I first did some months ago). Not only were there a bunch of kdramas I wanted to add to the list, but I wanted to rearrange the order of some of the dramas on the list already (except for the first three or so, the placement of the other ones within the rankings is fluid and moves based on my mood) and very much expand it.
So behind the cut are 25 of my favorite kdramas, with summaries, reasons why, pics and vids. I have tried to keep it as unspoilery as possible.
No kdrama I have not finished is on the list because I want to have seen the complete drama before evaluating the fave status. Also, I watch a lot of dramas, but I have hardly seen all or most kdrama out there, and there are some very famous ones I have never seen. I am always open to recs and am always looking for said recs.
Now, without too much further verbosity, Dangermousie's 25 favorite kdramas list, new and improved.

It's one of those rare dramas that follows entirely grown-up people: both Lee Seo Jin's mobster going legit and Kim Jung Eun's plastic surgeon are people in their thirties who've been around the block a few times. Which it makes it both all the sweeter when they rediscover love, and more awesome because the tiresome misunderstandings are absent. And the chemistry is through the roof (giving hope to RPFers everywhere, Lee Seo Jin and Kim Jung Eun did, in fact, hook up during filming and have been together ever since).
I realized I never metaed the last four eps. Must do so but will have to rewatch them in order to do so. Ah, the pain :)
However, meta and rewatch will have to wait till tomorrow. For now here is a cool mv:
( As a bonus, here is a clip from the show KJE hosted onto which LSJ came on as a guest :P )

I think I have decided to watch Ne rodis krasivoy ('Don't be born beautiful'), a Russian version of the same telenovela 'Ugly Betty' is based on (did I mention that we saw posters for UB all over Buenos Aires with the slogan 'in English, it is more ugly.' :P)
Best friend got hooked on it, and we usually have very similar tastes. Plus, she sold me by saying this serial has a version of my very favorite scene ever. You know that scene where I went all flaily/incoherent in Delightful Girl Chun-Hyang, where Mong-Ryong thought Chun-Hyang didn't love him and was all in despair, but found her diary and realized she loves him and she rejected him for his sake, and went to find her? NRK has this too!!!!!
Here is a MV. EEEEEEEE! Looks so neat. And the male lead wears glasses which is just...guys in glasses are HOT. When they are kissing and both are in glasses? SQUEEEEE! I like the way she looks. And I think he is totally hot, in a rumpled intellectual kinda way. (Also, what is with all the recent hot Russian actors? What happened? When I was living in the USSR, there weren't that many and now they seem to be proliferating). I have my next crush.
( A few more vids )
In other news, I am almost done with Lovers. Three eps left. God, they finally got together and they are so compatible, so alive together, so perfect. When they spent the whole night sitting together on the floor of their hotel room. Or when she is cold on a mountain and he gives her his coat and is all 'it's weird you look so good in men's clothes' and she plays hwith his wallet. OMG. And then they both give to their exes everything they ever gave them back. Which on her part includes the cell-phone and LSJ freaks out something is wrong with her because she isn't picking up the phone, and runs over there and finds out why. And EEEEEE! His quiet delight she did that and her quiet delight he was worried.
I adore them so much.
