I have been in a bit of a bad mood since morning for various reasons, but this never fails to cheer me up:

Oh Shin and Chae-Gyung, why do you make me feel so good? They must have mixed some sort of a drug additive into the film.

I have decided that it was about time for me to update and expand my favorite kdrama primer (which I first did some month ago). Not only were there a bunch of kdramas I wanted to add to the list, but I wanted to rearrange the order of some of the dramas on the list already (except for the first three or so, the placement of the other ones within the rankings is fluid and moves based on my mood) and very much expand it.

So behind the cut are 20 (actually 21, because of a tie) of my favorite kdramas, with summaries, reasons why, pics and vids. I have tried to keep it as unspoilery as possible.

No kdrama I have not finished is on the list because I want to have seen the complete drama before evaluating the fave status (possible future candidates to be put in that aren't there because of it are Mawang and MISA). Also, I watch a lot of dramas, but I have hardly seen all or most kdrama out there, and there are some very famous ones I have never seen. I am always open to recs and am always looking for said recs.

The 'wedding night' scenes in eps 13-14 of Goong are not my favorite scene in the drama (that honor belongs to the kiss/confession in ep 23) but it is a close second. And it is certainly the funniest scene in the drama. I laughed so hard I got hiccups.

Basically, a scenario straight out of fanfic: our OTP is locked in a room together by the 'adults' who want them to consummate the marriage and produce an heir, thus silencing rumors of marital discord. Some of the ideas of the pushers are quite 'inventive' (i.e. turning off the heat, providing one tiny heated bed so they'd have to huddle for warmth. I blame Queen Dowager. I bet she reads fanfic on-line) and some markedly less so (if they think dressing Chae-Gyung in an elaborate gilt dress and scary traditional wig would make her look sexy, they are deluded) but the resulting scenes, with increasingly-desperate to get out Shin and Chae-Gyung forced to share a room all night, is priceless.

Also, I have to commend Shin's self control. He is a teenage boy locked in a room and bed with a girl he likes, who is in her jammies (but utterly clueless), and he knows that the Royals basically want them to go at it. The fact that he only kissed her is quite impressive. I love how he gets more and more desperate to get away though :P

I have fallen for The Devil. No, I haven't joined the Church of Satan. I have just started watching and gotten addicted to last year's kdrama about revenge.

Seriously, I literally meant to check out just the first few minutes, to see if the colors were as crisp and interesting in the vid I saw, and the next thing I knew, it was half-an-hour later and I had to run.

It is so so so so good.

And for once, I have no idea where the plot is going to go at all, and what is going on.

My favorite character, so far, is Uhm Tae Woong's policeman. He is so enthusiastic and cool and adorably funny, sort of like a big friendly puppy you just want to keep. Except I am pretty sure he has had some involvement in the past with that stabbing that the child version of Psychic Librarian saw all those years ago, so, hmmmm...

If UTW is my favorite, Joo Ji Hoon's lawyer is the most interesting. It's funny because I am simultaneously rewatching Goong, and there he is adorable. But here, while he wears sharp suits, is good-looking, and has a good haircut, he really freaks me out. He does! I would not want to meet him in a dark alley and I want to take a step back instinctively. I think it's his eyes. They are utterly devoid of feeling, flat like those of a dead person. He comes across as a sleepwalker, almost; or a trauma case, still in shock; or someone who has mastered the art of passing as human and making human gestures, like smiles/greetings/etc but without any underlying human meaning. The funny thing is, I was looking at various youtube videos of The Devil, and while his eyes are normally like that, they actually come alive when he is with Psychic Librarian, later on. With her around he looks like a real person. Hmmmm.

As to Psychic Librarian? She is awesome and I love her. The end :)
