dangermousie: (MISA by village)

First off, in an attempt to get more of my flisties to check out Sorry I love you (aka MISA), I bring you these awesome MVs of it.

MISA is totally one of my favorite dramas now, and the whole story is about a young thug who has a limited time left to live and comes to Korea in search of his birth mother, only to discover he was 'thrown away' by a rich woman, and decides to wreak revenge on her and her family, but finds himself totally derailed by slowly falling in love with a girl who is good but quirky, odd but sweet. So he learns not just to let go of vengeance but how to be a good human being, actually...But of course it all has a fairly quick expiration date...

How could you not love a plot like that? MISA is apparenly a huge thing drama-wise and rightly so, IMO. But, a word of warning: it is one of the saddest kdramas I have ever seen (but OTOH I think if you have seen/liked Tree of Heaven, A Love to Kill, Bali, Damo or Snow Queen, MISA isn't any more depressing. And I think Taiwanese drama Silence is still champion for the angstiest. It's the only drama I was never able to finish because of angst).

Anyway, please watch. I want to talk about it! WTF is So Ji Sub doing not being in a drama since then????? He got out of the army ages ago. *curses the perpetually delaying TPTB of Cain and Abel*

In other news, I finished Lobbyist!!!! Happy ending!!!! EEEEEEE! EEEEE!!!! I also loved that Maria went back to her good-hearted self. And the end with her being a teacher and Harry being there. I died. But that last phone call made me sniffle like mad ('You are my present, Harry.') And I love that she was the one to save him and sacrifice her liberty to get him away. He saved her so many times, it was only fair. I ffed through all the business/weapons/lobbying, I confess, but still overall I'd totally rec the drama (with judicious ffing if politics stuff isn't your thing). Song Il Gook is beyond gorgeous and a great actor, the story is complex and unusual, and the gender reversal of roles fascinating.

Yay Lobbyist! Then ending scene was gorgeous, right, though Maria's shoes + white socks was a bit "errrrrrrr" for me :D But yeah. The smile on their faces. Yay. And yes, the phone call in the car. Eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee! One of my fave scenes ever. And I love, love, love how Harry immediately KNEW she was going to do something crazy, and he rushed over to the hospital, and then tracked her down! Eeeeeeeeeeee! ^o^

Re: MISA. I need to pick it up again. I dropped it somewhere in the middle.

I guess the shoes + socks were teacherly? :) But I didn't care if she were a burlap sack, I was just so happy for the happy ending! And the phone call: so amazing. And I love her telling him 'I love you.' EEEEEEE!

MISA is awesome but aaaaaangsty.

So you have finished Misa? How did you feel about the mother by the end? Do you still hate her?

I sobbed like mad when SJS is eating the ramen his mother cooked for him. So much angst. Guh.

Also, I think the writer of Misa (who is writer of a love to kill, sangdoo let's go to school) is doing another drama soon. but I forgot what? Do you know?

My thoughts about the drama are sort of (rather incoherently) encapsulated here:

So yes, I still hated her. My hatred of her was never based on her 'abandoning' SHS, because I was spoiled and knew the whole 'twins taken away' story. I just thought she was a horrifically selfish and shallow woman, who only had room in her heart to care for Yoon: the way she treated the lady in the noodle shop, the way she searched the handicapped sister for the ring, the way she was willing to run over (metaphorically) the whole family of Eun Chae to get Yoon out of a scandal, the way she went over to SJS' house to be 'kind' because she wanted to manipulated him to give up his heart etc etc. UGH. Ok, just thinking about it makes me rabid.

I am still ajdhfhgfhfhghg that she never found out he was her son. I mean!!!! I don't want her to live in happiness for the rest of her life.

Oh, the ramen scene...yikes. I confess by the end of this drama my face was totally blotchy. I think for some reason the bit that killed me the most was when EC just held him in bed :( Don't know why...

*bawl*

The writers is set to do a drama with Rain and Gianna Jun, Four Seasons, where he is a mercenary who falls for a journalist. It's been postponed to accomodate the leads' crazy schedules, but I hope will go forward because I really liked Sang-Do and loved loved loved ALTK and MISA. One thing I know...this is going to be bloody cheerful! Not.
