Iljimae: episode 3 meta and picspam

Last night, I finished episode 3 of Iljimae.

It could be summed up thusly: "A lot of really really bad things happen to Lee Jun Ki (what else is new), and we are introduced to smouldering hotness of Park Shi Hoo whose character is also named Shi Hoo, thus making it easy on the actor. Oh, and some plot happens too, but do we care?"



When we left off. Evil Jr, clearly jealous of Ryung's superior looks and better angsting ability, has decided to get rid of poor little upstart once and for all:



By dumping him into a pit.







Not very heroic but very scared. Probably because he is thinking 'this is ep 3 out of 20 ep drama. What other horrors would they inflict on me next.'



Being resourceful, he finally manages to climb out:



Only to be hit on the head and taken to a middle of frozen lake by contract killer who wants to get rid of him because he might be Geom and not Ryung (he is, but he doesn't remember). This would officially win the title of 'worst day ever' except I am sure he will have suckier days.







Clawing his way out. You know, writers, I know you have to work really hard to make your Korean Robin Hood have a worse background than Hong Gil Dong. It's hard to beat being a slave offspring of an awful father and a mother who was beaten to death for trying to run away with you, not to mention being denied any education. But ease up a bit, k? We don't want Jun Ki to get hypothermia. Think of the fangirls!

Grown-up Eun Chae is adorable and a do-gooder:



I capped the snow scene before, but suffice it to say that poor angsty Shi Ho is very protective of his fake-but-he-doesn't-know-it sister. And possibly forbiddenly in love with her as well as she was the only nice thing in his horrible life. Helpless adoration? WINS.



Ryung's fake!father is worried because his kid hadn't come home and corners Evil Jr., who is as weak as he is evil and is easily intimidated. Fake!Daddy is awesome and seems to make a habit of raising other men's kids. Just as well as fake!Mom is horrible and seems to loathe the sight of Ryung. Poor Ryung. I agree with filmi_girl that his happy-go-lucky act is exactly that, an act: his mom loathes the sight of him, he gets tortured in school every day but can't tell his Dad who has scrimped to send him there etc etc. It's his coping mechanism. As we saw in ep 2, he just represses as a means of coping. Anyway, Shi Ho rescues Evil Jr. and sees his own fake!Daddy (who is now Ryung's fake!Daddy) and it's awesome and emo:

In mysterious Dude's house. I could recount the plot at that point, but I'd rather showcase LJK's facial expressions.

"Maybe I can still Shi Ho's? He is a secondary guy, I am the lead! How come he gets a hat with a buckle!"

I love it when he asks his friends to lie and says he's been in the casino all day, because he doesn't want his Dad to know the truth and worry. Awww.

I love Swindler Girl. Something tells me she and Yi Nok from Hong Gil Dong would have gotten along just fine, in the intervals of trying to out-swindle each other.

Swindler Girl's fake!Daddy is awesome! (OK, three out of four main characters have fake!Daddys. Eun Chae doesn't have a fake!Daddy but Shi Ho makes up for it by having two (!!!!). That's four fake!Daddys. LOL, were they having a sale that day?)

Grumpy mother is very annoying:





Ryung's fake!Daddy gets arrested for manhandling Evil Jr. They are going to cut off his arms.

Ryung goes to grovel for his Dad's life and is all 'punish me' and starts hitting himself (realizing we had entire 15 minutes without anyone beating on him and he has a quota to meet) and Evil Jr. is all 'bring me money'. Ryung gives him all he has but it's obviously nothing. So Evil jr. is all 'I'll take you where you can get a loan.'









I love you, Swindler Girl!



OMG! Shi Ho is burning mad about Evil Jr.'s charges against fake!Daddy and Evil Jr. is all 'keep on doing it, and I'll have him beheaded."

















I hate Evil Jr. with a burning, burning hate and yet am appreciative of his fine contribution in making both the hot guys in the drama ANGST.







Love his tortured soul (and hot bod), Eun Chae! Come on! That way Ryung can hook up with Swindler Girl and everything works out.

The loan place turns out to be a brawling arena. Evil Jr. enters poor Ryung as a fighter and gets paid for it, because nobody wants to go against mysterious fighter who's been beating everyone to a pulp and owner is desperate. Evil Jr. is all 'it's OK even if he gets killed, so sign him up.' And tells Ryung he will let fake!Daddy off if Ryung wins and brings back the prize of 200 coins. He is AWFUL. I hope the Hot Half-Brothers Ryung and Shi Ho team up and off him, at some point.

Poor Lee Jun Ki I think he comes up with all the torture things so that no one can mistake him as a girl. he is just far too pretty and I can understand why HE thought about getting surgery done to his face to de-prettify himself. Good thing he didn't have the money at that time when he entered the acting business.
It's not so bad when he has short hair, but long ... OMG!!!

P.S. btw, did he take lessons from Yoon Eun Hye? He sometimes looks like her. :)

Haven't seen Iljimae beyond ep.1 but all this talk about Shi Hoo is making me like Secondary Guy very much.
