Ahem.

*chokes a little*
The publicist for Lobbyist either deserves a firing or a raise. I have not decided which.
In other news, any drama which has the grown-up OTP meet when he is hired to kill her?
WINS AT (drama) LIFE.
So yes, ep 3 is very excellent.
Poor little Harry is having nightmares about his abuse.
Yikes. I was kinda affectionately mocking the wangst earlier, but I can't really mock child abuse. Especially when they take him to a school counsellor and he is very quick to deny any hint of mistreatment with a little dead stare. Yikes. Also, his little sister's drawing expresses her trauma (giant violent figure shaking a child) and this is a little too realistic, m'kay? It makes me kinda ill.
So the school counsellor pressures him to tell her if they are being abused, for his sister's sake and the poor kid finally musters the courage, and the social workers come to the house and it's sort of painful to see Harry hope and try to reassure his sister that they will be taken elsewhere where they won't be beaten. But social workers leave, charmed by their Uncle, and the look on Harry's face as he sees that (he is only a kid after all) and knows that there is no escape and he is going to pay...and next thing we see is his aunt putting salve on the cuts on his back and he has a huge black eye. And he can't sleep and later comes across the Uncle trying to molest his sister.
OK, drama. Seriously. I am feeling a bit ill. I signed up for a bit of guns and hot people...stop making me care, dammit!
No wonder Harry has a gun fetish...after yet another abuse episode, he finds his Uncle's gun and finally he has some power. And the Ubcle is all 'shoot' and...Harry does. He is what? 11!
And he takes his sister and goes on the run...
Oh boy.
I take this back. This is actually genuinely good.
And now flashforward, a bit over a decade later and Maria is a cheery tour operator/bus driver and the dramas do the so beloved 'they pass by each other not knowing' thing.
OMG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Song Il Gook (grown-up Harry) is SO HOT.
*am now incoherent*
Maria's English is really good. YAY! And she is chirpy, fearless and a go-getter. I love her.
Harry's English is good too! I mean, they both have accents but they are totally understandable.
LOVE.
Did I mention the HOT?????????
SO HOT.
SO HOOOOOOOOOOT.
Also, he is a compulsive gambler...gambling because he owes money to the mob because he borrowed $$$ to get his little sis to college?
OK, OK, when I said I wanted a little h/c, I meant a little. Sheesh. The mobsters work him over twice in this ep. It's uncomfortable to watch actually because it's not prettified-glamorized pain, just pain. Generally, a request...give the woobie some joy, please.
Anyway, mob guy wants to get rid of Maria (long story) and tells Harry he will forgive the interest on his debt and also he has his sister as hostage, so go to work please. OMG. (The earlier scene with him nerving himself to shoot the mobster instead and failing was awesome btw).
Shallowness aside, Song Il Gook is good, you guys. I mean, really really good. You can totally feel his fear and rage and attempts at determination and complete desperation. I've forgotten how amazing he was in Jumong but this is certainly reminding me.

Date: 2008-06-06 08:26 am (UTC)I think I blocked the child abuse bit out but now you reminded why I stopped watching this (apart from "This is in AMERICA"), Too much of bad stereotypes.
But keep with your posts. :D I might be persuaded to start again. :D

Date: 2008-06-06 01:20 pm (UTC)Re: stereotypes. I don't know it didn't strike me as stereotyped (or more so than usual) and not really about American stereotypes: basically, they are treating US in a lot of ways as if the story was set in Korea: there are certainly plenty of abusive parental figures, mobsters etc in dramas that are set in Korea, so they just have them in whatever environment the story is set.

Date: 2008-06-06 02:01 pm (UTC)That was one thing that crossed my mind. There'll be some sensitive political issues raised later on in the eps, too. I was thinking "how would Americans react when they see this?" ^o^

Date: 2008-06-06 02:17 pm (UTC)Heeee... I think I find Bollywood cracktastic enough as it is, without the US references. Some actors and/or acting I find totally hilarious. Doesn't necessarily mean it as a bad thing, though.

Btw. Mob guy (bastard!!!) is the one with really good (as in perfect accent) English, don't you agree?
So have you passed the part where he is supposed to kill Maria yet? Coz that scene and the song accompanying it was awesome.
Oh the song. I love the song that gets repeated over and again in this one *glee*

Don't think so, actually, but now I am going to listen more carefully and see.

That was so awesome!!! And he couldn't kill her and was freaking out over his sister and I loved the scene when he tracked down mob guy and went all to pieces and then saw his sis was ok. I am a sucker for the sibling stuff.

Date: 2008-06-06 02:05 pm (UTC)I think at one point somewhere in that ep (when adult Harry hugged his younger I think) I thought "Man, why do I see chemistry between the 2?" But I never got into rooting for them or anything :D And I think after that scene someone mentions that Harry adores his little sister like a girlfriend. Hah.
Don't think so, actually, but now I am going to listen more carefully and see.
Pretty sure he is. I actually liked him as the "addie we love to hate."
How are you finding boyfriend of Maria's sister? I was partially liking and hating him in different parts.

Date: 2008-06-06 02:09 pm (UTC)The goofy guy? I am kinda indifferent to him. He's OK but sort of doesn't interest me (is that the one you mean?)...Maybe I am too fixated on SIG. Nahhhh, couldn't be!

LOL

Date: 2008-06-06 02:15 pm (UTC)*laughs* Goofy looks you mean? Certainly wasn't acting goofy for the part I think, LOL. The one that proposed to Maria's sister in what seems to be a landmark in one of the US cities, I think (can't for the life of me remember what it was called?). But wait. Maybe I am going too far ahead...
Maybe I am too fixated on SIG.
Nope. When watching Lobbyist I remember telling one of my sisters (who doesn't really watch doramas) via text message "OMG I'm watching a drama starring that guy from Jumong and OMG... SO HOT!!" LOL :D

Date: 2008-06-06 02:23 pm (UTC)The other guy? He seems OK but bland. Not hot, either. Oh well...SIG has enough for two.
Haven't gotten to proposal. I bet he will propose in Washington DC as that's where they seem to be.

Date: 2008-06-06 03:26 pm (UTC)I am a bit different that I'm reluctant to ff any drama unless it's really boring me. Usually I'd stop watching and pick it up again rather than risk "missing" certain scenes. The only recent drama that I ff a lot and didn't mind doing so was Romantic Princess :D
