BSG: eps 4.2-4.3 thoughts
Jun. 2nd, 2008 12:02 amBeen finally catching up a bit on Battlestar Galactica.
OMG CALLIE. I was very spoiled for it, but still...the visceral shock. Add in the fact that I always liked Callie (if Cylons annihilated my species, I wouldn't be fuzzy towards them either) and...How creepy is Tori? HATE.
I have somehow come both to love Roslin (I've always respected her ability before but I wasn't warm and fuzzy towards her) and to ship A/R. In fact, with the exception of Helo/Athena, it's probably my fave ship on the show. The scene when he reads to her after chemo? Oh Em Gee. One of many many reasons I love BSG is that it allows 'old' people to have a life.
You know who I don't love? Kara. Ugh. I don't respect her (hello, bucket of crazy, high maintenance, emotionally eviscerating other people, solipcistic self-destructive narcissist? Not my thing). She remains a fascinating character though. The scene with Anders, pre-sex, was UGLY. He (or any person) deserves better than that, but she is too wrapped up in her dysfunction to care. OTOH, part of the reason she does all this crap is because people let her walk all over them: from Anders and Lee to even (to a degree) Adama. She has plenty of love and trust, she just doesn't notice it or misuses it.
I feel quite bad for the Chief. But seriously...meeting like this all the time? It's a wonder they weren't detected earlier.
Somehow I lost most of my interest in Lee by now. I don't know why...I still like him but my interest in him is rather gone. (Flip side of the Kara thing, where I don't like her but find her fascinating).
Gaeta! Even if it was only a brief sighting!
I always always love Tom Zarek. Scarily, even if he is manipulative as all get-out, I agree with what he was saying about Roslin. True, nothing is as scary as a person with power AND a messianic complex. Unlike just a power-hungry person, you can't bargain with her. But then, the way the fleet runs has been bothering me for a long time: the parochial, fully-on-connections system. It's not proper governance when it's all about who you know and how much Adama and/or Roslin likes you. I guess it's some sort of a warped Italian city-state model, and I don't find it appealing.
Cylon Civil War? YES. They are becoming human. And with centurions/raiders, they are re-enacting human-cylon thing, with themselves in the roles of those rebelled against by their creations.
"We are machines. We don't have souls." Best. Line. Ever. Gave me shudders.
Kara's ship o' crazy: fine, some might have volunteered. How did the rest of them got picked? I mean, you had to piss someone off pretty badly (I bet that is what happened to Gaeta :P). Also, sorry, this is silliness: wouldn't someone notice senior officers like Helo and Gaeta are gone? Also, why send some of your best people with someone who is very likely crazy or made to lead humans into a trap?

Date: 2008-06-02 04:25 am (UTC)I was NOT happy with Kara either, and it takes a lot to get me angry at her. But I felt better after reading Mark Verheiden's thoughts on the scene. She does get better starting in Road Less Traveled, and there's some really good stuff with Sam there too.
Yeah, I'm also somewhat ambivalent about Lee these days, which is sad. He was never my favorite character, but I was very interested in him the first three seasons. Still trying to put my thoughts together about him in the last episode - be interested to see what you make of him there. :)

Date: 2008-06-02 04:35 am (UTC)I am glad it gets better with Kara. I liked her all through S3, but the new and resurrected Kara isn't really the same deal, for me. And I am glad there is more Sam stuff.
