Iljimae rocks!

He had to stone his mother.
OMG.
I love this drama like whoa.
Episode 2 was amazing. It's official. I adore Iljimae. Any drama that can go from almost making me feel ill (the stoning thing) to making me LOL like an idiot (the book-buying thing) within the space of 15 minutes is doing something right.
Iljimae's Dad was so freaking awesome:

But was killed anyway and poor little Iljimae had to watch because his Dad hid him and told him not to make a sound:

Still utterly shell-shocked he was found by thief guy:

Iljimae's Dad's former mistress, thief's wife, found out what happened:

And being bug-eyed insane, wanted to turn the kid over to the cops (it seems Ancient Korea has a happy practice, continued by Kim Jong Il, or imprisoning and/or executing all the members of the offending family). I wanted to shake her. I mean, he is a little kid, it's not his fault his Dad wasn't nice to you etc! CHILL.

Thief dude talks her out of it, but it doesn't matter, because still utterly traumatized, Iljimae wanders away.

Only, OMG, (and yes, I started sort of choking up) to see his father's corpse quartered. But he still can't betray himself because he promised his Dad:

The child actors in this are excellent.

He goes back to the ruins of his house but is spotted by the cops:

He hides out with Korean Cosette and her Older Brother (fortune-teller's beggar kids, but Cosette's brother is mistaken for him and killed and he grabs Cosette and promises to protect her and they run).

But she is pulled away from him:

Poor Iljimae, surviving his fall, and looking like he almost lost it (I mean, my God, the kid is eight!) wanders the streets:

Eun Chae hears the boy she played with is dead and loses it:

He sees his mother led past (on purpose, they want to verify that this raggedy boy is, indeed, not Iljimae):

That whole scene, with her denying him and making him deny her, and then him having to say she is crazy, and then the cops making him stone her, and her looking so proud and and and...it really killed me.

You go, Shi Ho! (former Ja Dol), pretending you don't recognize him!

The poor thing!

So, finally let go, he wanders out in a daze and collapses and even Mistress feels sorry for him.

So she takes him home and when he wakes up, he's supressed all this huge trauma and remembers nothing of his past.

Cosette was rescued by one of the killers, actually, who turned his back on violence and took her in (did I mention that people earlier were planning to sell her into child prostitution????)

Thirteen years later, Iljimae has grown up as a carefree bumpkin, Ryung, with Thief and Mistress. He doesn't remember his past, but it doesn't stop him from being tortured because his quasi-dad makes him go to school, and aristocrats recent it and torture him. I think their ringleader is Evil Jr., Eun Chae's brother.

Yes, these are indeed our first glimpses of grown-up LJK. This drama caters to me pretty awesomely.

They leave him to freeze to death but luckily a hunter rescues him.

He has PTSD nightmares about his past, which he doesn't remember when he is awake. Poor woobie! They are pretty awful.

Yes, I capped this scene a lot.

But when he wakes up, he remembers none of it and is his 'own' cheerful self:

In his normal life, he is a dork:

LOL, I sort of died. Korean Cosette and her quasi-Dad lure him in to sell him some 'exciting' books. LOL.

Seriously, I loled so hard.

SO FUNNY.

Thief drags him to school after all.

And despite his apologies and deprecation, Evil Jr. decides to teach him yet another lesson:

Previews for ep 3 make me HAPPY:
