dangermousie: (Kara Lee play)
[personal profile] dangermousie
1. Because she gets him to relax, and nobody else seems to. (see finger painting in AoC or playing around in Colonial Day). And having a stick up one's ass all the time would be pretty darn uncomfortable.

2. Because she cried out his name while having sex with someone else and I love the sheer frak-uppedness of that.

3. Because they always refer to each other by their first names and not call signs. I don't know why, but I love it.

4. Because she is unquestionably the better pilot and probably the better fighter yet this is not kibosh on the relationship.

5. Because I love their banter and I love that they seem to be best friends. I am all for having best friend and lover be the same person. I was a goner since 33 where she bawls him out for not acting like a CAG and forcing her to take her meds and hit her if she doesn't comply, so he says "will you take it or should I hit you?" and they burst out laughing and she takes the meds. Love.

6. Because he liked her before she put on a dress.

7. Because the rulebound guy lets the rules go hang in a spectacular manner when she is involved, whether it's by wasting all that fuel and spreading the fleet thin looking for her when she is missing, or by bawling her out in front of the whole deck because he is jealous she slept with another. Picture perfect rule obedience is dull.

8. Because when she hits he hits back. Equals.

9. Because neither of them is able to express what they feel, even if a firing squad was there. I love angst, and they promise plenty.

10. Because they have the same ideas about recreation: brawls, interrogation and booze.

And why do I think that Lee is the one who starts it most of the time?

It's always the quiet ones.....

Yes, indeedy. After all, he is the one who picks that fight in the bar. She is just sitting quietly. One heck of a way to unwind. Adama tells him later he doesn't lose control, but has he seen his baby boy during a brawl?

And it is supposed to be bible that Lee was always in trouble for fighting as a kid.

Also he really knows how to fight dirty. Did you see him with that bottle? Vicious!

Swoon!

I know. I don't know what about it makes me so weak in the knees, as in RL I prefer polite guys who might know how to fight but don't start brawls for fun, but in BSG....sigh. I am sick but I don't want help.

First off, what's OTP?

3. Because they always refer to each other by their first names and not call signs. I don't know why, but I love it.

Well, I gather b/c they knew each other personally via Zak pre-Galactica. They probably called each other by names when Zak brought them together and they 'hung out'. Just my fanwank.

4. Because she is unquestionably the better pilot and probably the better fighter yet this is not kibosh on the relationship.

Yeah, that's kind of cool. True equality! He doesn't mind she's better than he is!

6. Because he liked her before she put on a dress.

Hehe. Yeah. That's always so sweet. :)

7. Because the rulebound guy lets the rules go hang in a spectacular manner when she is involved, whether it's by wasting all that fuel and spreading the fleet thin looking for her when she is missing, or by bawling her out in front of the whole deck because he is jealous she slept with another. Not a shipper per se, but I do like that Lee's a walking ball of emotional turmoil!

8. Because when she hits he hits back. Equals.

Yeah for equality! Don't take her crap!

9. Because neither of them is able to express what they feel, even if a firing squad was there. I love angst, and they promise plenty.

Angst is always good, especially when connected with anyone named Adama.

10. Because they have the same ideas about recreation: brawls, interrogation and booze.

Yes, such nice hobbies.

OTP is "One True Pairing" i.e. the pairing you love most about a particular book/movie/tv show whatever.

They probably called each other by names when Zak brought them together and they 'hung out'. Just my fanwank.

That makes sense. I prefer to think they knew each other pre-Zak, whatever Katee says, because that just explains the closeness (though seeing Lee, why would anyone hook up with Zak), but either way, I guess if they are used to names-basis, they are not going to switch. It just gives a much more personal touch to their interactions.

He doesn't mind she's better than he is!

The only thing I think he is jealous about is that Adama seems to like her better/get along with her better. It takes a strong man to not care when your best friend/potential gf is better that you.

Though of course he has strengths she doesn't: political acumen and political idealism and ability to think about theoretical things on his feet (Kara is good at battle planning, but I can't seen her coming up with a Bastille Day solution). And he is better at dealing with responsibility. They have different strengths and weaknesses that compliment each other.

I do like that Lee's a walking ball of emotional turmoil!

I like fictional characters who are tightly wound and tightly controlled.

Yeah for equality! Don't take her crap!

And it's not as if she is a weak woman one half his size. If it went to a brawl, I am not sure who'd win. Not to hit her back just because she is a woman in such circumstances is patently ridiculous (and sexist). Plus, shows his emotional mess. Yes!!

Angst is always good, especially when connected with anyone named Adama.

Luckily there is more than enough to go around.

such nice hobbies

Well, he can't angst when he is beaten unconscious, but the bruises, they are pretty.

Jamie Bamber once commented that in a brawl between Kara and Lee, Kara would definitely win.

Not that it would stop him from brawling as he went after a guy twice his size in Colonial Day.

Now I have an image of them brawling all across the deck, for some reason. Hmmmmm.

Oooh I like this idea. I think this would make for an excellent scene. A real punch up between them would be almost as good as hot sex (yes I am also sick)

I agree about the equality part, but she only hit him after he insulted her for two minutes. In that occasion, he was the one dishing crap. I still like that he hit back, because they're equals, but this is the one time when I felt like saying : "Dont take his crap".

He was totally out of line there. She is a single, consenting adult who slept with another consenting adult who is single and not in her chain of command. Nothing would indicate that the Colonists hold with the mentality of extamarital sex=Teh Ebil.

I think she doesn't hit him earlier precisely because she feels guilty and as if she cheated on him, which really shows her emotional attachment as much as her moaning "Lee" in Baltar's bed.

Of course. She would have been within her rights to ask him to mind his own business long before, but she felt soooo bad.

It's funny, because at the time, I read some comments saying that Kara was lucky not to end up in the brig for hitting the CAG, which made me go "huh?" Regardless of the fact that this was a personal argument, Lee would have been crazy to do such a thing.

Because, yes, she would have been punished for hitting a superior officer, but Lee would have had to explain to his father how it came to that. And Adama would have asked the deck crew what happened (in the mini, when he's talking to Tigh about Kara's arrest, he knows that Tigh kicked the table first and started the fight, which indicates that he asked questions to the witnesses). Imagine the scene, Adama telling Lee :"So, you insulted one of your junior officers about her sex life and behaved like a jealous boyfriend in front of the whole deck crew. Care to explain that to me?"

Seriously, I would have paid gold to see that. I don't know about their military code of conduct, but there's a good chance that insulting someone under your orders by bringing up her sexual life in public constitutes harassment. So yeah, he was right to just hit back and to keep it private, because this was never professional.

I can just imagine the scene. Heh.

I don't think Lee would have ever turned her in, because he likes to keep his pain private and directed at that particular individual he is mad at, but when he loses his temper he just doesn't care who hears. However, he'd have time to think (though not cool down) while having to put her on report etc.

The funny thing is, I was rewatching KLGI yesterday, and the scene where he makes her snap to attention reminded me of 33. She is always after him to act not like a friend but a CAG, and then she gets it and she hates it.

It's an interesting insight into their dynamic that he got over her passing his brother faster than her sleeping with Baltar. Boy, they are screwed up beyond repair (and why I love them).

No, that would have been out of character. Regardless of the fact that he would have had more to lose if this came to the ears of the commander, it would have been the action of an asshole and a hypocrite, and he's neither. He may have behaved like a jerk at the moment, but he's usually fair. Er, except when he's angry. I would really have thought less of him if he'd done that.

The funny/sad thing is that poor Kara probably talked to Tigh, whom she hates, because she was trying to avoid Lee after their fight. Which finally gave him a legitimate reason to tear her a new one, and he certainly wasn't going to miss it. So it was still very much personal. :)

He certainly has his priorities in order, doesn't he? Heh. They're so messed up, they really fit together.

Maybe he blows up so well because he doesn't do it so often. Or maybe he keeps his temper under such control because he knows how spectacularly he loses it.

Yes. He was acting all by the book CAG, a mean CAG, a Tigh-like CAG. But of course that wasn't because he just saw the light, but because he found a way to lash back at him (he just exhibited all this interest in her and she went and slept with another man. I just love how friendly and uncomprehending he is in the card game scene and then the shoe drops).

Yeah, two mess-ups go together.

Yeah, Jamie Bamber mentions this in an interview. He says Apollo has resentment or jealousy towards Starbuck for being the 'favorite child' of his father's, and Starbuck just fits in with the crew (you know, being the problem child of Galactica ;) ).

JB offers a lot of insight into his character which, sadly, have not been explored/shown in season one. I hope his thoughtful anaylsis means some of what he says will be in season two.

All wonderfully true.

so he says "will you take it or should I hit you?"

The thing I love the most about that is the fact that his voice gets all low and husky and seductive when he says it so it seems more like he's saying, "Am I going to have to make sweet love to you, Lt.?" than "Am I going to have to smack you in the mouth, Lt.?"

Cos OMG YOU KNOW THAT'S WHAT HE MEANT.

10. Because they have the same ideas about recreation: brawls, interrogation and booze.

Dude. In real life I don't even believe in violence, like, ever and am generally made ill by alpha male posturing...but when Lee's in that bar, and he's sipping his ambrosia and being all testosterone-y and then with the "Are you looking for this?!" and omg the interrogation...and just...guh.

Sexiest thing ever.

[livejournal.com profile] dearladydisdain just pointed out to me yesterday how we two are such regressive little feminists when it comes to our fictional boyfriends and husbands.

So sad. Woe.

Oooooh, *shivers* How right you are. But at that mental image, rational thought has fled. If that was the case, Starbuck should be recalcitant all the time :D

such regressive little feminists when it comes to our fictional boyfriends and husbands.

But that's because the woman he is sweet is just as strong as he is. He isn't going for an ego-bossting meek little woman. So violence is not just alpha posturing.

:)

It explains so much. She wants to hear Lee's sexy!voice directed at her as often as possible. Which...who wouldn't?

Totally. The fact that he only starts slinging the testosterone when he's upholding democracy, in turmoil about his repressed-but-not-really love for Starbuck, or, best of all, when Kara does it first just makes me love them both all the more.
