So, ladies and gents.

Will I like Prince Caspian?

Seeing that I disliked the first Narnia movie, tried reading the books and found them dull (sorry!), and with some exceptions am not big on children's lit as a whole (I don't look down on it as a genre or anything, but it's not my thing, any more than horror is my thing).

BUT.

They promise me battles! Medieval-style battles. And you know what a sucker I am for those. I can tolerate a lot for that sort of thing.

So, should I brave the talking animals *yikes* in order to see some carnage?

LOL, looked at it that way, not a bad bet.

I've heard it's okay and the battles are pretty fierce but oddly enough no blood. After LOTR I guess most movie battles will fall short, though. I suppose the key is to go in not expecting much at all.

Personally I'll skip it because I tried the books and hated Christianity allegory shit. :D

Yeah, I am not big on allegory either. Oh well, battles will probably lure me anyway.

Battles are not my thing anyway, but if that's your only reason for going to see Prince Caspian, you'll probably be disappointed. The battles are not a particularly large part of the movie, nor are they especially epic and exciting.

Well, I could take or leave the first movie, and I read the book for the first time afterwards as well (my reaction was more, "that's it"?! than "boring", I think it's probably something you have to read as a kid first), but I am still going to see this one, because damn, that Prince Caspian guy is extremely good-looking. *g*

Heee, that's an excellent reason.

I'm certainly the wrong person to be commenting, as I'm hopelessly invested in the Narnia Chronicles - but you might like it better than the first film for two reasons: (a) the battles are many, and they're vastly improved from the first film - including a particularly badass single combat swordfight between Peter and Miraz; (b) Ben Barnes as Caspian is pretty smokin', and quite likeable as a character to boot.

It's probably the most violent PG movie I've ever seen. It even features a blink-and-you'll miss it decapitation! Woo!

The carnage is pretty awesome. I got shades of LOTR from it.

And if for nothing else, do it for the Barnes.

I should have referred you to my message on your voicemail just after I watched it, or to my entry in LJ... There is no getting away from talking and fighting animals. They are an integral part of the movie, including all of the battle scenes. If you can handle it, then the battle scenes won't seem ridiculous to you, otherwise, you will keep cringing even when the epic battle is being fought. Otherwise, it is darker and relatively smarter then the first movie, but falls short of the epic standards of the LOR trilogy. In the beginning, it felt like a healthy mix of early Harry Potters and Stardust, which didn't sit well with me, but it got better towards the end. For some reason, I don't think that you will enjoy it too much. As much as I am more tolerant and like epic movies, I have no wish to see it for the second time.
