The Devil is, already, quarter of the way in, one of my Top 3 kdramas (the other two are The Legend and Capital Scandal). Seriously, you guys, it's amazing. From the acting, to the script, to cinematography. Even if you never wanted to watch a single Korean drama, you should watch this one.

Episode 4 was amazing, but episode 5 tore out my heart.

Cop's awful 'friend' is out of jail and invited Lawyer to the get-together:

I love the Cop is slightly uneasy by the Lawyer but cannot place his finger on why:

I love this shot. It's like a motif, repeated each episode...

Has there ever been a kdrama shot so beautifully?

I hate him:

Oh, Cop. He is clearly haunted by something in his past. But, the whole point is, whatever it is, he is a good person now. And for Lawyer to try to destroy his life (because that is so what he is aiming for) is such a waste!

I love these shots:

How he sits so still is rather freaky:

That is not a happy person.

Cop with his best friend:

Haunted by his past:

Oh, I love him so! Lawyer is all control and perfection but Cop is so human, so alive. I wonder if it's because he can allow himself the luxury of falling apart.

He sees Librarian and tries to blow it off:

But she, always, knows how to say the right thing.

I love these distorted shots of Lawyer. He is so trapped, isn't he? Trapped by his revenge and the past, and it's distorting him...

I want them to hook up:

Love the split screens:

Librarian saves the book Lawyer wanted:

Crime rectreation scene. The crime is very similar to mysterious flashback crime...

Accused is glad to see Lawyer. Oh, it kills me, the trust these people place in him. And the thing is, I do think he genuinely cares for them and feels guilty about his use of them. It's just he is so driven to revenge, he cannot stop despite that, despite it burning his soul up into bits. I think that is part of the tragedy. Cop might have been a bad person, but he bacame a good one. And Lawyer is someone, who is at his base, a wonderful person, who is slowly killing that part of himself for revenge:

Afterwards:

Their meetings are such a contrast between the two men:

Love this shot.

It's late and he hasn't shown up:

She discovers the reference to Gate of Hell (Faust, Rodin, now Dante. Impressive):

I sort of died during this scene. I have to say Shin Min Ah and Joo Ji Hoon have psycho levels of chemistry. Which they need, as it's all unspoken.

He is so human with her. It's like he only allows himself a certain quantum of humanity, because otherwise he'd be distracted, but with her he is just effortlessly...normal.

She shines when he is around, doesn't she? And I wonder if a huge thing for him is her uncomplicated goodness, despite all the dark things she's seen. She managed to keep her warmth and energy. (She is sort of a private corner of sanity for both the Lawyer and the Cop, isn't she?)

And the lights go out and she tries to find the switch:

And!!! Hug!not!hug as he reaches for the switch. OMG.

His eyes are actually warm when he looks at her.

But how could they not be. Just look at her! So beautiful and warm and good.

Some pretty shots:

Cop with his best friend:

Cop is worried about next murder:

I love these shots:

Worried:

Creepy:

Pretty:

And this is where I began to hate the Lawyer. You do NOT use children in your revenge schemes, however indirectly.

He drives her home (he knew her mom would freak about her absence and think Cop's friend took her):

And tells her fariytales. It kills me that it isn't all an act, on his part.

Love these shots:

Cop discovers his friend dying (but who killed him. I think Lawyer planned kid's mom to kill him, but she clearly did not. So who, what?)

Previews:

And then came episode 5 which sort of stamped all over my heart.

The drama intercuts with Cop falling to pieces watching his friend die and Lawyer returning the kid to her Mom. Oh, I hated Lawyer so badly here because Cop so broke my heart into teeny-tiny bits...it was such raw pain (I simply must now see everything Uhm Tae Woong has been in, btw. He is amazing). After all, what did Cop's friend ever do to Lawyer (but the odd thing is, I fluctuate between loathing him and feeling for him, and even wanting him to change and leave and become happy. I am very impressed by Joo Ji Hoon here. Very).

Seriously, I was crying.

I love how he loses it and his fellow detective restrains him. Seriously, hook up!

This scene wa so amazing. I guess I might as well ship Cop/Librarian too. It's all going to end up equally well, I am sure. (I love how he is in total torment so he automatically comes to find her, even if he doesn't know why).

The obligatory shot:

Love the angle:

The Lawyer's wardrobe is stark, crisp, not lived in, and strictly black-and-white. No warm colors or nuances there:

This is purely gratuitous on my part:

She tells him it wasn't his fault:

I squeed during this scene (seriously, I go from loathing to loving the Lawyer on a dime):

(side note: how is it humanly possible to be this gorgeous?)

I love this scene in the car, with each sneaking looks when the other is not looking. (Did I mention he earlier asked her out for dinner?)

I want to make everyone I know watch this drama!

Your pics are making my computer slow down a ton, but I don't care because I was curious about this drama. Btw, that's a nice pic of the cop guy in the rain in the pic before the cut. :D I might have to watch this drama after I'm done with the Kim Sam Soon drama I'm watching now just to contrast all the cuteness of it. :P

It's very good. Very different from KSS (not a fan of KSS though).

I loved the Devil.. Shin Min Ah is gorgeous and that lights out scene was so full of UST for having no touching at all. I was totally on my tippy toes.

The lights-out scene was just so incredible. I love how all the UST is in their eyes and body poses, a little too close for just acquaintances, not touching.

You're a screencap machine! Reading your reviews feels just like watching the drama again.

One day I'll take a trip to Korea, find myself a plastic surgeon and tell him I want Joo Ji Hoon's nose.

It's like he only allows himself a certain quantum of humanity, because otherwise he'd be distracted, but with her he is just effortlessly...normal.

That calls for a GIF. Sort of spoilerly, hee. Now you know he chews food! But only in front of her. XD

I actually dig this het OTP. Imagine that.

You're totally right, re: JJH's nose. I was considering Kang Dong Won as winner for 'Best Nose', but then I am reminded by how awesome JJH's is. But then again there is also Bae Yong Joon's fabulous nose. Hmmm. I am clearly confused :D

*shutting eyes tight while scrolling past the entry* ;)

I don't usually mind spoilers but for some reason Devil is one of those I don't want to be spoiled for at all.

Dang, I have to get on with this drama asap... like today, ha.

Yeah, it's very plot-twisty, best not to be spoiled.

Just finished ep 6 - hence I'm still up. A lot will be revealed and going by the preview for ep 7 - even more in that one.

Save for the first 4 eps, the subs in my DVD's have an impressive amount of Engrish - you'd approve. ;P

Oooh, Engrish? :( That sucks, especially for something as twisty as this.

Yup, Engrish... but I've got pretty good at dechipering what the gobbledygook actually means. Oh, how I wish I could understand Korean, sigh.

That lights-out scene is breathtaking. So intense. So beautiful. It's one of the most perfect scenes ever.
