I have just found out that my very favorite Farscape cite/messageboard is shutting down forever on August 24 (it's Kansas, for those interested). No. No no no no no. I like FMD well enough, but it's too contentious and huge and not shippy enough. And there is so much fic at Kansas that I love (guuuh, all the gorgeous Terra Firma fic) and that is nowhere else (to my knowledge) and it's going down as well and the thought of having to have it all saved or printed is hideously scary.

And the thought of missing all the threads and posts is worse still.

I understand the owner's decision: personal and monetary reasons and all that, but I am so fucking depressed now.

I have no words.

I'm in the owner's position more or less: in charge of a website for a fandom I'm no longer interested in. There's no message board, but I still get requests for passwords to the NC-17 fics from time to time, so I guess there ARE people interested in it, even though I'm not. I just renewed it for another six months (it was automatic or it might not have happened) but I'm on disability now, so my discretionary money (especially for something I'm no longer interested in) is getting problematic. *sigh* Maybe I'll appeal to the people who ARE still interested and see if THEY want to foot the bill when it comes up again. But you know folks tend to disappear when the hat is passed, even when they've declared full support and undying love in the past. :D

At least the owner gave notice. I've seen websites just disappear for no reason/with no warning.

Thanks!

It really is upsetting. I dread the day when my HP site of choice, Sugarquill, will go offline.

From what I understood they are copy and pasting the fic over to Terra Firma now. But I could be wrong :s
I think it would have been better if ppl had taken over instead of creating a new one. .. Or even gone to insionfree boards.

The problem is, I think, that it's the authors themselves who are moving their fic over. So if the author has meanwhile left the boards (which has happened routinely, as the board has been around for a couple of years) then it won't be moved. But I might be wrong. I hope I am!
