Because I am rather madly in love with it, I bring you a bunch of unspoilery, yet awesome, screencaps from the second half of the first ep of The Devil.

(Because I love this drama for its sophisticated characters and complex plot).

I apologize for objectifying you, Rumpled Hot Policeman, but come on, can you blame me?

Meanwhile Sexy Deadly Lawyer is meditating, lit in the extra-harsh early morning light he always seems to be shot in (did you notice that? The cop is shot in warm earthy tones and colors (as far as this drama's purposely sterile-looking filters allow), and Psychic Librarian is bathed in this pure light/colors which is a few shades lighter than the cop's, but Lawyer's light goes over that and into extremes of harshness.

It is just so unsettling how his eyes are completely blank, like a dead person's, or a accident victim who's in shock.

Compare his space with Psychic Librarian's warm, livable space:

Uhm Tae Woong is pure awesome. I mean, I loathed him so much in Chun-Hyang but I adore him here, beyond measure, which is very impressive. Note to self: must watch Resurrection!

See what I mean about the slightly grotesque angles and lights?

And the fact that Sexy Deadly Lawyer always gives this odd vibe of...something is not quite right. It's like a pleasant facade with nothing underneath.

Joo Ji Hoon has the market cornered on 'icy' and in Goong they used it to show that it's a forced reserve and underneath he is boyish and desperate for warmth, but here, it's just sort of iciness stripped to the bone. I have to say, the casting with this is spot on, not just because of the iciness thing but because JJH has literally no bad angles and rather 'aristocratic' features and it makes him look even more 'not fitting in' because it's slightly unsettling to have a person that purely 'perfect' looking (that perfection of looks is different from hotness, not that he can't be hot when he wants).

I kinda like the police boss:

The first meeting between the Hot Rumpled Cop and Psychic Librarian was made of awesome, especially when he thought she was deaf :P

HOT!

LOLOLOL he realizes she can talk and he didn't have to write things out!

EEEE! She sees Sexy Deadly Lawyer again. I love how she is so intrigued by him.

Talking more to the cop:

And by the time she gets to the aisle Sexy Deadly Lawyer was at, he is gone:

I love this shot of Sexy Deadly Lawyer at a funeral:

His eyes actually look alive. But very very unhappy.

This is just pretty:

Thank you! I must finish watching this. I LOVED Uhm Tae Woong here, I even couldn't find strength to loath his character in "Delightful Girl" . I think he even looks much younger in "Mawang", for some strange reason.

He does, he looks much better here. Odd.

Hee, yes. He's also way taller than everyone else, and always standing so erect, (physically) looking down on everyone. I just love his perfect suit and chronic catwalk. The only 'imperfection' is the mismatched eyes, which are kind of perfect for evil. XDD

Yeah, their casting director was spot on.

It is also very visually striking. I agree with what you said about its having a sterile look. It does give the feeling that everything's paradoxically stripped while veiled. I like it.

I was rendered speechless by the first few shots...

But I have yet to watch the series. Hmmm...I still have to find a dvd of it though...

Joo Ji Hoon has this kind of stance that wants me to marry him :D
Hehehe, gawd I should really watch that one!

You're really making me want to watch this drama, but I don't like watching dramas that end unhappily. (Yes, I like my happy endings.)

Well you can say Mawang did end quite... happily.

Without giving the ending away, I can say that both the policeman and the lawyer resolved their differences and rested in peace.

Hmm...that does make it seem a little more appealing. I do know (from what I've heard) that the ending makes sense even if it isn't a happy one. It'd just be strange not having the happy ending that I'm used to at the end of the dramas I watch.

It does take some time getting used to it but Mawang is a must-see drama.

It's really good and totally worth it despite the not sunshiny ending.

I think I'll wait and admire a few more of your picspams before I decide...

They will be coming.

It is really an excellent drama, and just might go into top 3 kdramas for me (others being Legend and Capital Scandal).
