Oh God, how I love this jdrama!
Apr. 26th, 2008 07:06 pmI love Aishiteiru to Itte Kure so much! I am now on ep 4 and it's definitely going on the list of my favorites.
What I love most about it is how gorgeously everyday yet romantic it is. I love watching the slow coming together and falling in love of two rather good and grown-up people, who yet have to overcome how different they are, as well of course his issues (understandable) about his handicap and his mother walking out on him because of it.
It's just...so spot on about the little dance of uncertainty and joy when you first meet someone, and the little awkward but wonderful steps as you find out what works and what doesn't and what pieces fit and which do not.
Hiroko's personality is such joy! Spontaneous and so warm. She takes so much joy in everything. And Kohji is just one of the best jdrama guys...rather reserved but with a deliciously hidden sense of humor. The actors have such natural chemistry, and physically they are perfect together: she short but curvy and he tall and rather manly looking. How manga :P
I love all the little bits: her spending the night in his apartment (not that way), when he has a painting deadline, cooking, and talking, and finally falling asleep, and his pulling blanket more about her. Or their trip to the beach (OMG such sweetness). Or the little way the drama shows his constant awareness of his deafness differentiating him: the first fight they have is after they are on the train and she keeps using sign language and people are looking at them (assuming she is deaf too, obviously) and they are off the train (I love that she is just as much a chatterbox in sign language) and he asks her to stop and she asks why and he tells her because people will think she is deaf too, and she says she doesn't care, and he tells her they will laugh at her, and she says she doesn't care, and he says it's because she can hear etc etc etc., and they have a fight and she ends up crying and he ends up hugging her and it's the most adorable thing ever.
I totally can see it as an AU grown-up Rui/Makino btw. EEEE.
Also, how can you resist, look:

I think even my bones melted.
His little sis was smackable though.
