Tonight, I have come to a momentous realization:

It's all Matsumoto Jun's fault.

My current drama obsession that is turning me into a scary-vampire-looking person from lack of sleep?

MatsuJun. My first drama was Mars and it's still my favorite. But despite watching this and Meteor Garden (which I also adored), I wasn't sure if I wanted to pursue the genre in general as opposed to them both being adaptations of manga I loved. Hana Yori Dango jdrama was my third, and it pushed me over the edge. Three in a row, thought I? Must find more. Now look at me.

Weird ships? MatsuJun again. There it was me, a most vanilla person, realizing I was going to a Special Hell, because I was shipping a teacher/student, something I found totally ick before. The drama? Gokusen. Ten minutes in, I was going 'whaaa? whaaaaa? I can't ship Shin/Yankumi' But there is was. (Just read my Gokusen posts for my flailing over that fact). And what did it open up? The floodgates. Forbidden Love. Then Sang-Doo. Now I am impatiently waiting for Hello My Teacher. Yeah.

Falling over the edge of obsessiveness and finally making me learn how to use clubbox (entirely in Korean! Mr. Mousie just shook his head when he learned) and watching hours and hours of a show entirely in Japanese because I am unwiling to wait a couple of days for subtitles? Can we say Hana Yori Dango 2.

Complete destruction of my principles of what I find acceptable in fiction? Yeah. Guess. What is the movie I am totally looking forward to? I am in love with my little sister. It's about twins in love with each other, for God's sake. I can't deal with any sort of 'cest. I was always horrified by it in fic. I am one of the only five people in Supernatural fandom who doesn't slash the brothers. I always have an instinctive shuddery reaction to 'cest in stories. But this movie? I am disturbed by being not at all disturbed but thinking 'angst! good hair! more angst!'

OK.

I give up.

I am afraid to watch Kimi Wa Petto for fear of what that will result in.

Th funny thing, he isn't even my favorite drama actor (Vic Zhou) or jdrama actor (Kimura Takuya or Yamapi are that). LOL.

Oh. I am going to hell. And it's all the fault of a jpop star.

Gokusen (I adore Shin beyond the telling of it. He is such a fictional type of mine):

LOL.

OK, I have introduced self to Nino in Letters from Iwo Jima (and he was amazing. But I am suppose I am too shallow to actively seek out his stuff).

And isn't another Arashi member one of the main guys in Honey and Clover

Are there others? How many people ARE in Arashi anyway?

Hmm, okay. There are five members of Arashi. Don't mind me, I'm just going to start rambling...

Jun, you know. He is Arashi's Girly Man of Sex. He's also the one in the most doramas, I think. He tries to be tough: he's pretty cool and aloof, and seems to be reserved, but... I guess it's hard to be tough when your favorite hobbies are fashion and hairstyles. He's also a huuuuuge camwhore, definitely a pretty boy. Probably the most likely to be gay. He's the youngest member of Arashi, and wants to be a king. I'm not kidding, he's said that.

Nino is the second-to-youngest member. He comes off as very sarcastic, disdainful, whiny, selfish, lazy. I read somewhere that his parents put him in Johnny's because they were afraid he'd get caught up in a bad crowd and thought he could use the discipline; I s'pose that's believable. But he's still a huge dork: he's really into video games, and loves to pull pranks on the other members. He's clever and talented (ambidextrous, plays guitar with his non-dominant hand). Probably more sane than everyone else in Arashi, but that doesn't really say much. He's probably in as many dramas as Matsujun, and is (imho) the better actor. But I can't think of any of his dramas that would be up your alley.

Aiba is the dumbass. Seriously. He must have been dropped on his head as a baby. He's easy on the eyes, nice and tall and slender, has a lovely and unique singing voice, but is just not the brightest crayon in the box. He had a segment on one of their variety shows devoted for the random experiments he'd think up, like "can you make sunglasses with ice?" and "can you knit with noodles?" and "can you cut vegetables with your skates while ice-skating?" But he's also really endearing; he has an educational show about zoos and he's really good with animals (except kangaroos, which terrify him, causing him to yell Engrish phrases like "VERY VERY DANGER!"). Arashi also has a show where they go babysit and make dinner for kids so parents can go out on a date; he's really cute and good with kids, probably since he's just a big kid himself. He's been in a handful of dramas, but always as a supporting actor, never as a lead.

Sho is the badass rapper with the college degree. And he speaks English fluently. He's also really good with children, but a horrible cook. He was usually Aiba's assistant for those dumb experiments, i.e. the one who actually had to wear the ice sunglasses and try to cut leeks with skates. He's Takemoto in Honey and Clover but is also in doramas and stage plays (he starred as Tony in West Side Story - Jun was Bernardo, and Ohno was Riff). He was in the popular dorama Kisarazu Cat's Eye, which is a screwball comedy so it's probably not your type (though it's completely my type!). He's like the spokesperson of Arashi. And is also a newscaster. He's also probably my future husband, maybe. Probably. What? He's really nice to look at! And he'd be such a good father, to such good-looking kids. AND I'M NOT SHARING HIM WITH YOU. YOU ALREADY HAVE MR. MOUSIE.

Ohno is the leader of Arashi (they call him 'Leader' and, more recently, 'Captain'), even though he really doesn't like the position (he won a game of rocks-paper-scissors against Sho on a talk show and got the title). He's rarely in doramas because he prefers stage acting. He's got a baby face, and the best voice in the group (he's usually the one carrying the harmony). He very nearly went to art school instead of pursuing a musical career, he's passionate about dancing and even choreographs a lot of his own dancing. His fanbase consists largely of older women who want him to marry their daughters, thinking he'd make the perfect son-in-law.

Aaaaaaaaaand that's it! Yup. Well, that's not it it (I could still barrage you with random trivia facts if you want, but I'll refrain... for now).

Good Lor'.

That is a lot of info, so I think I am fine :)

I tend to stay away from JE because the entire concept (of JE itself, the band 'concepts') really really freaks me out (and I find the organization itself really disturbing), so I think I'll stick to dramas though. :D Even if I didn't find it really disturbing, it's not the kind of cracky I find fun but the kind of cracky that makes me want to back away (reading someone KAT-TUN pimp post put me off trying anything with Kame for weeks. I mean, even this makes me want to dive back into safe world of kdramas).

I mean, I like people like KimuTaku, Yamapi, Takki and MatsuJun despite them being in JE. Part of the reason I am more comfy with k- and tw-dramas, actually.

Yeah, I'm really not a fan of the concept of JE either (or H!P, which is like JE for girls), because it's like, HERE, TAKE MY CHANCE AT HAVING A NORMAL ADOLESCENCE, PLZ MAKE ME A JPOP STAR. But I actually like their music. And I'm starting to really like Arashi's variety shows (especially 'Kodomo no Bangohan', the one where they go babysitting). And, um, stuff. I dunno. I've completely lost my train of thought.

Re: Nino
Probably more sane than everyone else in Arashi,
Errr - raises hand - have you seen this video where he is dancing around INSANELY in only his boxers?? ROTFLMAO

And he is so adorable in Stand Up!

You know, just from the ongs I have always suspected that Arashi is more a jpop group in the vein of SMAP than KAT-TUN or the others, but now reading that they do variety too - yep, I guess JE is breeding another franchise as money making as SMAP.

So Letters was good then? It's one of those movies that I was dying to see ANYWAY, before I knew about the JE connection.

It was. Very bleak, of course. I wrote a whole review in one of my replies to fireball-says, I'll dig it out and post it as proper post.
