Hana Yori Dango 2: ep 2 live-blogging

Gleeing with the glee of ten thousand suns, here I am on an early grey Saturday morning, with only six hours of sleep. But do I mind?

Heck no.

Because I am watching Hana Yori Dango 2 second ep (raw). Yes, once again, I can't wait for subs. And once again, I felt like live-blogging.



ETA: Oh. Only 46 minutes. I got spoiled with last week's ep. And some of those precious minutes is a recap of the first ep, which I don't need because I've watched it eighteen billion times, but I appreciate the fact that most people aren't insane and might need it. Plus, they recap the kdrama moment (tm kitsune714) of silent pause of first meeting which is my fave scene in a long time, so who am I to complain.

ETA: Yup, it's back to te bday party of doom (though Makino might wish it wasn't) and Queen Bitch Goddess doing the 'you are engaged thing' and the spotlight on Shigeru and we get a montage of how rich her family is. Blah.

ETA: Domyouji and Shigeru take a first look at each other. She: "mmmmm, he's hot." Domyouji? Looks terribly hurt and very unhappy and...betrayed? Trapped? Something. I expect chairs to start flying any moment.

ETA: And then he goes to confront his mother, while Shigeru is being a clown on stage. And Shigeru decides to play on the piano? Shigeru, can I kill you? I always grow to like her as the story progresses, but early on, I always want to strangle her, and this is no exception. Shut the hell up, Shigeru, and go away. Do not come between fangirls and their OTP shipping! You shall be crushed. Though by the look on Domyouji's face, he'd relish that prospect. Seriously, furniture is going to start breaking. But what I want is the bit where he notices Makino is there.

ETA: Everybody seems to be enchanted with Shigeru, even F3 a little. Everyone except me and Domyouji. And Makino as she is busy expresionlessly scarfing the fancy food down (See, there is a reason I love the girl. She has clearly adopted 'this party sucks, I am only here for the food' attitude).

ETA: Dude, Kaede. Not smart. Whatever you are saying is clearly horrible and considering Tsukushi is already holding her fork like a stabbing weapon, I'd stop. Or maybe not. I really want you stabbed with a fork at your own gala.

ETA: I HATE KAEDE. HATE. HATE HATE HATE. Evil, horrible bitch. After Shigeru played that song very well, to a huge crowd of people, the 'MC' is calling up Makino (because Kaede knows she can't play of course) to perform on the piano. Evil. OMG. With the spotlight shining on her and OMG, the look on Domyouji's face when he realizes she is there. Kaede is really a bitch. Fine, forget Makino, she owes her nothing (though extra cruelty is awful anyway). How about her son? What a way for him to find out she is there and that the girl she loves actually saw the whole engagement thing and now will also be humiliated in public and oooooh, I hate Kaede.

ETA: MatsuJun definitely has been going to Yamapi school of smouldering looks of UST. Because the way he looks at her! *dies*

ETA: And they included one of my favorite scenes! Makino banging on the piano. And that is why I love her. She can't play but she won't back down. EEEEE!

ETA: And now she just leaves. And...and...and *hyperventilates* Domyouji chases after her, saying something about making babies. Forget the guests. At last :)

ETA: OMG, and they have a confrontation. But he is still totally holding back (because of what, I need to know. I am dying here.) and OMG in the middle of it he notices that bag with her present to him and OMG, he is like a little kid, he looks so happy and surprised and just I don't know what but enormously so, like he can't believe it (because it means she didn't give up on him and he is always, still taken aback whenever she shows she likes him, like it hasn't sunk in) and OMG, he totally wants it.

ETA: Dude, Domyouji! You grabbed the wrong girl! Heeeee.

ETA: Heeee. I remember the scene with them fighting on the street. And then she bites his ear and he is all flustered and heeeee. EEEEEE. Hilarious. Poor boy.

ETA: Poor Makino. She is so upset she can't highlight straight.

ETA: OK, Shigeru. Stop coming between the OTP and I'll like ya. You are wacky and everything. And you even smacked the chief fangirl. But for now, dieeeeeeeee.

ETA: Domyouji came to schooooooooooooooooooooooooooool! I can sympathize with the screaming fangirls. But not with that checkered vest he is wearing. Back in Japan for a short time and he is already slipping into bad fashion? Oh no.

ETA: And he pushed the chief fangirl. Now, you see, my love for him is completely justified :D (Why DO I really like people behaving badly in this drama when generally I am all about nice behavior? Because who doesn't want to yell at or slug Kaede or the three fangirls. Domyouji and Makino are like our representative ids :))

ETA: What is she telling him? He appears taken aback and sort of defensive and sort of like a five year old caught with his hand in the cookie jar and eeeee. Definitely Yamapi school of burning stares of UST. And now he is upset and I am looking forward to some scene with maybe some explanations but annoying Shigeru shows up. Go awaaaaaay. Let my OTP get on with making babies having conversation.

ETA: Eeeeee! You are NOT allowed to punch him in the face! Only Makino is allowed to do that!

ETA: Shigeru, can I strangle you, please? Grrrrr, and now you want to discuss Domyouji with Makino? Eeeeek. Hello landmines! Because you like him yourself and you don't know their past history and yeah yeah, reasonable I suppose. But you are pushy and annoying and I am a shipper, so seriously, go awaaaaaay.

ETA: What does Kaede have on you, Domyouji? Nude pictures with farm animals? Recordings of you pledging support to terrorist groups? What? Why aren't you dragging Tsukushi away somewhere and making babies telling her what you really feel.

ETA: Did you notice that Kaede, like Darth Vader, gets her own evil intro music?

ETA: Yes, Domyouji is yelling at his mother (I have to say, he's braver than me. One of those cold looks from her and I'd be whimpering in the corner). But what the hell is she and her flunkie telling him? It's something really important and not pleasant at all by the look on his face. Must be pretty bad because he's gone quiet. The boy's life sucks. On the plus side, I really approve of his jacket in that scene.

ETA: He looks really upset. Any more upset, and he'd shave his head, get a tattoo and join a biker gang (well, it's either that or writing goth poetry and I don't think he'd be good at rhyming). I wonder what Kaede's reaction would be to a biker gang son :D

ETA: Did I mention my love for Yuki? Just for the record? Love.

ETA: I want Domyouji chasing after Makino. That's how it's supposed to be, dammit. Not this repression and pining on both sides. Eeeee.

ETA: OMG! F4 bonding time! :love: And now Domyouji is cracking up and Rui too and OMG, I love that because they don't do it often enough and eeeee. LOVE.

ETA: But now Rui brings up Makino, and Domyouji looks like someone just killed his puppy. Awwww. (Domyouji has a very expressive face, I must say. Everything he thinks is totally written on it. He is horrible at concealment).

ETA: Guuuh, you poor angsty, well-dressed woobie with super vulnerable stare and serious voice. You are SO MUCH HOTTER than last season.

ETA: Dude, show, why don't you just kill me with the angst! When Domyouji is unpacking his suitcase and you see he still has, very carefully placed, that box from the cookie she gave him last season? I die. (Though don't they have servants for unpacking? Or maybe he didn't want them to unpack this one because it had that memento in it, eeee!) And he lies down, just holding it to himself. Oh my. I admit I am an easy crier, but I am getting misty-eyed here. And then he is again thinking about that man who killed himself. He is clearly the key to his keeping away from Makino, but why? And then he wakes up after another nightmare. Poor boy. Stop clutching a baked goods container for consolation, go clutch Makino instead and make babies

ETA: Rui! reading F. Scott Ftzgerald! Could I love you any more than I do? Doubtful. And yet you always prove me wrong.

ETA: Eeeek, and he falls in top of her. If I were her, I wouldn't let him get up so quickly. I mean, it's Hanazawa...Rui. And oh no, she is getting a bit confused.

ETA: OMG, Akira and Soujiro could I love you any more than I do now? You took Shigeru out, the both of ya, hoping either will appeal to her and she'll forget about Domyouji. Heeee. And she pwned you :D So probably as a result, both of you are wearing weird sweaters but do I care? Not really. Because Yuki and Soujiro are in the same space. YES! This shipper will take what she can get.

ETA: OMG OMG OMG OMG!!!! The Yuki/Soujiro shipper has died and gone to heaven. Soujiro owns a motorcycle *dies* And he is wearing all black *dies* and now Yuki runs over to him before he rides off and thanks him *dies again* and he is a little surprised and she tells him it's for trying to make it better for Tsukushi. *dies again* And I have no idea what she is saying after that, smiling and laughing a little, but then he is smiling back and OK, the hotness is crazy and they are smiling together and OMG. I am dead so many times.

ETA: OMG, poor Rui. He is calling Shizuka but she is not picking up. Why? What? Btw, is Shizuka mentally challenged or blind? How she could let go of Rui is the biggest mystery of the story.

ETA: And we get a little montage. Tsukushi holding Domyouji's hideous gold-plated phone. Rui trying and failing to call Shizuka. Shigeru twirling in front of the mirror, Domyouji still obsessed with baked goods.

ETA: The way the boy is looking at that box, it's going to have a hole in it from burning staring.

ETA: OK drama, you made your point. You can do angst. I don't need any more angst, because I am already sniffling. Spare my weak heart, OK. Because when Domyouji is sitting there, clutching his hands to sort of control himself, and he looks as near enough tears as makes no difference...nooooooo! And then, just to kill me, we cut to Tsukushi in bed, still with that phone, and a little montage of shippery awesomeness from S1, especially that adorable rain scene.

ETA: OMG! And she calls him (I have to say, that must have been nerve-racking) and he almost doesn't pick up and then they are being so woobieish on the phone, with the quiet and the halting speech and I really wish I understood what they were saying.

ETA: OMG, Domyouji's "quiet serious and tender" voice has just turned me into a giant puddle of goo. Which makes it reallt hard to type.

ETA: And now Makino is crying. Frell! Makino is not allowed to cry!!!

ETA: And Domyouji looks like he is going to cry himself and you see him swallow and then just close his eyes.

ETA: STOP BREAKING MY HEART, HANA YORI DANGO!!!!

ETA: And she appoints a meeting place.

ETA: And then he gets another phone call, and I love how he has to swallow a couple of times and visibly collect and control himself in order to just do the normal-sounding greeting to the person who is calling.

ETA: OMG, now she is putting on the Saturn necklace!

ETA: OMG, pardon me for spazzing but Makino is in a train that looks exactly (of course) like one of the trains Mr. Mousie and I rode when we were in Japan in the fall. Duh, of course, all trains look the same, but I am pathetic, so I am spazzing.

ETA: And now she is so eager to see him, she is running! *dies*

ETA: I knew what was coming but it was like a trainwreck. !@^(&^%*^*$%#$@#!*!!!!!! I can't watch Shigeru kissing Domyouji. I just can't. Seriously, I want to peer through my fingers. And you can see Makino's heart break into tiny pieces.

ETA: Preview! Akira's sisters! Yes! I love the goggling by Yuki and Makino. OMG, more Yuki and Soujiro (this time in a restaurant). Be still my crazy shippy heart. It really looks like they are going to do Yuki/Soujiro. Or at least throw the shippers bones in previews :D And why is Domyouji eating a cookie? Doesn't Kaede feed him? Has his obsession with Makino's cookie spread to other forms of baked goods? More importantly, why is it in the preview? And most important of all, there is still no making of babies.

ETA: I joke to hide my breakin' heart. This ep was MURDER.

I can't wait for subs. Because of the manga/anime/Meteor Garden, I can pick up the gist of what's going on, but it's not the same.

And yeah. D/T scenes totally made me all sniffly. Poor babies :)

OMG ITS ALL SO DAMN ACCURATE. I FEEL EXACTLY LIKE YOU DO AND I WATCHED THE END SCENE AND I HAVE TO SAY TSUKUSHI SERIOUSLY NEEDS TO PWN TSUKASA.

I am dying to know what in the seven hells is going on with Domyouji. His whole thought process is whacked. Seriously! I am just dying to know what it is that has caused such an extreme change in Tsukasas' attitude toward Tsukushi. The scene where they're both holding the cookie boxes and brooding made me squeal "YOU'RE BOTH BLOODY HOPELESS!" What have their friends gotta do lock them in a closet?! *ponders* That might just work.

And Shigeru I do find myself liking her somewhat because she is so wacky. But she is getting in the way of my OTP and so I have no qualms in absolutely detesting her until she gets the msg that Tsukasa belongs with Tsukushi. Those two have come TOO DAMN FAR TO LET THAT INTERFEREING BITCH Kaede destroy their relationship.

AND YES THE MAKINO/RUI STUMBLE! That made my heart pound too, I was like woah don't let him get up, HUGGLE HIM DAMN IT WHILE YOU'RE BEING GIVEN THE OPPUTUNITY. Might I add Shizuka must be as you say "mentally challenged or blind" because Rui is just so damn lovable and adorable and... well moving on...

AND YEY THE Soujiro/Yuuki fangirl in me did a little dance at their scene together. These two have potential and chemistry. I like them as a couple and PRAY they are gunna get together. And I didn't get to se all the preview so when you said they get another scene I whoooped and clapped. I have high hopes for them. Can a good girl reform a playboy?

The ending made me cringe... okay and I screamed... a lot.. and swore... and banged my fists on my desk... and wanted to strangle Tsukasa... HE KNEW! HE KNEW SHE WAS GOING TO MEET HIM THERE! HE DID IT ON PURPOSE WHAT IS HIS DAMAGE?!

That bloody man in his nightmares has a lot to anser for.

HYD 2 is just an angst machine... oh how we suffer. and 6 more days until the next episode. It's like water torture

Oh me too. Something is clearly bothering him horrendously. Enough for him to do everything he can to push away the girl he loves even though it's killing him and even though it's totally out of character. And even more importantly, even though he can see it's really hurting her and he is always so protective of her. So what on earth? I can't be too mad at him though because he is too miserable already.

Exactly. It's not even the fact that he is so bloody gorgeous. But he is so sweet and charming and intelligent and a great friend and just all around awesome guy. She better have a good excuse, especially after her coming back to him last Christmas.

You know, I am such an idiot. I thought Shigeru was there accidentally, but you are right. It's just as likely he got her there. What the hell is going on with him? Though I love that it's as if he cannot push her away by himself, he isn't strong enough. He needs props. And the fact that she still loves him and doesn't give up has got to be both wonderful for him (because it's proof of how much she loves him) and horrible (because it means he has to keep pushing her away).

Have just skimmed the raw, which finished downloading not too long ago, and ZOMG. So hard to contain myself. Will be waiting for subs, because I don't know if I could bear to attempt meta twice, even though I know the story really well. I must say that I love how good the drama casting is in both HYD and Meteor Garden--the Shigeru characters in both HYD2 and Meteor Garden kind of resemble each other, don't you think? And how much do I adore that scene with Soujirou and Akira taking her out? And her exhausting the two of them? It was great in Meteor Garden and it's great now. Also, whatever person who decided to give Soujirou a motorcycle? THANK YOU.

Yeah, the casting person for this is genius. I can't really imagine anyone else in these roles (though on my recent Yamapi kick, I am curious as to waht his take on Domyouji would have been :D)

ahh, i was feeling exactly like you were. second episode, and it's already killing me. i could not get through that phone call scene with dry eyes. how i wish tsukasa would just drop the phone and run to makino's arms. dude... it's totally killing me. and damnit, why did shigeru have to show up where they were supposed to meet. i swear, i love her too, but she really needs to disappear so tsukasa and makino can just be together. but you know, her timing on showing up at there meeting spot makes me think it was her that called tsukasa the night. and i don't want to believe this, but the way tsukasa is trying to hard to avoid makino makes me think that he told her to meet him there. AHH, NO! okay, i take that back. i must continue to believe in him, cause he's not that much of a jerk! and besides, i don't think they would have had that little blow up (in the preview to the next episode).
i think the next episode is really going to do some damage to my heart. and wait... makino collapses in the end of the preview clip. WHY?!?!

Oh yeah. The angst is killing me. They are supposed to be bickering and making me laugh, not making me cry.

I really want to know what's up with Domyouji. And I really wish, whatever it is and however bad it is, he'd share it with the F4 and Makino. Because they are his friends and she loves him and they could try to help. Doing everything on your own isn't so good.

I died of laughter everytime you mentioned making babies, I mean, what babies...LOL. I know what it's like to watch this show and not understand but jut with their faces, and some japanese words I know, I can understand. Ahhh, this show is so killing me, why why??? Why that kiss, it killed me, I'm going crazy. To me, it's even worse that Makino is getting some feelings back for Rui cause that totally gets in the way of the OST. Oh and I too would love Shigeru it only she wouldn't get in the way, it's like "grrr, back away, before I take my hispanic-ness out on you". LOL, nice review, nice to know someone is as hyper about this as I am.

OMG. You rock for writing this. I don't watch it until the subs have come out so I have a bit of a wait. But I TOTALLY don't want to wait until I watch it to find out what happens. So I love you for writing this... (Wow, I'm rambling.)

Anyway, thank you so much for this! I'm so anxious to find out what happens and I totally agree about Shigeru. We all hate her at first... because she's totally ignorant and doesn't know the story behind Domyoji and Makino and interfers like CRAZY. It's when she comes a shipper that I start to love her. XP Poor girl though. And I totally love the fact that they kept Yuki/Sojiro. It was a great story line in the manga so I wonder how much they're going to keep to that.

evvvvery single thing you say is EXACTLY what i was thinking the whole time. XD!!! except i speak japanese so i know what they're talkin about in the dialogues, and i would type them up now but the subs should be out sometime tonight i think.

i think i'm like the only girl to ever completely like shigeru. especially since makino is annoying the hell out of me this season. i just wanna yell at her like, "look, domyouji is really, really dense. you just have to tell him word for word that you love him and then everything will be ok. stop angsting about it and do it, i can't take it anymore."

I don't blame Makino for her reaction. In fact, she is being a lot more forthcoming and pushy about the relationship than I would be. She keeps calling him and then goes to NYC and even after the rejection she keeps coming after him. With no encouragement. I'd just give up and just throw up my hands. Because he needs to give back (I am sure he has valid reasons, but still, from her perspective).

I mean, we have those scenes of him fixating on that box she gave him, and looking like he is falling apart completely in his room, but she doesn't see that. She is really emotionally invested in this whole thing so she can't look dispassionately and go 'his face doesn't jibe with what he says.'

i can't believe i wasn't the only one who felt tears with the phone call scene and although waiting for the hardsubs at the moment, you can totally feel the angst and i'm sooo glad they're doing the yuki/soujiro ship but at the moment hating shigeru, and makino needs to step up. ahhhh!!! why did doumyoji not check who's kissing him!!!!!!! men!! anyways, can't wait till subs are out so i can find out what they are saying.

Watching Makino and Domyouji breaks my heart everytime because you can see how much they love each other but it's almost as if pride gets in the way and neither wants to get their heart broken.

If he doesn't stop pronto, he will lose her. There is only so much hurt she can take. She cames making the first move but he won't reciprocate and she'll get tired. And there is the awesome Rui by her side. He is going to lose her if he doesn't watch out.

But the series so far, the angst, and Matsujun's emotional faces can only be expressed in one word: HemmingYAY!

I had similar reactions to yours while watching. It's difficult only being able to understand a few words here or there.

I could be completely wrong, but I feel that Tsukasa (or Stupid Guy as I've been calling him lately) is only ignoring Tsukushi because he made a deal with his mother.

The drama seems to be following most of the same plot lines as the manga, just not in the same (or right) order. In the manga Tsukasa went to New York twice, once towards the middle (I think? I forget what volume exactly.) and then again when the series finished. From what I remember, the first time Tsukasa went to New York it was because his mother said that she would leave them alone for a while if he ignored her for a few months.

Alright, I finally managed to start downloading things!!! YAY! I watched Hanadan 2 ep 2, and ep 3 is on my computer, and I am already gearing up to meta all over my livejournal.
