Am planning to go with Mr. Mousie to see Forbidden Kingdom, starring jet Li, Jackie Chan, and Some-American-Guy-Who-Has-to-Be-the-Protagonist-to-make-the-movie-saleable-in-the-US.

Also, apparently Crystal Liu (Chinese Paladin, Return of the Condor Geroes) is in it. She has to be the most beautiful woman I've ever seen. She playes the Token-American-Hero's love interest. I am sure the guy is cute and all, but still quite a stepdown from Huang Xiaoming (ROCH) because not only was he one of the hottest things I have ever come across, he wandered around with giganto swords AND had an animatronic eagle for a friend. And looks hot when wearing a bulap sack.

Seriously.

Anyway, hope it will be fun.

Is Fan Bing Bing also in this, or did I dream it?

Huang Xiaoming, Hu Ge, and Jimmy Lin. (I almost typed Ariel Lin...) It's like she's slumming. I suppose one must sacrifice one's standards to break into the American market and help one's career. Or some such.

I really like her look in this, though...much more approachable than her usual "otherworldly beauty" look. I'm curious to see what what her year off did for her acting(she took a year off after ROCH to study or some such) and to see how she fares in a non-princessy/perfect idol type of role.

The villainess is played by Li Bing Bing(I think "Bing" and "Bing Bing" are popular girl's names in China. Ditto for "Fei" names.) I've only seen her in the one story arc in Strange Tales of Liao Zhai, but I like her, too.

But seriously, especially after seeing this movie and what the kid looked like, it's quite a come-down from HXM, HG and JL to a guy who looks like his biggest achievement was hitting puberty ten days ago :)

I haven't seen it...I think Demi-Gods and Semi-Devils. They're a secondary pairing where she's basically a dictionary for all sorts of kungfu moves, but has no skills, and his father is a serious manslut, so he has half-sisters all over China, and they all fall for him, except that it's eventually revealed that his mother had an affair, so his father isn't really his father. Jimmy Lin's good and cute and looks a lot younger than he is, but they were 15 and 30 at the time(I think the age difference with HXM is even bigger, but she was 18 then.) I think, though, that they became friends or something during it, because he's always there at a lot of her public appearances.

I think Jason was there because half the target audience IS Jason...guys who love kung fu movies and would give anything to get to be a kung fu hero and snag the pretty chinese girl. So if you aren't like that, or even if you are a guy who's a kung fu movie nut, but just want your Jackie Chan and Jet Li fighting and a pretty girl or two, you're predisposed to like him.

(Talking to calixa about it the other day, we realized that people's reactions to the character are similar to a lot of the backlash against female characters: "you're some american kid in our kung fu movie. go away." "you're a girl neat our cute guys. go away.")

I looked it up and her age difference with HXM is 10 years. She does look way older than her age (which is why she was so mismatched with that whiny kid).

I have watched bits of My Lucky Star and Jimmy Lin is yummy.

LOL. I didn't mind him being American as much (though the whole blatant 'need to cast white person to make this saleable' was annoying) but his character irritated the heck out of me: whiny and spineless and so stupid. I would have been just as annoyed if that character was Asian.

Some parts of it (with the teen) are annoying but overall it was fun.
