There are rumors, not sure how substantiated, that Koreans want to make their own version of Hana Yori Dango. (thanks
kitkat_cat for linking me to it)
Hmmm. Hanadan is like a kdrama already so yay if true :)
Also, according to that story (on hanadan comm), fans are picking who they'd like (not that the casting people will listen or anything) and some of them make me go whaaaaa?
Makino Tsukushi
1. Yoon Eun Hye: I can actually very much see that. She'd be my first choice. Her or Lee Ji Ah (Sujini in Legend). But the story would so have to be set in college.
2.Goo Hye Sun: no idea who she is
Doumyouji Tsukasa
1. Jo In Sung: Ummm, seeing that Bali is already a much darker, adult and frelled-up version of Hanadan, JIS was MADE to be Domyouji. Except for two not-so-niggling problems: (1) He is enlisting next year and (2) Too old! I suppose if they set it in last year of college, I'd buy it.
2. Kang Dong Won: He can play anyone, but once again, too old? Also, good luck trying to get him to do a drama.
3. Lee Dong Gun: Mmmmm...*drifts off* I somehow see him more as a Rui though. I don't think he could do the requisite off-kilter rage.
4. Jang Hyuk: ???????????? If I can squinch my eyes and see JIS as Domyouji, age-wise, Jang Hyuk? You are kidding! I adore him to bits, but the man is 30+ and looks it! Nothing wrong with that, he is scrumptuous, but how can he be Domyouji? Very very grad student Domyouji? LOL
5. Hyun Bin: he and JIS are most age appropriate of the bunch but once again, much more of a Rui vibe to me. Maybe it's my Snow Queen hangover, but also, his strength is quiet introspective scenes. Even in Kim Sam Soon, those were the ones he rocked, not the angry ones.
My choice: JIS! Though I could see Eric do it, if QSS was any indication of his ability to be a hot, violent jerk. Though once again, he'd be too old.
Hanazawa Rui
1. Im Joo Hwan
2. Choi Si Won
3. Jang Geun Seuk
I don't know who any of them are except JGS who is being awesome as the Prince in HGD and could probably be Rui very well. Joo Ji Hoon could be awesome but it would break my heart for him and YEH to costar and not end up together.
So, out of these? For me? YEH/JIS/JGS.
But something tells me it will be the 'I can't distinguish them' boys from SuJu or similar.
If it even happens.
In other news, just when I thought I couldn't fangirl Bae Yong Joon any harder, apparently one of the things he said while accepting some award or other for The Legend: "If the second part of TWSSG is produced, at that time I would like to express love to Sujni that I could not have done [in part 1, I presume]"
YESSSSSSS. *waves her happy DD/S shipper flag* Btw, if BYJ was 15 years younger, he'd be made to play Rui.

Date: 2008-02-29 06:30 pm (UTC)May be for me it is Lee Wan (for me Gong Yoo is the best as he does intensity very well but he is also much older). He is only 24 and he was quite believable as a youngster in "Tree of Heaven". I liked his slightly Doumyouji-sh character in "Let's go to the beach".
But out of their list - Hyun Bin. Other actors may be good but TOO OLD.

Date: 2008-02-29 07:06 pm (UTC)I'd rather they were older than supposed and 'play younger' than get an actor I can't like.

Date: 2008-02-29 07:15 pm (UTC)The more I think about it, the less the 'older' thing is a problem. Jae Hee portayed a believable highschooler in DGCH (at the first few eps). Now, that was in 2005, but he was born in 1980. And JJH and YEH played highschoolers in 2006 in Goong and they were born in 1982 and 1984 respectively.
So as long as they move it to college, we are OK :)

Date: 2008-02-29 07:31 pm (UTC)I am changing the subject here (sorry! I will forget) - "The Piano" has all elements you like (angst, angst, angst) and BOTH JIS and Go Su. I think it is the closest I have seen to "Bali", only no one dies. If you don't have it I can send!
no subject
Date: 2008-02-29 07:53 pm (UTC)LOL, you know me a little too well.
I meant to get to Piano some time, but never got around. Don't worry, I can get it quite easily. Go Su plays the guy in love with stepsis, right? I was thinking I am in need of another angsty drama. Only You is cute but not intense/angsty enough.
I have two dramas where JIS is actually the lead and gets the girl: Spring Day and Shoot for the Star but I heard they aren't so awesome. Hmmm. I will give it a try just for him.
Btw, have you watched Green Rose? it's with Go Su and is excellent and very Count of Monte Cristo-ish.
THEY BETTER make it a college drama :D I'll watch for JIS or Hyun Bin or JGS.
Heeee. I love Hanadan in any incarnation so am rather excited if this happens. If they cast unknowns though, much much less so. I suppose if they could get Hyun Bin (though seriously, I adore him but CANNOT for the life of me see him as Domyoji), that would definitely make me excited. Or as
The chances of them getting Jo In Sung are nonexistent, I'd say. If they did, I'd watch the silly thing raw, even, but they have better chances getting it filmed in North Korea than having him :) Not only is he enlisting rather soon (this is to be filmed/shown latter half of 2008) so it's timewise not workable short of a rift in time-space continuum, he also seems to have switched to movies only. Bali was his last drama and that was what? 2005? 2006? Blanking. Which is just as well, I suppose, as why would he find Hanadan interesting, after all his character in Hanadan would basically be his character from Bali 'lite.'
I don't see why they are doing Hanadan, frankly, much as I love the manga. There is so much awesome manhwa that just begs to be adopted into a drama.

Date: 2008-02-29 08:09 pm (UTC)He also "gets the girl" in "Piano", this drama more of a type similar to "Capital Scandal" with two separate OTPs. JIS has his own OTP, but he still angsts A LOT. I could be of course wrong but this drama has all over it "written for dangermousie"
- angsty stepsiblings love - check
- angsty angry JIS - check
- angsty pretty Go Su - check
Which is just as well, I suppose, as why would he find Hanadan interesting, after all his character in Hanadan would basically be his character from Bali 'lite.'
** nods ** As you, I'll totally love him in Hanadan. I find him V.V.HOT, actually, and I am even contemplating watching "Bali" properly (which has the ending of HATE)..

YAY!
I actually like the ending of Bali because it makes emotional sense to me, even if it's so horrid, sadness-wise.

Date: 2008-02-29 08:40 pm (UTC)In short, JIS and his sister grew in a nice middle-class family. Then their father dies, his relatives harass the mother and she doesn't know what to do. She meets this guy, a gangster and a total no-gooder who has a young son (his girl-friend had just "dropped" their son on him, actually). The gangster falls in love, they marry, the mother dies in accident. JIS blames the Father and Go Su (who plays the step-sibling brother) for everything . (You can easily ff the backstory it is slightly too long but when it gets going it is all good)
JIS grows angry and becomes a gangster himself. Go Su and the sister have their love going for ages, from childhood. JIS later hooks with a girl who herself is a single mother and their love story develops too (and I love this bit because there is that element of "JIS was an orphan and he got attached to the child because he was orphan too). As far as I can remember Go Su and the sister don't have a good ending but JIS does.
And in the middle - much family angst and strange but powerful feelings but everyone reconciles at the end.
Thank you very much for the link!!!!!!!!!!!

Date: 2008-02-29 04:50 pm (UTC)On the other hand, it's not really how businesses work (though bullying happens in offices, too).
But yeah, they'll have to find younger males to cast as Domyouji if they want this drama to be believable. Also I do not understand why Rui would be played by an actor considerably younger than the actors rumored for the DM role.
Choi Siwon was the dude in that Legend of Hyang Dan drama. He's also in Super Junior. He'd be okay as Rui (he played a cold character in a movie once but he can be warm, too) but Jesus Christ they do need to find a younger guy for the role of Domyouji.
I'm trying to think of some younger guys who've played smaller roles. I could see that waffle guy from Coffee Prince as Domyouji but then the girl would have to be considerably younger, too.

Date: 2008-02-29 05:34 pm (UTC)They'd definitely need to get younger guys (and gals) than the ones listed, which is a pity since I love the ones listed and know for sure they can act :)

Date: 2008-02-29 05:24 pm (UTC)Here are my personal picks:
Doumyouji Tsukasa: Jae Hee
~Since he's my favorite actor, I just want an excuse to see him all tormented, obsessive, and angry; aka, HOT!!! Besides, he was great in The Art of Fighting, so I know he can pull off the pissed off, don't mess with me, look. Though of course Jo In Sung would be amazing too, especially if they set it in college.
Makino Tsukushi: Yoon Eun Hye
~I can really see her in that role. She'd be cute and feisty, and fit perfectly! Though I'd be just as happy if they decided to chose some lesser/unknown actress... just as long as she fit the role, and could act.
Hanazawa Rui: Jo Hyun Jae
~Even though I didn't like love letter, I thought he played the quiet, nice guy really well, and could really embody that in Rui. Though Im Joo Hwan would work too, especially if set in high school.
Though, really, I'd watch it no matter WHO starred in it. I hope this turns out to be real!! ^_^

Of course, the one problem is that both Jae Hee and JHJ are 27? 28? I guess I'd be able to buy them as college students. But not highschool ones, that's for sure.

Date: 2008-02-29 09:14 pm (UTC)As far as just general look, age (or at least looking young enough to play a highschooler), vibe - I kind of like the idea of Lee Wan. I know he could pull off the arrogant, rich kid. I'm not sure if he could pull of Doumyouji who is that special mixture of angry-childish-unpredictable-dense but still appealing arrogant, rich kid but you never know.
It's not an easy character to play and I'm with you, I can't really think of any Korean actors under 25 to play him - maybe because I don't really follow them.

Date: 2008-02-29 09:32 pm (UTC)It’s being handled by the people that did Goong, so it should be okay. My guess is they will set it in high school and cast unknowns or people that have only had smaller roles in dramas/films. Maybe some kids from boy/girl groups. :/ I also think they will cast age correct– no one over 20-22. I’m looking forward to it.
But. . . I do wish a certain someone could play the male lead. ‘Cause Jo In Sung would be perfect – he can angst with the best of them. But, he’s too old and going into the army. :(

Date: 2008-02-29 09:41 pm (UTC)I really really would LOVE for Jo In Sung to play Domyouji. He was made to do this. He can do a total arrogant bastard, and an angsty woobie you just want to hug equally well. Plus, after seeing Dirty Carnival, if he went violent, it would be genuinely scary. But you are right, too old, army-bound, and probably uninterested into the bargain. If only they chose to do this in 2004-5 or so!
My ideal cast would all be too old: JIS for Domyouji, Hyun Bin for Rui, Han Ji Min for Makino. Oh well...
Even someone they could conceivably cast now, YEH (for Makino) who I'd like, is still too old. Let's hope they get a good bunch of unknowns though. After all, I adored LJH in Goong and that was his first drama.
no subject
Date: 2008-02-29 10:50 pm (UTC)Jo In Sung was born to play Domyouji. He can get violent and be scary-angry. But, he can also bring the woobie angst and adorkableness that is Domyouji. However, all your reasons are correct: 26/27 (in western years), army-bound, and most likely not interested. It would have been great if they had done it four or five years ago!
Hyun Bin would be a great Rui. And, I never thought about it but. . . Han Ji Min would be the perfect Makino. Perfect. But, aren't they both 25 or so? There's something oddly creepy about a 25 year old playing a 16/17 year old.
YEH is, what 23? Maybe a bit old for the part of Makino. To me she doesn't look sixteen. And really, Makino is more of a 'break out' role for someone.
Unknowns or kids that have had small roles is best, I think. That's if they set it in high school. 'Cause, college was pushing it. And, if it took place in a workplace - in the real world, Makino would be sueing their butts by the end of episode one.

Yes. He would seriously be perfect but...alas. I guess I can console myself with Bali only that would make me bawl worse. I will instead watch Piano, which apparently has plenty of angst for him, but an OTP and a happy ending (according to
Yeah, every single one of them is too old. I don't mind the age difference really (I am used to American shows with 30 year old playing teens) but I'd be surprised if they cast it this way and would prefer it be set in college if they do cast 'names.' YEH is 23, yeah. She is about the only one I could see as Makino, age-wise and even then if Makino was in college.
College was pushing it but I can deal with it, but yes, workplace? No way.

She would be great. But, I personally think she's "graduated" from high school/college aged girl roles. I think in her next drama she'll end up playing a young woman freash out of collage.

How about Joo Ji Hoon?
no subject
Date: 2008-02-29 11:44 pm (UTC)Joo Ji Hoon is one of my drama faves, but I can't see him as Domyouji. In both Goong and Devil he played rather reserved types. I can't see him as hyper-loud and in your face. OTOH, he was initially cast as Hong Gil Dong so maybe Hong Sisters knew something I don't and he can be hyper.

I guess for Rui i'll have to go with Jang Geun Seuk just because i liked him a the Prince but i'm not sure i can see him as Rui.

We agreed: Joo Ji Hoon could be awesome but it would break my heart for him and YEH to costar and not end up together. We actually see him as Rui. The really quiet, intense type.
My friend and I actually thought Moon Geun-young, remembering her from My Little Bride would be great for Makino. Feisty and comedic but can be a touch vulnerable.
Kim Jae-wook should definitely be one of the F4. :)

Re: YEH. I totally see your point. Could she do Makino? In her sleep. Should she? That's a whole other question. I could see why she wouldn't want to.
JJH would make an awesome Rui. He fits the vibe perfectly. it's just. I don't want to turn into a Rui/Makino shipper, but if he and YEH were cast, I would.
MGY would definitely be a good choice for Makino.
I am blanking on KJW. *embarassed* What was he in?
