Every night I cut out my heart. But in the morning it was full again.

If you had to pick just one favorite movie, what would it be?

As you can guess by the above quote, mine is The English Patient.

Yours?

If we're choosing just one, mine is most likely Contact, with Jodie Foster and Matthew McConaughey. I was a teenager when it came out and it's just stuck with me the last ten years.

Contact was my favourite movie for a very long time. :)

The English Patient? Really? So wonderful! It's one of my top faves, too, and I was obsessed with it for years.

Picking a favorite is nearly impossible for me, however. There are too many I love! But...if I was absolutely forced to choose one...it would probably be The Philadelphia Story with Katherine Hepburn, Cary Grant & Jimmy Stewart. It gets me every single time. :)

That would have to be Hero with Jet Li, Zhang Ziyi, Tony Leung, and Maggie Cheung. Beautiful action and fighting sequences, complex storyline, breath-taking cinematography, and awesome acting.

I have a long list by genre, but if I had to REALLY choose, probably Casablanca.

If I had to choose just one .... A Bronx Tale.

I wish I could like The English Patient, but I didn't like it when I first saw it. Granted, I was about 13-14 so I probably didn't appreciate it as it should be appreciated. I think I *will* try it again.

I always find it hard to pick my favourite film, as it depends what I've seen most recently, and then the genre, and whoever I'm obsessed with at the time, but I'd probably say Singing in the Rain overall.

It does have flaws, but I love it, for reasons intellectual, shallow, and emotional.

you know I have no idea! I love so many movies for so many different reasons. it will time me a while to go through them all in my brain!

though The English Patient would be in my top 50 I am sure. or at least 100! I love tons of movies!

Dune (the sci-fi channel mini-series).

Mine would be Baz Luhrmann's Romeo + Juliet. I know everybody loves the Franco Zeffirelli one with Leonard Whiting and Olivia Hussey, but I'm all for the lavishness and the flashiness and anachronism of Luhrmann.

There's a Filipino film, Hihintayin Kita sa Langit, an adaptation of Wuthering Heights; and the sereneness of the Vietnamese film Vertical Ray of the Sun.

But yeah, R+J rules my book.

It's difficult; I have too many favourites on too many different fields. Films that move me, films that simply entertain, films that make you think, so many kinds of films and favourites, all so great among each other.

I think I'd go with Casablanca, like [livejournal.com profile] fire_snake. Sucker for noir, plus it's a great picture all-around, really.

Toe Pick!

If I had to pick just one, it would be The Cutting Edge.

I have seen this so many times, and it still makes me all swoony with it's cheezy ice-skating angst.

I've seen this film, and I judge you for the cheeziness.

Mine would probably be something lame like Disney's Mulan. To be fair I tend to have favourite films in categories with no overall favourite.

Mulan is my favourite Disney cartoon, Singin' in the Rain is my favourite Hollywood film about films, Some Like it Hot is my favourite Hollywood cross-dressing film, The Sound of Music is my favourite Rodgers and Hammerstein, Hero is my favourite Chinese wuxia film, The (1960's) Time Machine is my favourite time travel film, It Happened One Night is my favourite screwball comedy, Mary Poppins is my favourite mysterious nanny helps spoiled kids/fixes dysfunctional family film, The King and I is my favourite Yul Brynner film, The Thief of Baghdad is my favourite '1001 nights'-lite film, Fanaa is my favourite rakish tourguide/spoiler film, Kuch Kuch Hota Hai is my favourite best friends reunited as lovers film...

It's like asking me to choose between my children. If I had any.

I just (honestly) picked the one movie that I could watch over and over and over again! There's no crime in that!? :P

Bend It Like Beckham was a close number 2 for most rewatched movie and Shag: The Movie comes in at number 3.

*is unapologetic about her cheezy taste in movies*

In the Mood for Love...the music, the clothes, Tony Leung, the unexpressed love, what ifs and maybes and angst...I love it...

On the other hand, I can practically recite the lines in Predator off by heart! :)

This french film call Read My Lips...mousy and deaf protagonist and her ex-con love interest. What's not to love.

OK, I just had to go through some genres and share:)
Action/Adventure: Indiana Jones and the Raiders of the Lost Ark
Thriller: Speed
Epic: LOR (especially The Return of the King)
Melodrama: Forest Gump
Spy movie: Casino Royale
Comedy (Sci-Fi): Galaxy Quest
Suspense: The Usual Suspects
Sci-fi: Blade Runner
Film Noir: Maltese Falcon
Romantic: Philadelphia Story
I will stop while I can, otherwise I will be coming with sub-genres to fit everything in.
