Eeeeeee! I just read spoilers for Tsubasa (up to all published volumes) and

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!

WTF?????????????????????????????????????????

That is so INCREDIBLY brilliant. And mind-bending like drugs are involved.

OMG OMG OMG.

But Syaoran. I feel like crying and staring and going OMG OMG OMG. And Fai. Oh, Fai. The quirky, seemingly sweetly laid-back Fai. Compared to whom it turns out Hakkai (from Saiyuki) is well-adjusted and with a happy family background. OMG, Fai. But at least now we have a clear winner for the worst parent and worst life in anime/mangadom. Heck, if it wasn't for the fact that it is manga, I'd say he should be somewhere on heavy sedation meds and psychiatric care. I never thought I'd ever think Kurogane is the healthiest, least messed-up, least dark of the bunch, but compared to Fai and Syaoran he is like Polyanna.

I nearly screamed when I found out that the Syaoran we know, the one who's been there since the beginning of the story, the one who came back to the dig, and who was so determined to save Sakura, ready to give anything, who was so incredible is...

a clone!!!!!!

And that the real Syaoran has been captured by the bad guy who keeps him in a tank. And the clone is supposed to collect the feathers of Sakura for the bad guy and bring them back. But the real Syaoran managed to get to him and gave him half his heart so the clone!Syaoran really thinks and feels the way the real Syaoran would (and doesn't know his clone status). OMG OMG OMG. And that is why clone!Syaoran is blind in one eye, because that is where the real Syaoran sealed the magic. And that is why the real Syaoran is blind in the eye too, because he gave it up to create that magic (what is with Tsubasa and fixation on hurt eyes? We have Fai giving up his eyesight etc etc).

OMG OMG OMG.

He loves Sakura so freaking much.

I kinda feel like crying.

But then the spell is released and clone returns to his 'natural' state. OMG OMG. And stabs Fai. OMG (Who is made into a vampire as the only way to stay alive, and since he has no interest in living, he has to drink Kurogane's blood to live OMG).

And then real Syaoran is back as result of all the above events but but but...

Sakura.

Sakura.

WTF is this? Are they trying to do the Farscape storyline? *weep*

Because of course she doesn't remember Syaoran and her love for him, because of the witch's price for help to her. So she has no knowledge of Syaoran except for the new memories she's made with clone during travels, where she fell in love with him all over again. So this new Syaoran is not her Syaoran and it all has to start all over again.

And Fai! Fai!!!!! He's had the worst life ever. He isn't even Fai, he just took on the name of his dead twin brother. And twins were concidered unlucky, so after their mom killed herself, their father put them in a tower

To quote wiki:

Loathing the twins, but fearing that even greater misfortune would arise from killing them, the king decided that the only way to stop the "curse" of the twins was for them to be unhappy. He gave them an ultimatum: have one kill the other or have them both locked up separately in a place where magic is ineffective and time does not flow. Since both refused to kill the other, they were thrown into a tower residing in a deep valley where the bodies of sinners were thrown. Fay was imprisoned atop the tower, and Yuui was confined at the base of the tower. Both were condemned to stay there "until the world's destruction."

However, despite the twins' unhappiness, the number of dead "sinners" dumped into the base of the tower began to grow. While Fay looked on from above, Yuui tried endlessly to climb up the prison so both Fay and himself could escape, even using dead bodies as a ladder, but the wall was too high for him to scale. As time passed by, the king of Valeria himself became insane; he executed every person in the country until only he, Yuui, and Fay were left before jumping into the valley himself and committing suicide in front of a horrified Yuui. He then reminded Yuui that their birth was the reason for the country's misfortune, and that Fay and Yuui would now "pay for that sin" by being the only people alive in Valeria.

Eventually, Fei Wong Reed appeared from another world, and offered them a chance to escape; the catch was, however, that only one of them would be able to, and they had to choose which one. Fay chose to save Yuui, resulting in Fay being thrown from the tower to his death. Fei Wong then tampered with Yuui's memory to make him think that Yuui had chosen to save himself at the cost of his brother's life, allowing Fei Wong to use Yuui's guilt in order to turn him into his servant. In order to bring his twin back to life, Yuui allowed Fei Wong to bestow two curses upon him; one curse was erased from his memory because Fei Wong felt that Yuui "had no need" to remember it.

...And it's only the start, it's downhill for Fai from there, OMG. No wonder he doesn't care if he lives or dies.

Also, I don't normally see slash, but Kurogane/Fai? Yeah.

This post probably made no sense to anyone.

Now, are we talking anime Hakkai, or manga Hakkai? Because anime Hakkai is all nice and fluffy and undamaged in comparison to manga Hakkai.

I was lured into giving Clamp another chance(after royally being screwed over by them in the "WTF???" endings dept with Chobits and Wish...I do do not count X...it got past the rule as a fluke...or because it was so pretty...) by amazing spoilers for Tsubasa and xXxHoLic.

I shall be reading xXxHoLic first, though(it's the book about the space time witch.)

Clamp's slash gets through even my "huh? that was slashy?" and, unlike most slash hints, doesn't literally bore the heck out of me(don't ship it, but most canon slash/yaoi makes my eyes glaze over from boredom)

I think when we are talking trying to climb piles of corpses and chained in a place where there is no time, Fai wins over either version of Hakkai :) Never thought I'd be able to say that...

Yeah, most canon slash bores me too.

Tsubasa started out as a relatively straightforward romantic adventure and now it's...seriously my mind is blown.

I am not the hugest fan of CLAMP's drawing style (too many lines, I like art that looks more spare) but this is awesome.

It beats your true love being your older sister and being kidnapped and raped by a demon, leading to your slaughtering a village of humans(not stated but heavily implied) and wiping out an entire demon clan, causing you to become a demon, and your trying to stab out your own eyes with your bare fingers? Hmm...I think probably tied, really.

"Yeah, most canon slash bores me too."

Yes. My dislike for yaoi/slash is usually assumed that it's because guy/guy=ick, but actually it's because it always relies on the idea of guy/guy to carry it and that is SO FREAKING BORING NOW GIVE ME SOME GOOD PLOT ALREADY!!!! (fanon slash and yaoi I ignore unless it must be commented on for "wtf?" factor)

"Tsubasa started out as a relatively straightforward romantic adventure and now it's...seriously my mind is blown."

I read the first 7 or so volumes of Tsubasa relatively as they were coming out...started out loving it then got fed up when it started being little more than AU versions of Clamp characters and dropped it. But I have been promised eye fetishes and clones and vampire twins and other such wondrous things(I haven't looked under the cut so I don't know what all you babbled about), and even told what volumes are likely to bore me, and I shall attempt to be strong. For vampire twins.

"I am not the hugest fan of CLAMP's drawing style (too many lines, I like art that looks more spare) but this is awesome."

If I bought based on art(most popular shojo art annoys me, to be honest, or I'm neutral about it) I'df miss out on far, far too many good things.

And just for a bit of amusement, someone on my f-list posted on the latest Tsubasa chapter while I was commenting.

What you have been promised is indeed true. And oh yeah, definitely vampire twins :)

I need to be promised such things. Ai Yori Aoshi has scarred me to romantic things for a while...at least straight up romance(the romance in Utawarerumono works very well for me because it's rather like Kaoru/Kenshin in that the relationship isn't important because it's romantic, it just happens to be romantic in addition to important) But right now, I need crackcrackcrackcrackcrack in my anime and manga. And preferably people dying at the end of sharp pointy things. And vampire twins.

Poor Fai. I love him so much. He has such a sweet heart to him in spite of how horrible his life has been. Honestly I like Kurogane a lot too, though I think he has a bit of a complex for the princess. And his life has been no picnic either. Poor, poor boys.

Fai is just so self-sacrificing and sweet and kind. But yeah, so messed up I can't imagine.

And I love Kurogane too.

Wow, I definitely only read the first three Tsubasa manga, but WHOA, craziness!!!!

Do you/did you watch Card Captor Sakura? It makes you love Syaoran/Sakura that much more!

And CLAMP has a way of making slash seem so obvious, hahaha!

Ok, Tsubasa's really good, but it's even better when you're familiar with CLAMP because they use a lot of their old characters in an AU kinda world, so it's really cool. Like, Kurogane's princess is Tomoyo from Card Captor Sakura as well, etc. etc.
