Battlestar eps list
Oct. 9th, 2006 05:55 pmHere is the list of all the Battlestar Galactica episodes (35, so far) aranged from most liked to least with reasons. Obviously, spoilers.
33 (1.1): How odd is it that my favorite episode is also the Pilot. But this one is beyond amazing and very time-structured, a pet thing of mine. Plus, we get some angst, some giddy Starbuck/Apollo and some tense tense TENSE and on the ragged edge with no sleep scenes.
Downloaded (2.18): An episode with no Lee, no Kara, no Helo, no G-Boomer this high up? Yes. If anything had a chance to knock 33 off its perch, this would be it. This is a brilliant brilliant take on the Cylon occupied world. Who knew toasters could be this fascinating. And finally, a Baltar I could love. More thoughts on it here.
Scar (2.15): Lee. Kara. Make out. Lee. Kara. Make out. Lee. Kara. MAKEOUT. I am sorry, I cannot be rational about the merits of this ep. Slightly more coherent thoughts here
KLG Part 1 (1.12): I fell in love with it by the end of the teaser. Galactica discovers Kobol, Helo discovers Sharon is a Cylon, Apollo discovers jealousy, and Kara discovers her preference in partners (hint: their name has 3 letters, starts with "L" and ends with "ee.") It's a pity she finds this out when Baltar is on top of her. It only goes deliciously and angstily downhill from there. Perfect, perfect, perfect.
Occupation (3.01): What a way to start the season! Colonies under an iron boot of the Cylons, Tyrol, Tigh and Anders leading the Resistance, Adamas in the sky with no contact, Gaeta the noble double agent and Baltar the helpless puppet. Kara's imprisoned by Leoben and Roslin is as steely and great as ever. This rocks. More thoughts here.
Precipice (3.02): It's actually tied with 'Occupation' which is fitting as they are a two parter. Occupation gets the top ranking though because of the Kara/Leoben chopsticks scene. It's grim and dark and made me yell at my TV and it's just...what TV should be. Have I mentioned that Ellen REALLY loves her husband? And that Tom Zarek is COOL. And Helo and Sharon continue to rock the OTP. And Lee continues to rock the noodles. Longer thoughts on it here.
Pegasus (2.10): Brilliant, brilliant dark ep as Galactica comes across another ship, which really is Galactica in a twisted dark mirror. Apollo and Starbuck get transferred to the Ship of Doom, Tyrol and Helo team up to save Sharon from rape, and Baltar makes me cry. Yes, really. Thoughts on it here
KLG Part 2 (1.13): Starbuck goes back to Caprica. Meanwhile Adama mutinies and Roslin is about to be deposed. Of course, Apollo conducts a counter-mutiny of his own. Oh, and Galactica Boomer tries to deal with a suicidal mission. Season ends with scream-worthy cliffhanger, into the bargain. Gooooooooooooood.
Lay Down Your Burdens, Part 1 (2.19): Everything goes to hell as Baltar emerges as the winner of the election (official title, President Nutty), Sharon distances from Helo after the 'death' of their baby, Tyrol starts having weird dreams (only now, buddy?) and Kara and Lee continue their theater of angst. Longer thoughts on it here.
Final Cut (2.8): I don't know why I love this ep as much as I do, but I do (yes, I am aware, this is circular logic). Maybe because outsider's view always fascinated me, and this attempt by a journo at a "day in the life of BSG" documentary is really an interesting and revealing look at the crew. Of course, pre-noodle Apollo in a towel didn't hurt. Thoughts on it here.
Valley of Darkness (2.2): Yeah, I am Lee-biased. Whatever. This is a brilliant ep about trying to destroy the enemy who has already infiltrated and taking over. Lee leads the attack all the while worrying about his father, still on parole for mutiny (!!) and being the best leader ever in his own inimitable non-rah-rah style. For a man who was ambivalent about the military, he sure does a kick-ass job. And Roslin earns my undying love by being so cool and collected under pressure. We also see Starbuck and Helo bond (yay!) and Dee and Billy are cute which in BSG terms equals doomed. My thoughts on this ep here.
Resurrection Ship, Part 1 (2.11): Political intrigue, hint of craziness, Kara Lee teamwork, heartbreaking scene with Helo and Tyrol. What more can a girl want? More thoughts.
Colonial Day (1.11): Lee and Kara interrogate, brawl, snark and dance. Guuuuh. Oh, and there is twisty politics there too.
You Can't Go Home Again (1.5): Adama and Apollo put personal way ahead of anything else to find Kara. They are stressed, falling apart and on the edge. And I love every second of it. In lighter news, Kara asks Lee to give her a bath. And a hundred NC-17 fics are born.
Hand of God (1.10): Lee saves the day. And it's not even season 2 yet. :Lee love:
Act of Contrition (1.4): Kara deals with trauma of the death of Zak, her fiance. Come on, everyone knows it's a good thing he keeled over. Otherwise, where would all the Kara/Lee shippers be? Adama unleashes his wrath (and makes me want to step back). We know it's going to be sad when the crew is actually having a good time for 2 minutes. Plus, finger painting!
Home Part 1 (2.6): I love this ep. And not just for the Kara/Lee kiss, or the ball bouncing, or Helo drawing a gun on his own people to protect Sharon. It just..works. Brilliant brilliant stuff. Deeper thoughts on it here
Lay Down Your Burdens, Part II (2.20):. Everything goes horribly horribly wrong: Adama grows a mustache in preparation for Earth (circa 1975 Earth) and Lee overdoses on starchy fatty foods. Oh, and the Cylons invade and take over. On the plus side, Kara finds Anders and hooks up with him, thus providing both nifty mushy eye candy and the requisite Lee angst. Hey Lee, I bet her offer of meaningless consolation sex in Scar is beginning to look better and better, huh? More thoughts on it here.
Scattered (2.1): Lee is at his lowest point (they didn't even let him wash his father's blood off his hands!), Roslin is in the brig, Adama in critical condition, and Helo protects Sharon who runs off. And the fun is just beginning in this wonderful ep. Longer thoughts on it here.
Bastille Day (1.3): Lee displays his innate political skill and bedrock principles. Also, he brawls. He also gets exactly what he wants, even though he squares against: his father, the President, and a political terrorist. Oh, and he's held hostage for most of it. He's not my favorite character for his looks.Though the looks don't hurt.
Epiphanies (2.13): Yeah, miracle cure, whatever. This is this high because of Helo/Sharon scenes. The scene in the hallway, where Helo prepares for a futile fight against the Galactica guards and begs Adama? Oh. My. God. More thoughts here.
The Captain's Hand (2.17): Yeah, there is some sort of yammering about abortion issues in the fleet. Whatever. But I love the Lee-centricness of the episode (love my boys heroic) and I love the Kara/Lee scene at the end (between them nothing is easy but everything is so much more alive). Oh and Baltar is being a clever clever slimeball (all that slime must come off his hair). More thoughts here.
Flight of the Phoenix (2.9): Tyrol works out his issues and Helo finds acceptance. Luckily for us, the also results in the crew having a stealth ship. This is solid and in any other show would have been a Top 5 ep. Thoughts on it here
Resurrection Ship, Part 2 (2.12): Pegasus v. Galactica, humans v. Cylons, Lee v. lack of air. Here are some thoughts.
Resistance (2.4): Caprica storyline bores as Helo and Starbuck come across the post apocalyptic resistance sports team. However, the rest is excellent enough to make up for it as Apollo comes up with a plan to restore Roslin to power. I think the Cylons should clone him, and give up their bizarre fascination with Starbuck. My thoughts on the ep here
Fragged (2.3): Tigh is falling apart and so is Crashdown, as Baltar and Roslin pull it together, Lee proves just why I love him with his snark, and Ellen continues her Lady Macbeth wannabe attempts. Longer write-up here
Home Part 2 (2.7): Very good as the crew goes down on Kobol to find the Tomb of Athena and Adama reunites with hiscrazy, mutinous, hot family, Sharon proves her loyalty, and Helo and Sharon earn their OTP status in my eyes by banter and devotion. Oh yeah, they find a path to earth, too. Thoughts here.
Tigh Me Up Tigh Me Down (1.9): Screwball ep of fun as Mrs. Tigh (alcoholic slutty bitch who I adore with an unhealthy passion) is found. Heee.
Sacrifice (2.16): Hostages, blah blah. But it's always cool to see Lee do something smart. RIP Billy, you were nice and non-messed up so off you went. More thoughts
Litmus (1.6): Court-martial of Tyrol, Galactica style. This is not a loved episode by a lot of people, but I like it.
Water (1.2): Galactica Boomer begins to experience black-outs and Tyrol helps her cover up. Of course, there is the minor emergency of lack of water, too. You think the girl is a Cylon? Maybe? Maybe?
Six Degrees of Separation (1.6): Baltar gets his. I wish.
Flesh and Bone (1.7): Good ep but I found the torture disturbing, plus, Starbuck-Leoben games got a bit old.
The Farm (2.5): Somewhat meh. Not a good introduction for Kara's future love interest either. I love the guy by now, but in that ep Anders was just very out of the blue. The whole baby farms idea was underdeveloped, unrealistic (within the confines of this world) and bizarre. Also, Kara is speshul. We get it. But props to Kara for slicing the Cylon's neck with a jagged mirror, to Boomer coming back and saving the day and Tyrol pondering what it is to love a machine (psssst, ask Helo). My longer thoughts on it to be found here
Black Market: Booooring. Lee centric but boooooring. A miracle, but here it is. P.S. Child prostitution is wrong, mkay? But adult prostitution is a good career choice as you get to meet Lee Adama and his cheekbones of doom. Further thoughts here.
