Well, that's definitely a first!!! The Hero and Heroine of a kdrama in bed by episode 2.
!!!!
YES.
The sky has not yet fallen, though.
What is the drama? Only You. Because I've been recommended it by more than one person, and because I wanted to watch Jo Hyun Jae in a drama before Three Dads And One Mom, so I'd know and like him, and be able to deal with Jae Hee losing a girl to him. After I started, I realized that he is the hot cop male lead of Nine Tailed Fox (aka Forbidden Love), which I saw first ep of and loved. I prefer him with
crew cut :)
Ahem, where was I? Yes, right. Only You
OY is a 16-ep drama that stars JHJ, Han Chae Young (the heroine of Delightful Girl Chun-Hyang), and a bunch of yummy food. Han Chae Young is a Korean studying Italian cooking abroad. Her paths cross with JHJ, a college student from a rich family who is in Italy looking for his mother, who walked out on him when he was 7. The meet-cute isn't really romantic, and in fact the two don't mesh well at all: the quirky, kind, expressive Han Chae Young and the icy, 'hot jerk', standoffish JHJ. But they do end up thrown together in a series of misadventures while looking for his mother (long story) and ultimately, Han Chae Young manages to get under JHJ's thick shell a little. And then because he is lonely and vulnerable and she did manage to register for him, and she feels sorry for him and finds him cute, and they are both young and stupid, they end up in bed: no protection, no foresight, not even love (though mutual liking is there). And because he 'discovers' she has a bf the morning after (he is wrong), and they are young and stupid and are merely in like, it doesn't go any further.
They return to their lives: she to cooking school, he to his unloving family (I have barely met his Dad but I have high hopes for hating him: he slaps his kid for wanting to see his Mom, and orders him to drop out of college and join the army. WTF?) Only, remember the 'young and stupid' part? Yup, three months later she is throwing up into the bushes and when the story proper (as opposed to prologue) starts, Han Chae Young is 'Mommy.' She also starts a new job working for a new restaurant. Managed by JHJ. And off we go...
So far (an ep-and-a-half in), I like it even if it isn't love. It starts a little slowly but gets cute and interesting as soon as the OTP meet. JHJ is quite attractive, and manages to walk the fine line of jerk but not hateable jerk; very well. Han Chae Young is her adorable self but is it me or does she not have much of a range? Her character in this one is sort of Chunhyang-lite. It's fun so far. Doesn't seem like a high-pressure or high-stakes drama, but it seems sweet and cute and with shippiness and yumminess, and what more can you want on a cold day?
Here is a shippy MV:

Date: 2008-02-29 10:57 am (UTC)i never liked dramas that dragged OUT the drama for very long, and so that's where this one lost my interest. everything was so dragged out. that and i disliked almost everyone around our otp. grrr, i shall look forward to your reports on this one though. maybe i was a little impatient while watching this, maybe not, but i wanna know what somebody else thinks about the halfway point.

Date: 2008-02-29 11:05 am (UTC)The lead actress doesn't have a lot of range, I agree, and about mid-way through the show, i just wanted to rearrange her hair as it's really bad here!
There is quite a bit of push-pull in the relationship before you end up shouting and throwing things at the tv!
All in all, not world shattering, but still good for a lazy weekend.

Date: 2008-02-29 05:44 pm (UTC)Han Seung-wan leaves for Singapore to surprise his girlfried on her birthday, and Jung Se-jin is on the same flight to say farewell to her deceased "first love" who died in Singapore. When literally bumping into each other at the airport, they accidentally take each other's passports. They meet again and Seung-wan and Se-jin end up spending the day together. Se-jin knows about his girlfriend, who is two timing Seung-Wan with Min Do-Hyuk. Partially to help Seung-Wan avoid from discovering the truth, Se-Jin spends the rest of her time with him. They both get drunk out of sadness of their loves, and end up sleeping together. Back in Korea, Se-jin discovers she is pregnant. She leaves to have the baby alone. A series of events happens for about a year, and Se-Jin's clueless sister ends up spilling the secret to Seung-Wan at this engagement party, showing up with Han Shin-Bi, his daughter, without Se-Jin. Seung-wan's life is forced to face fatherhood and the anger of his two-timing girlfriend - Lee Chae-young. Se-jin reappears as they are forced to marry by their respective families. Complicated love takes place, as Do-Hyuk starts to fall for Se-Jin, and so does Seung-Wan, though Se-Jin is more focused on her loving daughter, as something surprising happens to her. The rest of the story revolves around the family's journey in learning to take responsibility, and learning to love each other.
