Just to prove I have something other on the brain than The Outsiders (though not much), here is a list of summer dramas I am interested in/will be watching/trying out, broken by country.

JAPAN

First Kiss: I am a bit unsure on the plot of this one (and when does it start?) but it stars Inoue Mao who is probably the most adorable jdrama actress ever, so must have.

Hana Kimi: Starts July 3. Starring Horihita Maki and Oguri Shun. This is the one I am most excited about. In case you have slept through all my previous entries, it's about a girl who cross-dresses as a boy to enter an all boys school to be close to her high-jump idol. And ends up rooming with him. Oguri as the lead, getting the girl, would be enough, but it also has the awesome Maki and is based on a fave manga.

Jotei Starring Matsuda Shota and some girl who I haven't seen in anything. Based on a manga, she wants to get revenge, becomes hostess, he helps blah blah. It's Matsuda Shota, do I really care about the plot?

TAIWAN

Why Why Love: Already started. With Mike He and Rainie Yang and Kingone. The only reason I haven't started this yet is because I wanted to hoard a few first eps. OMG. Are you kidding me? Funniness and adorableness of Mike/Rainie owns me.

Plot: Tong Jia Di needs a life besides work, paying down family debt, and more work. So her best friend Jiang Xiao Nan sneaks in a “Love” coupon in Jia Di’s ruffle box praying that the lucky guy who draws it will sweep Jia Di off her feet. As it so happens, Huo Yan, the compassionate manager Jia Di has secret crush on, is the lucky guy. But, tho' the prince can exchange the coupon for Cinderella’s love, it doesn’t mean he will, especially when his devilish younger brother is determined to exchange his “Master/Angel” coupon for her servitude.

This is basically a rehash of Devil Beside You, looks like, but who cares? Mike. Rainie. DIES.

KOREA

Coffee Prince:

Starts on July 5. Starring Yoon Eun Hye and Gong Yoo. Yay for cross-dressing hijinks. Eun Hye cross-dresses as a man and ends up working in a coffee shop run by Gong Yoo. Gong Yoo has no idea Eun Hye is a girl and gets completely overthrown when he realizes he is developing 'gay' feelings for his cute subordinate. YESSSS.

The Time Between Dog and Wolf:

Starting on July 11. Starring Kee Jun Ki, love interest of Lee Jun Ki. And some other guy who is not Lee Jun Ki but is hot anyway. Oh, and did I mention Lee Jun Ki? As you can gather, my interest in this one is somewhat...focused. Heh.

Joking aside (though seeing Junki as the lead, in suits, angsting, and kicking butt, is no joking matter, ladies), the plot of this one sounds very much my thing: this drama is about two long term friends who became enemies under forced circumstances. Lee Junki plays a man who seeks revenge on behalf of his father, a policeman who was killed by a criminal organization.

I need an angsty, tough drama per season and it looks like it will be it.

Cain and Abel:

Is this even a summer drama? No Idea. I think it's supposed to air in September. The plot of this one sounds like it would be incredibly my thing, and add it to the 'mobsters and crossdressers' camp that my summer watching seems to shape up as. I am dying to watch this one.

Two brothers have been separated in childhood and one grew up an upright police officer. The other one had an incredibly tough life and eventually became an assassin for the mob. When they are grown up, their paths cross. Oh, and they same for the same girl, too. The lead (the assassin, in case you want to know. YESSSS. I have my hot cop with 'Wolf,' I need a hot mobster) is So Ji Sub, fresh back from his mandatory Army service. He will hopefully have sexy muscles to show off. I have previously only seen SJS in Bali, where I didn't care for his character, but thought him good-looking and able to angst very well, so bring it on. If he impresses me, I will finally gather my courage to watch MISA, a super famous drama with him in the lead, which I so far stayed away from, as it seems more depressing than Silence.

ETA: Curses. They moved it to 2008. Booo! Still, this means at least two exciting dramas in 2008, with this and ISWAK2.

That is 6 dramas and so chances are half of these end up 'going' with my waiting until they are done, to watch them. This said, it will take a miracle to dislodge Hana Kimi off the 'current watching' list.

I think Legend of the Condor Heroes is also 2008, now, so that's 3...

*really should pay more attention to upcoming dramas but rarely knows about the currently airing stuff outside of what the flist babbles about*

yeah i'm looking forward to hana kimi, coffee prince, the time between dog and wolf, first kiss... not sure about jotei yet but since shota is in it maybe...

and first kiss plot is about mao who is like this spoiled sick girl who lived in the states then goes to japan to see her elder brother * who thinks his sister is this sweet naive sick girl, but instead he gets spoiled, selfish* and she thinks her brother is this great guy *his supposedly kinda shady*. and the reason she comes back to japan is because she needs to undergo a really big surgery but before she wants to go through it she wants to see her brother.. and then she meets this guy at the hospital who is her opposite... so far that is all i know..

hana kimi i think is the one that i'm most looking forward too as well...

I remember you mentioend that you're married. So do you watch drama together with your significant other? If so, doesn't it feel uncomfortable crowding around the monitor? Or do you have one of those giant monitors? :D

LOL.

No, my husband isn't keen on dramas (though he's seen a few eps now and then, by being around me, and he's liked a very few, like Gokusen and Kurosagi :)). But there have been things we've watched on computer together, and if you just plonk it on the bed and watch, it's not bad at all...

Thanks for sharing your list. I just might pick off some from yours.

I've recently seen the teaser for "Coffee Prince." I don't know why, but seeing it, it gave me the impression (or maybe it's just the way I feel at the moment) that it has some seriousness in it, despite the whacked-out plot.

Yay! Sharing is fun.

I agree about CP. It's a kdrama and I have yet to see a kdrama that didn't have at least a smidgeon of angst.

OMG. Coffee Prince has crossdressing? That drama just got 98 times better. YEH ♥ And I just googled the guy who plays opposite her, and he looks like he could be Hyun Bin's little bro. I AM SO IN.

I think my currently-airing slate is full enough with just Hana Kimi and Coffee Prince (though with CP I'll wait for subs). Then there's X-Family in August (aka the Drama You Must Anticipate If You Are A Jiro Wang Fan as it's completely retarded but has Jiro prettiness).

Yup. There is cross-dressing :) There is a trailer for it on youtube and it's to die for :)

I love Jiro but not to levels of fangirlish-watching-everything (that is reserved for Vic Zhou) so what is X-family about?

It's continuation to KO One (aka my "so bad it's good" drama, kind of like a video game for pre-teen boys in drama format with tons of stupid humor). It's really weird to describe but basically characters of KO One travel different time-and-space dimensions to gain back their powers.. And they run into the "equivalents" of Jiro's and Danson's characters in KO One, who're brothers in some other dimension and somehow Jiro's character has a "bad" rocker side and a "good" nerdy side and..

...I'm confusing myself by just typing this up. Long story short, it doesn't seem to be at all romantic but there is a chance that Jiro will have some sort of romantic interest. Plus, he looks hot in glasses. This drama doesn't need to make sense. :P
