Finished ep 14 of Hong Gil Dong!!!!

Cliffhanger of doom!!!!!

Chang Hwe, I want to smack you in the face enough times until you lose that eye you don't use anyway for good!

Eun Hye, go die somewhere! HGD was all 'argh, am in prison, have been tortured, will likely die ASAP and they still think I haven't suffered enough and inflict her on me.' Seriously, girlie. Just go buy a cucumber for self (since I don't think they had mechanical devises back then), or maybe a zucchini and leave poor GD alone.

The 'fighting' moment with YN/HGD was shippiness bestest ever. And what a perfect answer to his question. I rewatched it already. Twice. Her smile! His face! The sheer perfection of it all! She is the best gf ever, to be able to be thus at such a moment because it is what he needs.

Poor sweet lovely Gomi. Awww, I love you.

Yi Nok is adorable. What else is new :)

If Gil Dong was any more awesome, I'd hyperventilate to death. I like him when he is snarly-defiant and rageful. But even more when he mushes at Yi Nok.

As to the King, I shouldn't like an evil homicidal psycho as much as I do, but there it is...

Can't help it - I am bonded with him and love him until death does us part.! But even seriously (without "OMPH! his is my fave character and I love him!" bit), I thought his plotting did a lot of good for GD (even if that was coming from his own purposes to some extent, and to some extent I believe CH honestly likes GD). GD needed to stand up to his father.

It did do good but I still dislike his manipulatio and also pushing HGD into such a suicidal action, again (well, not as suicidal but still...) I don't think he was exactly motivated by GD's wellbeing there. I just really dislike manipulative people, and people who are willing to risk lives of others without second thought and he came across as both.

Oh, I understand now! and I guess it is just one of these things of personal likes and dislikes. I , on the other hand, LOVE manipulative characters when thy are good enough to be really devious and I am impressed with the prince as he is so young..(I even liked Lord Tywin in ASOIF and this is saying something as the guy is evil reincarnate and without any little tiny good trait but his brains).

also pushing HGD into such a suicidal action,

I dunno - thought he was rather displeased HGD acted so "loud" that it led to his capture. The prince wanted his sword, he didn't particular want HGD to get caught.

Eun Hye bugs me to no end. She's just so damn selfish and snobby. She wanted GD to leave everyone behind. It's like comparing day and night with EH and YN. Yi Nok may have wanted GD to run, but she told him to stay.

That scene is actually in my top ten of the show so far. It was just so perfectly done.

Gomi is just the best boy ever. So lovely. I love him. And, all of GD's other people. Those four are great secondary characters. Love them.

Yi Nok is adorable and just so honest and sweet! Gil Dong is pure awesome and made of win. I love the way he's maturing throughout the series. He's defiant and yet has this great moral compass.

The King remains me of a deranged cartoon character.

Yup, it's all about her.

Yes. I love his sense of moral outrage at the injustice. It's this simmering quiet steady anger.

King is evil but so funny.

It is all about EC. I think the writers have tried to make her likeable, but she keeps coming off as unlikeable and selfish. Maybe its the actress, I don't know.

GD's quiet anger is awesome.

Yeah, they clearly want us to like her more than I do. every time she is on screen, I want her to get off.

Often times in kdramas, to me, it seems like the secondary female really is no longer needed after episode seven or so. She just sticks around to be bitchy and tell secrets and cause misunderstandings. And, it's the same thing here.

EC is a character that really is just there most of the time. Her "love" for GD is a plot point, and now that she knows about YN's past, EC will be important. . . but, I really feel like, overall, she is an unlikeable and fairly useless character.

And it sucks that the Hong sisters more or less want us to like her. They almost want us to think 'Oh, maybe GD could (have) fall(en) for her. She's a brave, strong, and an intelligent woman - ahead of her times. But, the truth is everything EC does just comes off as annoying, crazy, and selfish.

OH- Did you hear HGD may get another two episodes? Bringing the show up to 26 eps! Plus - subs for ep 12 of Robbers is out. My Lord, they are starting in on the angst. Where is the "heart-warming" vibe going? Out the window, that's where.

Exactly. They want us to like her, unlike with awful Other Girl in Bali (or other awful other girls in dramas) and I just can't do it. I had the same problem with Uhm Tae-Woong's character in Chunhyang. They wanted us to feel a bit sorry for him by the end but all I wanted was for him to get sepsis and die. Graphically. On screen. And all that with UTW being a much better actor than the actress for EH. Maybe it's a Hong Sisters thing? being kinder to secondaries than they should?

EH's biggest problem is she is boring. She sucks up screen time that could be happier devoted to things/characters I am more interested in. She is necessary for the plot and all but she isn't even fun to hate, like Tennis Girl in My Girl, she is just so outclassed by everybody and everything. Dramabeans seems to like her though, so I suppose she works for some.

ETA: 26 eps! Yay! Hope it happens

ETA2: Robbers, yikes! That is why I stopped watching by ep 4. I liked it, but I needed to find out whether Oh Joon was going to die before continuing and having my heart broken.

Yes! Thank you. There was just something so off and perverted about his character. He was, what 34 or so and CH was, what 17, if not younger? Can we say "Jail"? And the things he did were just crazy! He was a stalker, I'm sorry. I think we were supposed to feel sorry for him, because his "love" for CH drove him 'mad,' or whatever. . . but, from the start I disliked him.

I also disliked the secondary girl -'cause she could not let go! Uh, when your semi-boyfriend is calling you 'Older Sister' and looking for any reason to leave, then it's time to let go. Plus, she was having an affair with him, as he was married! At least, after the time jump, she got better and finally moved on. She was nice, she just wanted what she couldn't have. And really, that's the case with most secondary females in K-dramas = they always figure out they want the male lead after he starts to fall for the female lead.

UTW is a great actor. It took me awhile (because of his creepy DGCH character), but I totally love him now. Did you know, he's going to be in a movie with the lead girl from QSS? I read that on Dramabeans this morning.

As for the actress that plays EH, she was only ever in one movie before this. And, I'm not sure how big of a role she had, but I would guess it was small or medium. She's trying, you can see that. But, I don't think she's really improved the way the other actors have.

Maybe it's a Hong Sisters thing? being kinder to secondaries than they should?

I think it is. They want us to like the secondaries too much. Even when they act cruel, we're supposed to feel sorry for them. Like, in DGCH - for Byun, they wanted us to feel sorry for him before and after he set Mong-ryong up and forced Choon-hyang to leave MR. I'm sorry, I didn't. As for Chae-rin, I think they embraced the fact that she was meant to be bitchy, until the time jump. Then, she was fairly nice. In My Girl - Tennis Girl was fun to hate, though she seemed pointless a lot of the time. Jung-woo, he is someone I did feel sorry for. He was a nice guy. In FC, the secondary leads were okay, they just didn't know when it was time to move on - which was annoying.

I think the Hong sisters just don't want to make unlikeable characters, which backfires some of the time. How/Why am I supposed to feel sorry for someone, whose clearly acting selfishly and/stupid?

EH's biggest problem is she is boring. She sucks up screen time that could be happier devoted to things/characters I am more interested in. She is necessary for the plot

She is boring! I want to FF through her scenes. Even when she interacting with GD or YN, she's boring. Maybe its the actress? Or maybe the writers just don't know what to do with her right now? All her secret info will have to come out sometime, and she clearly wants GD - by any means. I think she's annoying though, and that the info she has on YN just makes her more bitchy and boring. We should just be happy that she's gotten less and less screen time as the series has gone on.

I normally agree with what Dramabeans has to say, but not with this. How is EC mature and adult? She's a creepy, spoiled, child. Not fun or interesting at all. Though, a lot of people liked her in the beginning, as the series has gone on, her supporters have grown less. (Or they are all in hiding) I think the scene in episode 14, in the jail, is what made people stop liking her as much. Or maybe it was the time jump and the way she acted toward GD, YN, etc after it?

I hope so too. I love this drama so much. I really hope it gets picked up by YA. They picked up all the other Hong sister dramas. Minus DGCH. :(

There is one episode left. Tomorrow is the end of the series, I think. Tomorrow or next week. I have a sinking feeling Oh Joon will die. He better not though. One thing I do like about the show - the actors are all wonderful in their roles. They are getting a lot of praise, so that's nice.

Exactly. I ranted about my loathing for him already, twice, so I won't repeat (though am so tempted) but I cannot possibly like anyone who trolls for teenage girls. WTF? Even before he made CH break up with MR and framed the latter for rape (seriously, if you expact me to like him after that stunt, you are crazy), he was still emitting skeezy vibes a mile high. Saying 'it's not his fault, his love for you drove him mad' is sort of like saying 'it's your fault he hit you/raped you/cheated on you. You drove him to it.' WTF? Clearly, love for CH did not drive MR mad, even when she was breaking his heart all over the place, and in fact most people manage to deal with unsuccess in love without committing jail-worthy offenses.

think they embraced the fact that she was meant to be bitchy, until the time jump. Then, she was fairly nice.

Didn't make me like her any better. She only because nice because she lost interest in MR so didn't care if he got a girl or not. And she also didn't inform him of BHD's manipulations.

Jung-woo, he is someone I did feel sorry for. He was a nice guy.

I did adore him so. Glad it looks like LJK will get a girl of his own in Iljimae :)

She is boring! I want to FF through her scenes. Even when she interacting with GD or YN, she's boring.

Exactly. She sucks the energy out.

Re: YA discs. I think they didn't pick up DGCH because there was already an awesome (if out of print) version with excellent subs and they didn't want to duplicate.

I really want to watch Thank You now.

Seriously. When CH's friend told her that, my reaction was WTF? She didn't force him to do anything. He's the one that did all those awful things.

I did adore him so. Glad it looks like LJK will get a girl of his own in Iljimae :)

He was rather wonderful. I wanted him to find a nice girl. LJK is turning into quit the leading man. Isn't his love interest in Iljimae the girl from Spring Waltz? She's cute.

EH (why do I keep calling her EC?) does suck the energy out of scenes. She just sucks. EH and her creepy music need to go away.

No! I wanted to add that to my DVD collection.

I've heard nice things about Thank You.
