Beautoful Days, stop making me cry, OK?

dangermousieETA: Damn, damn, damn, DAMN, Beautiful Days made me cry.
Frell.
But episode 16 is like...it's totally killing me! I actually had to stop the DVD because I was getting too upset. I get invested in fictional people too much!
But that whole bit where he found out his father is a murderer, and Ugly Brother is the son of the man Evil Father killed and ohohOH his face when he confronts his father and hopes it's not true, but of course it is.
And meanwhile Yon-Soo (Heroine) is waiting at the church, all made-up and pretty and happy, waiting for the engagement ceremony, and it's late and late and late and he isn't there.
And he comes in, and he just watches her from the door and you can tell how much he wants to go in, and to have her, and to be with her, but of course he is now thinking he can't (understandably so) and just the look on his face...because she is the one thing he wanted and the one thing he can't allow himself to have.
And then he walks away, still unseen, and she spends all night worrying (and I love that she isn't mad, just worried that something awful has happened, because she knows him and trusts him) and meanwhile he is in some hotel room, getting trashed, and just smashing the mirrors (there is some gorgeous shots in this ep. I am watching this on DVD but I am dling the ep just to screencap it) and then he just ends up curled up in the shower in the fetal position, weeping.
Yeah.
I turned it off because I bet I know what's coming, the famous 'he has to push her away for her own good' scene only now I am really invested in the OTP and totally dreading it.
I wonder how people stand watching these things when they don't know there is a happy ending coming?
Oh, but seriously, it's making me frelling cry.
Dammit.
Oh my darling, darling, darling OTP of Beautiful Days.

The thing is, while I like BD a lot and think it's excellent, I am not going to reshuffle by Top 10 kdramas list to include it (so far, at least). But the OTP in it is one of the best OTPs I've ever seen.
This scene just made me melt and die all over the place, when he came to see her to day before the engagement party. And they sit together, and he jokes that there is still 30 hours for her to back away (and it's a joke, but also not really, because he is insecure about being loved, even if he is much more secure now) and she says she doesn't plan to, and there is time for him to back away. And there is smiling and adorableness and they sit holding hands, and there is grins and nervousness and happiness.
And then they have a conversation about what she should call him, and she asks him if she should call him Minchul, or 'oppa' (LOL) and he pauses and grins and says 'sweetie' and she laughs and he is all defensive and is 'people call each other that' and she says she will call him that when he deserves it.
Oh, I love you, my OTP.
And then he takes a deep breath and confesses how nervous he feels, because he has no idea what a happy marriage is (I'd say so, you have a family from hell) and he is not confident he can make her happy (and it's such a big thing for him to confess his weaknesses and uncertainty, to open up his vulnerability like that) and she smiles quietly and puts her other hand on their intertwined fingers and tells him she will be content to be happy just once in a while as long as she has him, and she plans on making him happy.
Oh, I love you, OTP!
Ugly Brother meanwhile is sadly both unchanged and unlobotomized. On finding out Heroine got engaged, he drags her out and tells her she can't be engaged yet because he hadn't had a chance to show her fully how much he loves her. I hope someone runs your thick scull over with a truck. DIEDIEDIE.
What with BD and with ep 7 of Hong Gil Dong (which deserves and will get its own separate post) tearing out my heart to do a little dance on it, I am all emotional and weepy. Blah. And yet, I love every bit of it.
