I will make you watch this, flist. I will. Because I want someone to jabber about this with!

ETA: !!!!!!!!!!!!! WHAT?????? WHAT WHAT WHAT???? The OTP made love in ep 9 !!!!!!! What are they going to spend next 15 eps on? Ahhh, right, family opposition, and evil secrets, and nearly terminal illness. YES.
But seriously, OMG!!!!!!!! I loved the whole scene with them on the beach, running around, and his oblique confession of love, and kissing (!!!!!), and especially the hot little bit where he reaches towards her shirt, which is unbuttoned at the throat, and she stills, but he just, very slowly, buttons it up (points to the drama for making them adults very physically aware of each other). But knowing it's kdrama, I sort of thought they'd leave it at that.
But no!!! Next scene, it's night, and they are at some traditional-looking inn room, and there some really close-up shots of the two of them (and OMG the way he stares at her? HOT) and then he reaches for her shirt again, to unbutton it, and her hand reaches up and holds his, intercepting it, and then, very slowly she lets go, giving her permission. And they are so in each other's space and is's just so GORGEOUS. And then it cuts until morning when she is on the beach. YES!!!! I mean, that so makes logical sense that if you are two grownups and are in love, you will make love. But in kdrama, that almost never happens, either because they don't get the couple together until the end, or for some other reasons. Huge points to this!!!!
ANYWAY BRING ON MORE, YOU AWESOME DRAMA. At the same time, Ugly Brother is emoing somewhere, but by this point, he irritates me so much, I want someone to film the OTP making out and mail him copies.
So yeah, Beautiful Days continues to be awesome, though I am still wondering at the tendency of a large number of the cast to have bleached hair (including the hero). It's as if they thought they were making a jdrama.
I hit the ff button as soon as Ugly Brother opens his mouth (his latest masterpiece? 'You can never truly love anybody' said to the Hero. Leaving aside the fact that the Hero clearly loves his sister, and even Ugly Brother can tell that so his statement is a fallacy, that thing is such a fourteen-year old thing to say). Ugh.
But the OTP is such a thing of wonderfulness, and not just because all the invasions of personal space and silent looks and then kissing and making love are so hot. TPTB just give me such scenes of awesomeness between them! One of my favorite scenes is in ep 7 when he comes home after a horrible day and sees her come up with food for his sister and asks her to go into his room because he has something to discuss with her. So she goes in, and he comes in, and gets her to sit on the bed, and then sort of collapses on the floor by her, and quietly says 'I don't really have anything to discuss, can you just sit with me for a bit?' EEEEEEEE! And he leans his head against her knees and just sits like this, and then talks about the first time he saw his stepmom. And they just sit like this, and he falls asleep and she reaches and almost strokes his hair. EEEE
Or later, when she sees him sleep in his office, and comes in and stares, for the longest time, and covers him with his jacket, and he wakes up and holds on to her hand. Heh. And then there is a jealous scene :P He might be saying he has no love to give to any woman, but I am not buying it. And neither is he, seeing how he runs after her the next day and there is apologizing. I have to say, this is one of the most grown-up, functional OTPs I've seen in kdrama: they talk, and fight and make up, and he has plenty of issues (mainly his reserve and the fact that he has trust issues because of his family) but is functional and she is quiet but no pushover, really. YES.
I was also cracking up because at one point he asks her what her dream in life is and she says it's to draw until the day she dies and give the happy family to her children that she never had herself. And she is all 'this is so ordinary' but hero, with his psycho family, gloms onto it like a limpet. Seriously, though, it all makes sense. Before Heroine, the only person he had an emotional connection with was his sister but it's more of a parent/child relationship, not relationship of equals. And he is also very comfortable with her, and he is not a person comfortable around people, really.
I found this MV for the OTP on youtube. Clips aren't really great visual quality, but the cuteness is still there ;)
Please, someone, watch it with me, I want to discuss it!!!
Also, I am still in shock this has a happy ending. It has all the ingredients of 'Angsty Woobie finds love with Pure Woman, only to lose her in an agstily-lit scene' type drama. Which it apparently was going to be but they changed their mind, in part because they kept getting letters from the viewers begging them to give the OTP a happy ending.
I have also been promised a delicious 'he has to push her away for her own sake even though his heart is breaking' scene of total angst and wonderfulness. YES. That type of scene is my favorite.*
*Note: in RL, it is concievable that the hot, rich, withdrawn guy who ditches you in a cruel manner after you gave it up to him, is in fact a hot rich withdrawn jerk who was only interested in one thing and now that he got it, just wants to free himself from you ASAP. But in drama world, cruel rejection is merely proof of his love. YES. Much as I enjoy this sort of thing, I hope there isn't some subcontingent of women who took these dramas a little too much to heart and actually believe this in real life.

Date: 2008-01-31 05:32 pm (UTC)Hee! I was reading soompi today and it is very bad for my mind-set.
I think I am going watch this. I almost d-ld it on holidays but was sure the ending is bad. It is nice to know that fan letters sometimes matter.

Date: 2008-01-31 05:40 pm (UTC)Yup, I was SURE the ending was going to be depressing and didn't want to get into it, but I went around checking and sure enough, it was happy. I was even more shocked than when I found out the ending of One Fine Day is happy ;) I didn't want to watch all that misery just to end up with dead heroine.
This is a very fun drama. It's a bit slow, which is true for all older kdramas (I find that any kdrama made 2003 or earlier, is going to have bits designed for fastforward), but when the good bits are there, they are very very good.

Date: 2008-01-31 05:44 pm (UTC)I have Stairway to Heaven where she's with the lovely Kwon Sang Woo, and i think that cancer, blindness and corneas are mentioned!
btw, i think there is a youtube vid floating around of her playing some card game with the Kimura Takuya...very funny!

LOL. She seems to have a specialty in that, as she gets cancer in BD too! (I wonder if it's from being hit by a car as well :D as she is kocked down in first ep. Kdrama medicine is fascinating). But here she actually *gasp* recovers.

Date: 2008-01-31 06:02 pm (UTC)I love me some aloof hero with family issues and the way you describe it makes me want to go frolick on a beach.

Heeee, look at the cuteness (from later on):
it makes me want to go frolick on a beach.
Oh yes, I want to go frolick too, except a small part of me was all 'you are getting your clothes in the saltwater, it will ruin the nice fabric!' LOL

Hah! Down with pragmatism. If I'm scampering on a beach like a puppy, you're doing it too! ;)
If drama characters ever thought about their clothes, they'd never get anything done (they'd probably never leave the house to begin with).
