Legend: still utterly amazing
Jan. 27th, 2008 12:42 amYup, still obsessing and still liveblogging. I can't believe only two eps are left, I want this to go on forever.

Ep 20
DD plans a funeral for all those HG slaughtered. Both humane and clever.
'Sometimes I want to tie him up.' So do I, General darling, so do I.
'I will give you my life any time.' Awww, Evil Hottie, you so lurve Kiha. God knows why. I love that whole scene though.
Chuh Ro, sitting on the bridge. Yes please.
Funeral. I love how he is such a quiet, contained person but you can tell how much he hates this.
Yup, still unable to sleep. Oh, how Lymondish.
He is driving himself into the ground at this pace. And OMG OMG OMG he can't sleep even much worse than usual because when he closes his eyes he sees Sujini. ahgfgfhfhjfhfhfhgfgfg
I love the little scene of him eating and chatting with his soldiers.
The scene of DD talking to General, asking 'there is no one else there?' and then confessing his fear is just...'Every time, I am filled with fear.' OMG. One of the reasons I love DD so much, one of the reasons Legend works so brilliantly is no matter how far he comes, this never forgets he is a person, someone who is unsure and afraid and pushes on despite that and despite the heavy toll. And I love his General's response.
Loved the scene with Lord Yon and DD.
Khitan chieftain is hot.
Kiha just lied to Lord Yon that Ho Gae is the father of her baby!!!!!
Chuh Ro with two teeny urchins=adorableness.
He found her, eee! But she is shutting herself down, dying.
The scene with Chuh Ro and Sujini in the woods with fallen maple leaves, is arguably the prettiest thing I've ever seen. Ever.
'He told me to bring you to him' EEE. You know, I think Chuh Ro does love Sujini: as reincarnation of Sae-Ok, dream of whom (because of the symbol) was the only sane thing in his nightmare years, and because she was kind to him when they met. But he is not in love with her.
Jumuchi is back!!!
Ep 21:
I love that there is a streak of rebellion against heaven running through this. It's a sort of 'heaven should keep out of this, people should pick the king themselves.' This is what DD thinks, and someone as different as Lord Yon does too.
Lord Yon kills himself. And somehow I feel sorry.
Chuh Ro is still pretty.
Sujini won't go back :( DD, ride there and make her.
Another death-defying mission for DD for him to be able to survive sheerly on brains. Of course he is going to jump!
HE FLASHBACKED TO SUJINI AGAIN OMG YES
His burying the dead totally worked in his favor.
Who thought politics could be so interesting? Seriously, DD outpoliticking them is awesome. That whole scene with the tribes is incredible. You know, this is the most intelligent drama I've seen.
Ho Gae is no dummy. Oh, such a waste waste waste of all that talent and potential.
The scene with Ba Son and DD was amazing.
Sujini taking care of the wounded.
Ho Gae, antipsychotic meds do wonders, I hear.
The scene with Kiha and Ho Gae OMG. Kiha, you are insane. If you think you tell him you helped his dad kill himself and also, would he like to be the father of the baby she had with DD? UGH. diedieidididididie
Ho Gae has major abandonment issues.
OMG, the scene with Chuh Ro and Sujini where she asks him to go back and lie to DD about not finding her and her long description of how to take care for him, not let him be lonely and take him drinking etc...awwww.
Nooooo, don't kill Evil Hottie!
Nooooooooooooooooooo! DD has collapsed. That is what happens when you never sleep.
Ep 22.
He is sick oh no, and can barely walk omg but is still going to Ho Gae's encampment. You never take care of yourself and are working yourself to death, grrr, DD. That is why you need Sujini there, to knock some common-sense into you and make you get off your self-sacrifical horse.
The fight in Ho Gae's camp, is brutal and heart-breaking. I love Ho Gae telling his generals not to follow him any more.
Baby is born, blah blah.
Sujini learns Kiha is her sister and DD is the father and she goes temporarily berserk but she does decide to save the baby. Evil Hottie begs her to. I love you, Evil Hottie.
I take it back, I don't love you. Monster. You just killed a random innocent baby to fake out the Hwachun. DIEDIEDIE
Sujini >>>> Kiha. What else is new.
In a way, Kiha's situation now is like Sae-Ok's was 2000 years ago.
Oh, how twistedly fitting. Kiha thought her baby was dead and tried to kill Evil Elder but he used Evil Hottie as shield so she killed him instead as couldn't stop.
He didn't get a chance to tell Kiha the baby is alive. I'd feel worse if he didn't just kill a baby and if I didn't dislike Kiha in general.
DD is in Ho Gae's camp and Chuh Ro walks in and oh, the look on DD's face kills me, so hopeful despite the tight control, like he lights up from within. Because he expects to hear of Sujini. I am going to cry.
First thing out of his mouth, as he walks very fast to Chuh Ro is 'where is Sujini?' :(
The battle scene, with Ho Gae and DD fighting on the same side, for once, is AMAZING. I held my breath throughout. I loved the little almost-smile DD gives Ho Gae. Oh, how did it all go so wrong, how?
The scene with HG and DD afterwards is amazing, and their battle even more so. I can't even describe it, just take my word for it. Oh, how does this drama get better and better?
'Give me a reason not to kill you.'
'Reason? You killed my mother and father. You killed the heart of the woman I loved.'
Not true, any of it, but I can see why HG thinks so.
And he tells him to take his life. But DD doesn't! He exiles him.
JUMUCHI JUMUCHI JUMUCHI YOU SAVED DD WITH YOUR OWN BODY I AM NOT CRYING AM NOT I HATE YOU HO GAE.
Though not mortal hate as Jumuchi will recover.
Oh course, now DD will loathe himself even more.
Dalbi/Jumuchi cutest thing ever. And Jumuchi is the tiger guardian ee.
'Our king seems well enough physically, but I don't know about his heart.' I don't know why I am so emo tonight but this made me tear up, again. Because he is so exhausted, and uncertain, and lonely and self-loathing.
Chuh Ro tells DD about Sujini's request and her asking him to tell DD he didn't find her. DD's question is only 'if you went back to where you found her, would we find her again' but CR says he can never find her again :( OMG DD OMG OMG Sitting there grasping that vial and staring into nothing.
Kiha found Ho Gae and I love the whole quietness of it all, and Kiha's point that heaven cares nothing for her or HG, just as to how DD pass the trials. You never really do look at most stories from point of view of obstacles, do you? But here you do (but the thing is, DD shares Kiha's view of free will and the fact that men should shape their destinies alone not be controlled by heaven).
She tells him she wants to fight against heaven and make it so it can't interfere into affairs of men. And he says 'What would it gain us? If heaven departs from here than this world will merely be hell. I don't trust men. I see myself and how I've changed. How despicable and cruel we can be.'
Kiha being Kiha says she doesn't care if it's hell. And that is why I like Ho Gae but don't tolerate Kiha.
He will join her, though. Was there ever any doubt. Oh Ho Gae, you so should have fallen in love with a sweet, normal woman. If this drama had an American fandom, you'd be waist-deep in Mary Sues :)
You know, DD became a great king not because magicy symbols helped him much but because he was brave, intelligent, and yes, lucky. Which of course brings in the question of free will and heaven't interference/influence versus man's own ability etc etc. Oh, I could meta this to death.
Ohhhh, Chuh Ro tries to cheer him up by obeying Sujini's request and giving him a wine bottle :(
I think Ho gae and Kiha are now together eeeeeee. And they are in evil fortress.
Kiha, why do you trust any words of evil elder? Seriously.
*meep* EEEEEEEEEEEE! He is in the middle of war discussion when a random part of routine letter catches his attention and he stops dead because it uses a phrase Sujini used !!!!
OMGGGGGGGGGGGGG! Previews!!! Ho Gae touching Kiha's shoulder (they are so doing it, I don't care who says what). OMG, it's Sujini with long hair and she sees DD and watches him unobserved and he senses it and EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE! I will explode.
You know, I think these are getting less and less coherent as I go on :)
Picspams follow.

Date: 2008-01-27 10:16 am (UTC)I totally agree. I get no sense of jealously or anything like that from Chuh Ro. He just really cares for Sujini but who wouldn't.
"The scene of DD talking to General, asking 'there is no one else there?' and then confessing his fear is just...'Every time, I am filled with fear.' OMG. One of the reasons I love DD so much, one of the reasons Legend works so brilliantly is no matter how far he comes, this never forgets he is a person, someone who is unsure and afraid and pushes on despite that and despite the heavy toll. I love, love, love DD.
"I love that there is a streak of rebellion against heaven running through this. It's a sort of 'heaven should keep out of this, people should pick the king themselves.' This is what DD thinks, and someone as different as Lord Yon does too." "You know, DD became a great king not because magicy symbols helped him much but because he was brave, intelligent, and yes, lucky. Which of course brings in the question of free will and heaven't interference/influence versus man's own ability etc etc. Oh, I could meta this to death."
Yes, I was thinking the same thing. I hope you meta about this. I would love to read it. Both DD and Lord Yon and Kiha all want to do something with their own power. DD doesn't rely on the heavenly objects and power to win his battles. Elder Yon says that even if heaven chose DD, he will choose his son. Kiha is angry at a heaven that seemingly only cares about DD so she wants to make her own world. And at the end, you see the choice that DD makes which is in line with this theme. I like how when we get to see this idea worked through different angles, both with good and bad intentions.
"Chuh Ro is still pretty."
His hair and the blue streaks in it, perfect.
"Who thought politics could be so interesting? Seriously, DD outpoliticking them is awesome. That whole scene with the tribes is incredible. You know, this is the most intelligent drama I've seen."
Yes, and so tightly woven.
"The fight in Ho Gae's camp, is brutal and heart-breaking. I love Ho Gae telling his generals not to follow him any more."
There is this interesting character, the soldier with the red cape that chooses to follow Ho Gae despite his misgivings. He has good intentions, however misdirected, and is redeemed by his wonderful loyalty.
Jumuchi calls DD "my king" before he (almost) dies. Aww
I love Chuh Ro's face when faced with alcohol because he does not like it.
I realized that Chuh Ro is supposed to be older than DD because the day DD was born, the star rose and the heavenly objects came to life and the tiger clan went to all the places to find them and chuh ro was already ten by then. of course, by looking at him you wouldn't be able to tell. Maybe the thing in his heart kept his young. Teeheehee :P So I think Chuh ro is 27/28, DD 17/18, Sujini 18/19, kiha 24/27?, ho gae 17/18. Man, LOL.

Date: 2008-01-28 12:53 am (UTC)Exactly. And he is also 'bound' to DD, and he knows that DD is very interested in her (he entered the fortress by himself to rescue her) so that probably provides a further bond.
I like how when we get to see this idea worked through different angles, both with good and bad intentions.
I am currently in the middle of ep 24 (and taking a break because I do not want this drama to ever end, really) and yes, this theme of wanting independence from heaven is made all the more explicit in the following episodes. People shouldn't be doomed to repeat past destinies and what not, they shouldn't be bound by symbols, they shouldn't have power that isn't theira, 'unearned.'
There is this interesting character, the soldier with the red cape that chooses to follow Ho Gae despite his misgivings. He has good intentions, however misdirected, and is redeemed by his wonderful loyalty
Oh yes, I remember that scene and I really loved it. I love that even the 'bad guys' are people, which complex motives and emotions and thoughts. Except for Evil Elder, they are not all bad, they are people who are a combination of many many choices and they could have concievably ended up elsewhere.
Jumuchi calls DD "my king" before he (almost) dies. Aww
I thought I was going to hyperventilate because I thought he really did die and I was NOT HAPPY.
love Chuh Ro's face when faced with alcohol because he does not like it.
Heh. I love how he always remains an oddball, someone not comfortable with other people even though he seems to have been a normal enough kid. Because his situation was bound to leave him permanently affected.
Re: ages. They make no sense. I ignore whenever they mention them and just add 10 years to the age of the main 4. Because much as BYJ looks good enough to eat (and he does, I sort of space out sometimes) he does not look 17 (thank God :P) and neither do the actors for Ho Gae, Kiha or Sujini :P
I also can't buy a bunch of teenagers doing all that, so I pretend they are all older anyway, their age close to the way they look :)

Date: 2008-01-28 01:43 am (UTC)After finishing it in two days I have been experiencing severe withdrawal and your liveblogging as helped a bit. But I've been playing the OST over and over, dreaming, and wandering around the internet for something...I don't know what.

Date: 2008-01-28 02:09 am (UTC)It was amazing and I love it but now, other than uploading the caps for liveblogging, I don't know what to to with myself.
I can't think of anything similar to take the edge of the craving off.

Date: 2008-01-31 01:10 pm (UTC)I really liked Ho Gae, at the beginning and at the end. Usually I don't find a going-crazy second male attractive but he just so is (even when he is going crazy). Also when he and DD fought and Ho Gae finally told DD that his main aim was revenge I could relate. I liked that for both of DD and Ho Gae it wasn't about posdessing the four symbols or THE SPECIAL role or the POWER but for things I could understand and relate.
And Ho Gae's love for Kiha was just so heart-breaking.

Date: 2008-01-31 05:11 pm (UTC)I really liked Ho Gae, at the beginning and at the end.
Me too, for all the reasons you stated. And you are right, for Ho Gae it was never about kingship or sacred symbols, like it never was for DD, either. It was just a way to get other, very human things: revenge against DD, protection for Kiha. But even if he got revenge, I think he would have crumbled inside, because his one goal would have been gone but I doubt he would have felt better.
And he had nothing else. If Kiha truly loved him, she probably could have helped him transition to a happier place, but as it was...
