The Legend, eps 16-19

It's official. The Legend has replaced Mars as my favorite drama. I want to catch everyone and make them watch it.



Ep 16.

Now we have a scene with Kiha putting the armor on Ho Gae and what a contrast with the DD/Sujini scene. There, it was wonderful, not just because it was swoonily hot, but because it's an encapsulation of all their closeness and trust (you have to really trust someone to allow them to be in charge of the thing that will protect you in battle) and love (yes, acknowledged yet or not, what they feel now is love). Here, it's just disturbing because all you sense is HG's longing and need and Kiha's manipulative frost. But just as DD's progress, using brain and minimal force and kindness, contrasted with Ho Gae's type of victory: conquest-war, the end. No wonder his victory looks so bitter. But oh, oh, what kills me is he still has his soul, even if it's getting more and more bent and oh Ho Gae, just run far far away from all of this, OK?

The flashback conversation between Ba Son (blacksmith lady) and DD? I LOVE YOU DD. He will put the lives of his subjects above personal quest for power in the symbols and not even think about it OMG.

I love DD's counsel of war: couple of generals, a warlord, a mystic tribal leader and Sujini. Heee. And also, how much more egalitarian and less formal than Ho Gae's. Yes, there is rank there, but they are also friends (and if TPTB have any mercy on me, than also lovers, as far as DD and Sujini are concerned, at some point, please.)

DD is coming up with a brilliant plan to divert the whole of Baekje army but all I can think of is 'Oh God, you are so hot.' Yes. I literally blurted it out loud.

'When one is blind with greed for the throne, one cannot see the land or the people.' If that doesn't describe Ho Gae, I don't know what does.

Oh God. That scene with Jumuchi where DD admits his uncertainty, and how this decisiveness and certainty is a front, and how he doesn't have ability to fight alone like Chuh Ro (I'll stick to that spelling for Cheoro for now) but he is still King so he has to appear this way is just...he has such burdens and guuuh. I don't even know what I am trying to say except I love him. And then he says he sent Baekje soldiers back to protect other fortresses and has their families as hostages for good behavior and it's clear how much he hates himself for this. Yeah, poor woobie. Have a slice more of the self-loathing pie. It's your favorite.

Man, how awesomely screwed up is this: the fact that DD can actually ask someone (Jumuchi) to die with him (I assume if they fight in the battle and get offed) is a sign of his being healing psychologically, somewhat, from that nightmare of events he went through in ep 9.

Sujini's approach to possible 'stalker?' (not that he is stalking, he is in plain sight, so I suppose a 'follower'). Is to tell him she is going to take a bath in the stream and if he wants to watch to not watch from far but close, but that he might be disappointed. LOL LOVE.

Sujini is still gleeing that DD came to rescue her all by himself. So am I, girl, so am I.

The 'stalker' is Chuh Ro. And now I get a good glimse of his face. WHOA WHOA WHOA HE IS SIMPLY TO PRETTY TO EXIST. Oh man, if it wasn't for that pesky curse, he would have been knee-deep in ladies since puberty. Oh well, now you can catch up on lost time, hon! Just not with Sujini because she be DD's. In my deluded shipper dreams, anyway.

Heee, she is all thinking about his rescue all the time, lol. And now is all 'I gotta go back help him put his armor on.' In the middle of the night? LOL. Who can blame her, if I could, I'd be putting armor on him ten times a day :)

Oh, there is a night battle. Darn, there goes that fantasy.

Yay, the bluff paid off, DD (who was so tense and stayed up all night) looks so relieved. Love.

Kiha is being evil. What else is new.

Ilove DD's undesrstanding of Chuh Ro's mental state post-curse.

Heee, Sujini tells Chuh Ro's General to tell him she is waiting for him, to have a match against his spear skills. Heee. 'The loser pays for wine. We'll drink until our noses fall off.' I dunno if that's the best comparison to make to a dude who recently had no nose :)

Seriously, Chuh Ro is prettier than I am.

DD found out Kiha is the new Oracle and doing evil. I love how he isn't even surprised or disappointed any more, but a remnant of past relationship (if nothing else, of their childhood) remains, so it still hurts, if with a dull pain, but still pain.

Interesting, so each symbol is tied to a specific emotion.

Kiha is brilliant. Evil but brilliant, with her talk of will of heaven and how DD has to enter castle by himself to be purified you. Pity she didn't discover a brain before she went psycho.

&**&^^ is also going to have his army massacred? Just in case? I WANT TO STAB YOU UNTIL YOU DIE.

I think it's finally dawning on Lord Yon he mixed into something too big.

Did Ho Gae's army kill everyone in that village? I love how Ho Gae is sort of apart, with his back turned, not watching.

Ho Gae having those smiths killed to find out which is Ba Son's brother is the scariest thing ever.

He is so far gone, isn't he, but then that scene of his remembering Dalbi and 'why have I changed so?'. Seriously, get the hell away from there, Ho Gae. it's those glimmers of humanity in him that kill me, because something in him is still clinging to goodness and sanity, so hard.

Lord Yon so evil.



Ep 17

And now Lord Yon realized what sort of thing he invited in. I do not feel sorry for him.

Great, random priestess. Tell the evil psycho Kiha you want to thwart her plans. That's a secret to long life.

'I do not fear heaven because I am creating it' HUBRIS, Kiha. Can you spell it?

Chuh Ro is secretly with the army? EEE.

DD is grooming his horse. I am demented and gone but I find it hot.

It is both awesome and sad that DD is not even surprised by treachery any more but just anticipates it and is even, sadly and oddly amused by it. 'The strategy is to prepare for the worst.' Indeed.

Teacher points out about DD's troublesome habit to go off into danger by himself :)

Even Lord Yon wants to back out now. Heh. Not likely, stupid one.

DD riding into a death trap with few followers. Gee, I wonder who is at his side. Is it Sujini? :)

The scene with him and Lord Yon is incredible.

Most. Expressive. Face. Ever.

Oh God, the scene with DD and Kiha is 17 kinds of painful and is so amazing. How changed they both are, how love and friendship are gone, but memories and connections linger. But you know what is even more amazing? it flashbacks to ep 7 and I am totally o_O at the difference in DD. He obviously doesn't look very different but you can tell how much he's experienced and grown and changed since then. Whoa. Mad props to BYJ.

'I had a little bit of hope left in me, that is why I came. But now it's over. I am done with you.' It's been over for a long time, but yes, this is the final nail in the coffin. I refuse to admit I sort of got wet-eyed. I never liked Kiha or DD/Kiha but this is all such a bloody waste, poor DD. Not so poor Kiha, who seems to revel in being a martyr, when she isn't one, but is a monster instead.

DD demonstrates his brain and pragmatism again, which is the sexiest thing about him. I love Sujini trying to warn him Hwachun (Tiger Tribe) don't fight honorably and he replies they won't either because they only fight honorably against foe who will do the same. YES.

Fight scene is awesome. And he totally watches Sujini fight :) Mmm.

Hwachun totally underestimate DD. What else is new? Seriously, he took your assassin squad out by himself and now he has some men and also a good deal of battle experience. Man is scary dangerous when he wants to be.

Mmm, he totally looks at her once fight is done, too. EEEE! Oh, and she also has a look thing with Chauh Ro. Character and relationship development during fight scenes. This is the best drama ever.

Capping these fights is a bitch, they are so fast.

General: 'Where were you.'
DD: 'I had to go rob an empty house.'

The scene with DD and Evil Elder and Lord Yon? Best scene so far.

SUJINI IS ALWAYS AT HIS BACK NO MATTER WHAT WHERE HOW. I love this. They could seriously conquer hell together.

He is buying his cabinet from Hwachun with scared symbols. Why? I'd let the ingrates die. Ugh.

One way to set him berserk: have someone die for him or try to.

THAT FIGHT WAS THAT FIGHT THAT FIGHT THAT FIGHT!!!!!!!!!

Chuh Ro gets rid of Evil Elder OMG.

Aww, Ho Gae. You are almost full into insane/evil land, but yeah, you still miss DD.

OMG, preview with the Sujini/DD hug has me dead!!!!!!!!!!! That's period drama equivalent of third base!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Btw, you know I can't really see any more whether BYJ is objectively good-looking or not. The charisma and my love for DD's character has sort of made me irrational. It's sort of Shahrukhian or KimuTakian, here.




Ep 18:

Julno Elder's brilliant plan to relax DD: adopt S as his daughter and then remind DD his dad told him to marry Julno's elder's daugher. HHHeeee. you are a shipper too.

Oh, I can tell my heart is going to be broken.

And it is. As Sujini finds out about the phoenix thing and how she is watched over to be killed if needed and she can never have DD and seriously, Teacher Dude, shut UP!!!

DD finds her drinking in the counsel chamber. That scene is the most gorgeous, sweetest, loveliest scene ever. OH. OH. OH. He doesn't know about the phoenix either: it would seem to him, probably as if the symbols now decided to take away both women he loved/s, just as fight over them took away so much other stuff.

symbols of legend just are symbols, and DD's point is awesome, that they shouldn't want just any king who can wield them, but a good one.

DD explaining his vision of trade empire and built through diplomacy, not based on death and war and revenge but brains, eeee! Contrast with Ho Gae's bloody battles.

EEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!! Chuh Ro. Still messed up (oh, I just want to hug him and make it all better), still interested in Sujini and still HOT!!!!!!!!!!

EEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!! The only good thing when he was a 'demon' were the dreams. he saw 2000 years ago, same dream over and over. And he saw Sae-Ok!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! No wonder he is so fixated on Sujini. OMG.

When he sits and watches her? I died. If I didn't ship DD/S so hard, I'd switch.

EEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!!!!! DD finally had enough. Unless HG returns asap, DD will consider him guilty of high treason (which he has been guilty of for years :P)

Lovely plan, Evil Elder. If Kiha's kid is a boy, take his heart to unleash the symbols as it has the blood of jooshin. Lovely. You must be popular at parties. Not sure if Evil Hottie will carry it out though.

The scene with DD having to grasp the table in anger when asked if he still loves Kiha was awesome. And his response 'are you asking me if I still love a woman who killed my father and the Oracle?' Heh. And Sujini's silent overheard relief.

He hopes HG will refuse to come back and become an insurgent then he can go crush him and also earn loyalty of people HG invaded eeeeeeeeeeeeeee! Machiavelli has nothing on you, DD. And he tells all of this to Lord Yon, blandly.

Eeee, love the scene of Sujini and Chuh Ro. He is so still getting used to normalcy.

Sujini dragged Chuh Ro on her trip to Kiha. he wants to kill her to avenge her parents. Her intro 'he looks a bit dumb but he is the overlord of Gwanmi fortress. [on refusing to give up weapons] He can't even sleep without the spear. can he keep it?' made me LOL

Fight...and Kiha finally remembers.

HELLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL. The freaking PREVIEWS for 19 made me cry.

OMG, he is yelling. He almost never raises his voice. SO ANGRY AND MUST SEE HER NOW. OH YES I AM ALL HORMONAL OVER IT.

He can't go looking for her any longer because of the Khitan business (and I love how his general literally has to tell him this, slowly like to someone who is too single-minded to reason). So Chuh Ro will go and the scene where DD is giving him instructions MADE ME FLAIL AND BREAK OUT ALL CAPS AGAIN

Now someone not Sujini is putting on his armor and you can tell who he is thinking of and his hands liger at his belt, where she held on.

Outsiders came very close, but ultimately the ending lost it that spot (not that the ending didn't work, it just wasn't the kind of ending that would get a drama my top place). However, I couldn't stand the suspence any more and watched the ending of Legend somewhere around ep 18 and thought it was perfect, so this is going to stick.

it's a period drama though, and has a lot of battles and politics. Which I like but I know isn't everyone's cup of tea.

I love DD's wisdom, bravery, and honesty. But his honesty is not foolish.

I wish you could understand the korean (or do you?) because english translations lose the subtly and various hidden meanings and the different forms that DD uses that says so much about his character.

BTW, I remember reading in your other entries in which you wondered how Evil hottie got the face mask thing. He was actually hurt or burned when they first abducted Kiha from her family home. When Evil Elder marks Kiha on the back with the sign of the tiger clan, you can see evil hottie's bloody face. And back then he didn't have white hair. So how old is he supposed to be?

And those cheekbones. Mmmm...This drama certainly spoiled me with overabundance of attractiveness. Clearly to be a Lord back then, you had to be hot.

Sujini had some awesome moves. Wonderful, wonderful, fight scene.

I think my favorite part was DD in that circle in the Hwachun house. mmmm.

I wish you could understand the korean (or do you?) because english translations lose the subtly and various hidden meanings and the different forms that DD uses that says so much about his character.


Unfortunately I don't (I wish I did). I am not surprised at missing this stuff though because when I see subs for Russian things, they can never capture all the nuances of the original.

But that scene, seriously, killed me dead.

the armor scene of The Legend reminds me of the armor scene of "The Last Samurai". You know, when the japanese woman was putting on Tom Cruise's armor for him? Is there a significance? You know with women putting on men's armor? I never really researched on it.

I don't know the significance. Hmmmm. It is very symbolic though, isn't it? She is basically making sure he is protected in battle. You have to trust someone absolutely to allow them to be the one responsible for that.
