Since I've been doing them sporadically, and they are untagged, I decided to have one post linking them all, by fandom:
Harry Potter: In case you've been living under a rock, HP involves a Boy Wizard fighting the dread Lord Voldemort with help of friends while attending magic school. Somehow this involves a lot of student-teacher sex and indiscriminate pairings. here, here
Star Wars: Once again, for those under a rock, in a Galaxy far, far away, the Jedi fight the Sith, with Anakin Skywalker falling to the Dark Side but his son Luke eventually redeeming him. In the middle of this drama, there is plenty of time for Mary Sues and mpreg. here, here
Lord of the Rings: Hobbit and companions go on a quest to rid Middle Earth of an evil ring. Somehow this results in a huge gay orgy. here
Rouroni Kenshin: a warrior seeks redemption in 19th century Japan. If you are into this because you love history, find another fandom as the teenyboppers are too lazy to research and thus 90% of the fanfic is more likely to involve Mariah Carey than katanas. here
Buffy: a Slayer fights vampires and other baddies with help of friends. Alas, she cannot vanquish the atrocious spelling and worse plots of her fanfic followers. here
Moulin Rouge: involving a tragic love affair between a poet and a whore, this fandom attracts 14-year olds who think they are deep and poor out their deepness in atrociously-spelled drivel. here
Eragon: involving a boy and his dragon, this is a fandom that is most likely to get one to scream "stautory rape!" here
Matrix: the real enemy are the fanfic writers who are too dim to be batteries. here
Pirates of the Caribbean: Word fail. here
Also, I've done a very dangerous thing and falllen for the sidekick in Eragon. For one thing, he doesn't scream 'statutory,' and for another, he is a well-put together guy whose father was evil and he rebelled. I can smell issues 10 miles away. With my luck he will be killed soon and I will be left only with dull Eragon to follow.

Date: 2005-06-24 12:02 am (UTC)That, and I'm very curious as to what your various abbreviations mean. OOC, AU, et. al. I've been very confused (and yet... even more entertained). w3rd.

Date: 2005-06-24 04:23 am (UTC)OOC=Out of Character. A fanfic where for no reason Simran is a raging slutty bitch.
I'd be glad to recommend fic, but for which fandom and what kind of stories?

Date: 2005-06-24 07:22 pm (UTC)LOL on the use of DDLJ as a reference point. Is there a lot of Bollywood fanfic out there? Other than on the BollyWHAT board, of course ;-)
I really do like Harry Potter, and I think I like Star Wars parodies better than the originals (read: I'll read funny Star Wars stuff, because I will NEVER take that seriously after the travesty that is Episode III).
I forgot what else I would read, but if you recommend it, I'll give it a chance.
Unrelated, but that iharthdarth comic journal is the cutest thing I ever saw this week! I want to take the little Darth Vader home and introduce him to my goldfish. d00d! Can Darth Vader breather underwater???

Date: 2005-06-24 08:31 pm (UTC)I don't think there is any BW fanfic out there that's not on BWhat. Alas...
I don't know about a real fandom help guide, but I am going to look up a hilarious parody on for Harry Potter for you.
There is some good HP fanfic. Preferences? (e.g. Harry paired with Ginny, or Ron paired with Hermione, or fic about Marauders, or what?)

Date: 2005-06-26 01:15 am (UTC)Also, as for types of fanfics (like... genres, I suppose) - doesn't matter. What matters is that it's well-written, to me.
Hey, have you written any good fanfic? :-D
(Did I use your fanfic terminology correctly?)
