Just a heads up.

After I finish the insanity of Gundam Wing and the prettiness of Romeo and Juliet, I think my next animes will be Please Save My Earth, Gun x Sword and X 1999.

And I need a Trigun rewatch.

Any other suggestions?

I am especially interested in X 1999. Look at the prettiness:

Plot sounds cool (from wiki):

The story takes place in the year 1999. The end of the world is fast approaching as superhuman individuals gather and take sides in the city of Tokyo, site for the battle of Armageddon. The series follows Kamui Shirō, a young man who returns home to Tokyo after a six-year absence to protect those dearest to him and fulfill his mother's dying wish. X is Kamui's heroic journey,[4] where the narrative places an emphasis on his choices and how they affect the world around him as he attempts to reconcile his roles as savior and destroyer.

Speaking of anime, how odd, I found a MV for X that is to a Russian song. Which gives me cognitive dissonance.

I like X 1999 quite a bit. I prefer the manga version, but the authors abandoned the WIP. *seethes*

It might help a bit if you watch/read Tokyo Babylon first. Or any other work by CLAMP (beside Card Captor Sakura), to get a feel for their style.

I've watched Tsubasa and liked it. Thanks for the heads up on TB!

X is amazingly pretty and is stuffed as full of imagery and has so much melodrama you need a spoon. It also has one of the 2 moments of supreme angst in my anime watching(the other is in Wolf's Rain)

I like X, and was really wrapped up in it when I watched, but it's kinda a guilty pleasure. Since you're reading Tsubasa, you'll recognize...well, pretty much every character in it.

As far as after that...do you have Witchhunter Robin or Wolf's Rain? There's also the third Saiyuki series(which I haven't seen yet myself, but...)

This makes me very happy. Heh.

I actually stopped with Tsubasa because got bored. Dunno why.

Haven't seen WR or W'sR. More interested in the latter, but doesn't it have werewolves?

I thing you'll like X.

Wolf's Rain...they aren't werewolves, but it's hard to ecplain. Or rather, I could explain, but you'd think it was weird. Yet, in the show, it doesn't seem remotely odd or weird. It's very much a fairy tale and approached as such...ever notice how you never question the impossible or the odd in fairy tales? Same thing.

This post(which is mostly a picspam of the main OTP of the show) has my feeble attempt at explaining it: http://meganbmoore.livejournal.com/225893.html

My favorite character, though, is Darcia, who has some of the most impressive anime angst and manpain ever(and a few of his scenes are amoung the rare scenes that are so traumatic(for the character) and real angst that it actually gets hard for me to watch them.

Meanwhile, Duo has actually said that he'll take a page from Heero's book, and tried to blow himself up(except that for once, the suicide attempt actually made sense and was halfway the smartest route)

Re: Duo. Clearly, the crazy is contageous.

Oooooh, WsR looks very pretty. Sold.

WR is very pretty. Honestly, it's my favorite anime, and probably the main reason I got into anime(as an obsession, as opposed to an occassional thing)

Duo...I'm not sure, actually. It actually made sense, in the context that there really was no way out but to either hand his gundam over to the enemy or to blow it up. But then he mentioned Heero, which reather ruined the effect(unlike Heerom though, he was relieved it didn't work)

Duo, the shining beacon of sanity, despite the unfortunate hair.

I got into anime because of Escaflowne :)

Escaflowne is...very mixed for me. On the one hand, I absolutely adore Van and like the mythology and the overall story, on the other hand, it's probably why I dislike mecha(had FMP or Samurai Seven been my first exposure to mecha, I may have liked it. In Escaflowne's case, all I could do was wonder why a wonderful fantasy story had everyone stomping around in giant ugly robots.)

Duo has, comparatively less unfortunate hair. There's far worse, even in GW. It could be like Wu Fei's braid, and clearly be cutting off all circulation to his brain and giving him migraines.)

I heard Gun x Sword had a lame ending, but from what I saw of it, it was cool. That and Gankutsuou are on my To Finish list. ;)

Hmmm, couldn't get through Gankutsuou as animation style wasn't my thing at all.

I've wanted to get into anime for years and from time to time have watched some of the anime i could get my hands on AND loved it. BUT if a gal like me wants to get even more into the greatness of anime, what would you recommend dear?

What sort of thing would you like? Romantic, fighting, prettily animated?

Hmmm....

Let me think.

I'm pretty much to anything, but I would probably need the romance put into it, otherwise I lose some of the interest. I love prettily animated. And I don't mind when the story becomes I bit dark :)

X is great even though the 3 main characters start to grate very early on. It's worth it anyway, if only for the Seichirô/Subaru storyline, which is epic and violent and beautifully melodramatic. Did I mention that Subaru Sumeragi was my favourite character from the whole Clampverse?

As for Please Save my earth, the anime was unpalatable for me after reading the manga.

Have you checked out Honey and Clover? It's a gem of an anime.
And Utawarerumono?
Since you like strong, no nonsense heroines, you might like Saiunkoku Monogatari. The smarm of bishônen is a very enjoyable plus ;).

So many awesome animes out there, so little time :)!

Hee :)). I knew you'd love it!
Smart heroine, boys with long hair, swordfights, roooomance. What's not to love really?

I think you'll really like X 1999. It's among the first anime series I ever watched, and the first that wasn't an epically-long series (ie, it had an ending). The CLAMP style was a little difficult to get used to, but the music and the storyline are pretty effective. Not to mention the ANGST. Because, oh boy, there is lots of it.

Meh. Prepare to be a bit disappointed by Please Save My Earth. Beautiful art, beautiful music, really interesting characters, etc--but they squeeze, like, dozens of manga into six episodes, and none of the stories really get finished, and they don't even have time to get to the ending, and all in all you're left pissed off at a lot of people and confused by its incredibly facile notion of "fate."

It may still be worth it for the prettiness, however.

Yeah. It's a good story with a lot of promise and interest--they just don't have time to resolve any of the set up, sadly.
