Finished Full Metal Panic

dangermousieAnd what a super-cute ending it was. After all that mayhem and death and fighting and destruction (Chidori will have quite an interesting time if she has to write 'what I did during my holidays' report), Sousuke takes her to his secret fishing spot. And she tells him she only has 40 minutes until her flight and he says that's fine, because after all, taking her here was the purpose of the trip. So it turns out this was his plan all along, so he really was asking her out, in his inimitably off-kilter way, and he tells her matter of factly this was the goal of the trip but they kept getting detoured. And that completely side-swipes me. And she is so pleased. And he tells her that when he is with her he always feels as if he can catch the biggest fish or escape from deadly danger and then her line goes crazy and the anime ends with them trying to reel in whatever that monstrous thing ("maybe it's a whale?" "I can't deny the possibility" ROFL) and it's all so adorable, I want to squish them and pet them and give them carrots (oh wait, they aren't rabbits).
But my favorite part was where he is having PTSD flashbacks to Helmajistan and it screws him up during the mission and he is completely falling apart afterwards because he froze, and Melissa got hurt, and Kaname, who accidentally learned just how bad his last mission was, tries to talk to him and he walks by without registering her and she follows and they have a huge row. Well, actually she tries to be good and comfort him but he loses his temper and lashes out (and it's pretty impressive Kaname can make him lose his temper. That's quite a feat. I think it's because he is so much more emotionally open around her). And he says some pretty hurtful things so she runs off crying and Kurz, who's heard the whole thing, walks in and punches Sousuke (!!!) But when Kurz tells Sousuke he made Chidori cry, Sousuke snaps out of it and is horrified and is hunting for her to apologize. While she is hiding all miserable. Eeeeeee. Can this thing get any better? Of course it can, because then the evil terrorists attack and I love that he disobeyed orders for Chidori, again. And he finds her as she is being attacked by one of the bad guys, and she is putting up a pretty good fight and he attacks the bad guy and kills him, but when he turns to Chidori, she is in shock and all she is thinking about is that she is a burden on him yet again (some fight they had, that's for sure). And Sousuke apologizes and tells her that if it wasn't for her he'd be dead by now (which is true) and that statement gets proven as the battle gets absolutely crazy and she uses the Black Technology and they make a pretty effective fighting team. Oh, and the bad guy finally dies (and Sousuke actually loses his temper again (at the bad guy) which is awfully cute). Ahhhh, Kaname and Sousuke. These crazy kids always get their emo on in battle.
Also, learning how Melissa first met Kurz and Sousuke was hilarious, and JKurz proves (again) that despite being a perv, he is totally cool and good under fire. And the bingo scene with Tessa was hilarious, even though her little-girl voice drives me nuts. And Sousuke blowing all of the school budget to build a very secure gate, and Chidori hopefully packing a scanty bikini on her trip. Heeee.

Date: 2006-04-05 03:36 pm (UTC)I think Chidori is the only outlet for Sousuke's emotions which is why she takes the brunt of them a lot of the time. It's not that he's mad at her, he's just MAD and she's the only one who can tap into any emotions from him so he lashes out at her.
And I do love Kurz. Goober though he may be, he's still a good guy and when push comes to shove is a gentleman in his own weird way.
On a completely different note, I was reading RK in the book store yesterday and got laughing at Aoshi's butt bow. I'm sorry, it will never not be funny.

Yup. Though as Husband said, if only he was better behaved, Melissa would have surely slept with him by now, because he is cute and available and she is wild. But not with his behavior :P

That's true. After the mission, he just sits there stewing and unable to process or express all the mess of emotions he is feeling but she keeps pushing and pushing and he can't put up his walls when she is around so it all comes spilling out, and of course she is the one around so she gets all of it. At once. But I do love that he cools down quicky and snaps out of it and hunts for her to apologize. He really is an awfully nice guy.

Date: 2006-04-05 04:08 pm (UTC)I personally think a lot of his behavior is because he's just not serious about any girl at this point and also it's how he copes. He actually seems better adjusted than Melissa. He's not quite as goofy in the manga.

That's why I love Sousuke. He's one of the few animales that were they real guys I'd date them (Tamaki, Sano from HK, Kakashi, and Ban are the other ones). He's just such a sweetheart. There honestly isn't a mean bone in his body.
The butt bow never made it to the anime. I don't think he ever had an opportunity to wear the outfit that has it.

Date: 2006-04-05 04:10 pm (UTC)I guess that's a blessing. The latest volume of RK manga that I saw in the store (granted, it was a month ago) dealt with Aoshi discovering that Kaoru wasn't really dead and it was a puppet, so it's pretty far along.

He's just such a sweetheart. There honestly isn't a mean bone in his body.
He is just so nice. Usually, I like my characters less 'good' but he is just so earnest and decent, it's hard not to fall for him.
