Enchanted (no spoilers)
Nov. 26th, 2007 12:23 amJust got back from Enchanted which was totally adorable.
Enchanted is a Disney movie about a typical animated Disney princess (Amy Adams) who, one the day of her wedding to True Love Prince Edward (James Marsden) is sent into the real world by Edward's Wicked Stepmother (Susan Sarandon). She ends up in the mysterious...New York City and her paths cross that of a dishy, doesn't-believe-in-love-any-more single dad, divorce lawyer (Patrick Dempsey). Hilarity, havoc and true love follow.
It was AWESOME. No wonder it's 93% fresh on Rotten Tomatoes.
I still can't truly get used to the fact that Patrick Dempsey is sexy (I keep thinking of his 1980s movies where he played a total dweeb) but the fact is his rumpled professional character is darn near irresistable here. Amy Adams is awesome, awesome, awesome. Why have I never seen her in anything before? Oh, and James Marsden? THUD. He has clearly made a career of playing a 'prince charming' type who loses the girl's heart to the hero of the movie (The Notebook, Superman Returns, even X-Men movies a little, though I am a total Cyclops/Jean shipper) and this is yet another one of those roles, but he is so funny and so goofily adorable here, that if Giselle doesn't want him, I do. Mmmmmmm....
This is probably the first American movie in years where I bought the romantic comedy (a genre that has pretty much been dead here for years). But it worked. I laughed and I sighed with equal gusto. Oh, and the scene at the ball? Pure kdrama awesomeness, girls and boys.
Anyways, this is super-great. Go watch.

Poor Marsden though...so hot yet always coming in second place for being a nice guy...
I hope I like this whenever I finally get around to seeing it(keeping in mind that the last romantic comedy i've seen in years that i liked was "how to lose a guy in 10 days" and even that i had problems with)

Date: 2007-11-26 05:41 am (UTC)Logan/Jean is really more in the minds of the fans in both comic and movies...the entire point is that Logan's wild side appeals to Jean, but she loves Scott utterly, while a good thing he can't have brings out his human side. If you take out all the shippers, that's really all there is to it in the movies, too. It's just that comic fans have had 20+ years to say that it should be logan/jean because it's bad boy/good girl.

Date: 2007-11-26 02:25 pm (UTC)LOL. This is totally my quote of the day.
But yeah, I totally liked Cyclops/Jean, for one because I go for good boys, but for another, the whole angsty thing with not being able to take his visor off and thus having to always be in total control of yourself, is really hot.

Date: 2007-11-26 06:44 am (UTC)Patrick Dempsey - I never understood his appeal at ALL when I saw pictures of him. Then I saw him in Grey's Anatomy, and McDreamy is so bloody charming that you can't help but like him, and think he is sexy. Damn him.
I only know Amy Adams from The Wedding Date, and she was a totally irritating character in that, and got to kiss Jack Davenport. SIGH.
X Men - I ship Jean/Logan. I know. I'm a loser. James Marsden is still pretty though, and totally the 'prince charming' type. I really liked him in Gossip though - playing out of his usual type.
Thanks for the review - makes me even more eager to see this!

Date: 2007-11-26 02:24 pm (UTC)I saw Wedding Date, but it was so horrific, I must have blocked whole chunks of it out of my memory out of sheer self-preservation. The book was cute if chick-lity, but the movie? *shudder*

Date: 2007-11-26 06:47 pm (UTC)Gossip is about these three college students who decide to experiment with how rumours work, and things get really out of hand. One of the first things I saw Marsden in, and he was brilliant.

Date: 2007-11-26 07:40 am (UTC)Susan Sarandon was TOTALLY rocking! She looked terrific.
And Marsden. Double Thud. Those SLEEVES alone.
Iimothy Spall was less revolting than usual. I took a raging dislike to him in 1987 for Gothic and haven't liked any of his roles since.
(and I'm a Pyro?magneto shipper. I'll just wait in the truck...)
