Mr. Mousie's view of Martha:

"She is annoying."

Heh.

Two eps in, I was neutral on Martha, with a mild like. If it keeps going like ep 3, I'll end up disliking her. Seriously. Mainly because there is no dramatic tension. Though more likely because she just doesn't have a strong presence. Tennant is kinda a crazy whirlwind, and she can't keep up.

Oh well.

The third episode of Doctor Who was rough in general. Seriously. BORING. Except for the stuff about Gallifrey in the beginning, and stuff with face of Boe at the very end, I was bored bored BORED. Were the writers on vacation that day?

I really find it interesting that the Doctor is completely shut down with Martha. She has to drag anything personal out of him with plyers. He keeps deflecting. Probably because he got burned getting close and personal before. I wish I could sympathize with her, but I don't get a strong sense of anything out of her. Also, if her biggest problem is that a cute guy she recently met and might like isn't sharing his deep dark secrets with her? Welcome to the human race.

And ohhhh, the bit when she is all 'did the face of Boe mean you are not alone because you have me?' and he is all flatly 'no.' Heh. She keeps flirting and it's not taking. Clearly the Doctor is not the only one not really familiar with the term 'rebound.'

But seriously. I know we can't have Rose back. Fine. But either give Martha some interesting personality or I am going to spend this season waiting for Donna next season. Or a Jack appearance. Or the Master. Whoever. Someone to bounce of Tennant, at least.

Martha is what caused me to finally like Ten. There. I said it.

I'm one of the minority who found Rose increasingly annoying as hell. (actress or character? I'm honestly not sure.) So Martha was a breath of fresh air. She definitely had a lag time to catch her footing, but by the end of the series, well, I was all sniffley in the last couple episodes. Her growth, and school-girl ike crush on the Doctor had me looking at him in new eyes. By the time I hit Blood Family, I was completely head over heels about *both* of them.

All I can see about this Donna fiasco is WTF? Donna? hey are seriously going to subject us to Donna? Kill. Me. Now.

Heh. We clearly have the completely opposite taste in companions. I loved Rose and can't wait for Donna but am very meh about Martha. I guess that is why there is so much variety...

yep, i'm very much not tolerant of the "you are the only reason for my living and being in existence" shtick. honey, grow up, get a spine, and learn some independence in the world. cling-film is for food storage, not for relationships. (well, unless you want an interesting saturday night. . .)

i think the contrast to that was what i loved about the return of Sarah Jane (never saw the earlier series with her in it, so don't know what she was like as an actual companion). she admits the hurt and anger of being dumped, but she learned form her experiences, picked herself up, and forged on with the strength and cunning she learned from her time as a companion. Micky, too, really took his time to grow and become bad-ass and seized the opportunity to break away from being the dog.

but there is Rose, a useless pile of sniveling "what about me?" on the beach. let's see, she's a) alive, b) had her family, and c) has been gifted with one of her greatest desires, her father alive in and in her life. but because the ride has ended (hello, it was going to end sometime) she's all "my life is over. i think i'll sit here and die now." ::rolls eyes::

i know, i know, i'm harsh, but the chick never wanted to do anything in her actual life before the Doctor. i just can't stand that lack of drive or making something more of yourself. she has the perfect chance now to be something more, something better than she would have been and she is just wasting it.

and sadly, i see the same damn thing in Donna the Utterly Stupid. dead end life, lack of self-confidence, and complete lack of brains. i keep wondering if i need to go back and rewatch that special because everyone else is all "oooh, Donna! she's so funny!" and i'm thinking i saw a different episode. all i remember was it was sheer hell to watch it, and the only thing that made it better was i was seriously hoping she was going to be eaten at the end.

wow. talk about pre-caffeine crankiness. sorry 'bout that. i'm still all sniffley over the season finale, i guess. ::wanders off to get some coffee::

nevertheless, it's always fun to watch the different reactions folks jhave. and hey, i finally, finally came around to Ten. i'm still a Nine girl, but Ten is okay now and i'm no longer sulky the entire time i watch, complaining it isn't Nine. :)

Seriously, Donna annoys me. I know a lot find her funny, but after 5 minutes I needed ear plugs. Not looking forward to her in season four at all. I've only seen a couple eps of season one so I'm not sure how I feel about Rose as a whole, but so far she's ok.

i liked Rose in season 1, but probably because of Nine. :) her relationship with the Doctor and her attitude changes with Ten, and it just seemed to build to an incredibly annoying level. like i said, it may have been the actress grating on me as well as the character.

which bodes oh so well for Donna as I find Catherine Tate downright obnoxious.

I love Donna but to each their own. That level of noise is for the par in my family :)
