Just got back from The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford and wow...

wow...

wow...

We just sat in the theater after it was over and talked about it the whole walk back.

Long meta to follow, but for now I am sort of incoherent and also it's 2am. I think it's my favorite movie in the last three years or so.

Seriously. I've never seen anything quite like it.

P.S. Whoever came up with the trailer/concept/movie for 'P.S. I love you?' UGH. This was the sappiest, silliest, most cringe-inducing, scarrine-full thing ever, and it was only a three minute trailer. I can only imagine *shudder* what the movie would be like.

So...what is P.S. I love you and how bad does it look.

And I am giddy at how many westerns are popping up of late.

I had to look up the trailer: http://youtube.com/watch?v=d6PLtVJ_VJM

Basic concept is that there's a lady whose perfect husband dies, but leaves her letters where he tells her what to do so she can move on and get past his death. It's pretty dreadful in itself, and the book sucked (even as a fan of chicklit I say this) and the movie looks possibly ten times worse.

I was forced to stop in order to preserve my braincells after a minute.

As far as the plot goes: Heaven forbid she actually manage to move on and get over his death herself...such a good thing he had the foresight to think for her and leave her carefully scheduled letters.

Well, we all know little woman couldn't take care of herself. Ugh.

Yup. I don't read chicklit, really, but...isn't the point supposed to be the OPPOSITE of that message?

But yeah, his not thinking she could make it through on her own kinda makes you wonder if he loved OR respected her...

Also, a letter or a message? Sweet. Detailed life plan? Not so sweet. Also, shouldn't he have been spending time WITH her instead of writing her scribblies?

Letter arranged to be sent after death: sweet and an attempt to help in what will doubtless be a difficult time.
series of letters with detailed life plan: beyond the grave control freak who apparently thinks his wife is spineless, brainless and cannot cope.

That it's 2 actors I respect(though I'm not really big on either) only makes it worse.

I read the book because I like crappy chicklit but omfg, one of the most annoying chicklit books I've ever read and I do not understand how anybody could've put it down, feeling satisfied, even if they're like me and enjoy some cheesy chicklit every now and then.

It was just so pretentious in it's sugary "inspiringness" (or as I like to call it, fucktardiness). All the characters were stereotypical (not a bad thing necessarily) and fake and annoying and dfgsjdfgs hated it.

I like silly chicklit, but that just looked like chicken soup for the retarded soul.

Ugh.

I just watched the trailer for P.S. I Love You on youtube.

Hillary Swank, fire your agent now! That looks so horrid.

seriously, it's horrific.

I am also puzzled as to why they put that trailer before the Jesse James movie. I couldn't think of two more dissimilar audiences :)

I've been told the original book was only published because the author's the daughter of the prime minister (or equivalent) of Ireland.

i actually liked P.S. I Love You - the book. i thought it was sappy-ish, but it was a great read. i think they tweaked the movie though....

Michael Clayton has been getting great reviews here.

Its depiction of law has little to do with reality though :)

Oh well...it's supposed to be really good regardless.

I've really been wanting to see this. So far, it's not in any theaters around, but we always end up with the smaller stuff eventually.

I might, someday, rent P.S. I Love You, if only for the Jeffrey Dean Morgan action.
