I am very scared now.

A school withholds diploma from a graduating High School student because he wore a bolo tie to graduation.

An eight-year old is suspended because apparently a chicken finger is a deadly weapon.

And in the most scary and insane incident of all, a student is suspended for wearing a Pepsi t-shirt on a Coke day.

I weep for humanity!

Private or home schooling seems like a better idea every day.

The Pepsi shirt one is waaaaaay old. I remember hearing it when I was in grade school. Notice there's no date on the article.

Zero tolerance policies are stupid. I was interested to learn from one of the follow-up posts to the chicken-finger one (an old story, I remember when it happened) that 0 tolerance is a "liberal conspiracy" LOL! Silly me, I thought it was bipartisan stupidity. Honestly, *that* attitude (that *anything* stupid must be totally the result of whatever political persuasion isn't your own) scares me way more than stupid school rules.

Our local area is generally pretty liberal, and the public schools do not have 0 tolerance policies. Discipline and punishments at the high school are actually remarkably sensible. The most difficult part is that they're sometimes forced to accommodate kids who have serious problems, simply because there is no room at the one county alternative school.
