OMG. Such cheese. The powers of youtube have beeen kind to me indeed.

Anyone who loves incredible cheese, cool dresses and hot guys? You are set.

I just found out that Barbara Carland's *yikes* novel, Hazard of Hearts has been turned into a movie in the 1980s, ROFL.

Plot: Serena's (Helena Bonham Carter !!!!!!!!!!!!!! How? !!!!!!) father is a huge gambler and manages to lose his house and estate including his daughter to another. After the tragic death of her father, Serena is sent to live with the man her father lost everything to: the hot Lord Vulcan (WTF? Is he emotionless? Or with a hot wife? What kind of a name is that?) and his eeeeeevil mother who is determined to get rid of serena by any means.

Here is a MV:

It's on Netflix, too, but also available entirely on youtube.

Then there is also available on Netflix/youtube another such adaptation, with Hugh Grant as the dashing,Robin Hood like highwayman (!!!!!!!!) called The Lady and the Highwayman. Plot: Newly Wed to the vile and lecherous Drysdale, the beautiful Lady Panthea Vine is saved on her wedding day by the dashing young Highwayman, the 'silver blade' (Hugh Grant!!!!!! Seriously, this will never get old). As he rides into the moonlight she vows never to forget the stranger who must, at the final outcome, save her from certain death! Heeee.

ETA: Curses. They just got removed from youtube for terms of use violation. BOO.

I think I saw both of these on TV several years ago, and yes, they truly were remarkably cheezy and hilariously bad. I loved mocking them and I remember that I was rolling with laughter while watching them :D.

*wanders over to see who plays Lord Vulcan, and dies laughing* Ancelyn! Ancelyn and Helena!

He's just slumming. Winifred will beat him senseless when he gets back.

Also, dude, Diana Rigg AND Christopher Plummer were in that movie, too. *cackles* When bad movies happen to good actors!

A Hazard of Hearts is appalling. Every time they said 'Lord Wrotham' ie hearing them pronounce Lord Root'em made me giggle ;)

Oh man. I saw one of these with Allison Doody-I think it was Duel of Hearts-and almost died. Couldn't make it more than 15 minutes into The Lady and the Highwayman.

As far as it starring Helena Bonham Carter...well, every actor and actress has a period where they have to take any role they can get...

YOU'RE ONLY SUPPOSED TO SEEK OUT THE GOOD THINGS I MENTION!

There is to be no blaming any eternal scarring on me.

I missed those, although I adored the cheesiness of Barbara Cartland in my younger days. So many ellipses, so little originality!

I'll have to look out for the one with Hugh Grant. It sounds AWESOME!

My roomie and I used to read Cartland out loud to each other to mock :)

I've actually seen the first one, way back in college days. I remember because I kept thinking 'wow, Helena Bonham Carter must really need the work.' So marvelously cheesey if my memory holds true; it goes well with several bottles of cheap red wine!

I am about to get it on netflix so I'll see *stocks on wine*

HEEEEEE! I watched "The Lady and the Highwayman"! It came free with "Daily Mail" to the pair of our very good retired friends and they gave it to me!!! It was not all that bad! (With Hugh Grant on a horse everything can't be lost) And even more - EEEEE! I own "A Hazard of Hearts" too from the same sources!

But mainly - THANK YOU SO VERY MUCH for sending "Bednaya Nastya"!!!!!!!!EEEEEEE! You are so kind and I am really really thankful!! I have already watched 4 episodes and I am afraid I am now lost to society forever (or until I finished watching it :D!)
