Just got back from 3:10 to Yuma.

Wow.

WOW.

This is my favorite movie of the year, by far, the first one I really fell in love with.

Christian Bale is amazing as a man who is all the more heroic for not being a hero, but someone fallible, flawed. But persevering nontheless. But the movie belongs to Russell Crowe who utterly steals it (as he has done every movie I've ever seen him in. I have yet to see a movie of his I didn't love). His character is a complete force of nature, and is irresistable, and complex and just...

And when the two of them square off with each other? It's total heaven.

P.S. I finally understand the appeal of slash :)

More detailed write-up to follow...

The best heroes are the ones who aren't actually heroes in the context we usually think of them. It's why most people think of Han Solo before they think of Luke Skywalker when they think of the classic Star Wars movies.

I'm watching this more for Christian Bale than Russell Crowe, but completely agree about Russell Crowe being a show stealer. He's the only really good thing I remember about that Sharon Stone cowboy movie(though at the time, I only watched it because the Magnificent Seven TV show had me all about hot cowboys...I blame Michael Biehn and Eric Close)

I don't think you can watch something about cowboys without at least half thinking about slash, even if it's just for a second.

Sharon Stone cowboy movie

The Quick and the Dead? I like the movie, though don't love it, but agree, he was the best thing in it. Not the first movie I saw him in though. That was LA Confidential. Didn't know who he was at all, but fell for him like a ton of bricks :) (Well, him and Guy Pierce. They must have special actor factories over in Australia).

It's all that manly bonding.

I'm watching this more for Christian Bale than Russell Crowe

Never fear, CB was incredible in this. But then, there are very few roles he is not incredible in.

The Quick and the Dead, that's it. I remember enjoying it while I watched it, but all I really remember about it now is his character. Especially in the big shootout. Anytime I think of the movie, I think of the bit where he just flips the rifle over his shoulder and fires. Don't ask me why.

And yes, Australia has some sort of factory.

It's all that manly bonding.

Yes, yes it is. Have you seen the Magnificent Seven TV show? It's all about 7 manly men bonding, angsting, shooting and hitting things. With some room for OTP-ing thrown in.

Never fear, CB was incredible in this. But then, there are very few roles he is not incredible in.

Yes. This is actually why I won't see movies where he plays the bad guy...I fear he'll be far, far too good at it. But hey, he made me like Batman...

Yes. Same story. The pilot is an adaptation of the movie rewritten to make room for continuation(in the series, the 7 are hired on to be peacekeepers for the town where they first meet before saving the indian village) It's one of my favorite series(I have the DVDs of both seasons but have been putting off watching them because once I do it's all over...) and is what made me like westerns.

Here's an MV of the main character, Chris:

He and the blonde you see a few times are the main OTP of the series. Sadly, the series ended before they got together(he was still way to messed up and the Evil Ex seriously messed him up even more in season 2) but both actors were shippers, which fills me with joy. They're one of my favorites even if hey never did make it to the kissing stage...they had the UST and stares and little touches down pat.

Bale was great, but Crowe was quite a magnificent bastard.

The movie would just become twice as irresistable when he was on screen.

I haven't seen this yet but I want to. Russell Crowe despite being a jerk is an amazing actor. If you see him in movies like Proof or Heaven's Burning he's totally different from how he was in Gladiator, LA Confidential etc. He's also super cute in his small but important part of the kid's movie The Silver Brumby ;)
