OMG.

OMG.

OMG.

NODAME CONTABILE.

You guys.

You guys

Why didn't you tell me how incredibly AWESOME was it? I shall ignore repeated and constant recommendations from my flist that you made about NC for ages.

OMG.

OMG.

Because of [livejournal.com profile] janlake83's post, I checked it out finally. And EEEEEEE!

So much love.

LOVE.

I adore classical music so this is extra cool, but even without it, this is PERFECT (and not just because the guy who plays Chiaki is one of the hottest people I've ever seen. A super-hot classical musician? I am SO there).

NC is a story of two music prodigies: the super-perfectionist Chiaki and the rather odd Nodame. They both attend a music academy and it goes on from there (for once I am staying away from spoilers).

So, what made me check it out? This scene posted by [livejournal.com profile] janlake83, which I shamelessly stole from her LJ:

Oh, and if I am stealing from her, I might as well steal this awesome MV:

Go to her Lj for more vids. You won't be sorry :)

Yeah, at first I didn't believe the hype, but when I check it out I realised it really was that good. And fun and adorable and awesome. I love how Nodame is so upfront about liking Chiaki!

i'm so happy that special's going to be filmed. i can drool over tamaki hiroshi again =P

Heeeeeeee. Yes, that was my reaction when I finally got around to watching it a few weeks ago. So very, very good on all levels.

And finally, Eita has a character where I love both him AND his character(we have an odd relationship, Eita and I...I've love him in everything I've seen him in before this, but never cared about his character before.)

Now, where's my Basara meta?

Date: 2007-09-10 06:48 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] dangermousie.livejournal.com
Basara meta will be long but forthcoming. I admit that most characters, except for Sarasa, Shuri and Ageha leave me not too in love, but it's only 6 volumes in and I've never been a huge secondary character girl. I have sympathies for Kazan though, and Blue King makes my skin crawl. Never could see the thing about Shido, not after his plan to kill even bystanders. Blah blah you are dead. I don't care.

Date: 2007-09-10 07:01 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] meganbmoore.livejournal.com
Secondary characters(particularly ChaCha, Zaki, and some friends Shuri and Sarasa will make in a bit) get fleshed out more later, and some of it just sneaks up on you...I didn't realized that I really liked ChaCha and Zaki until they were gone for a while and I was depressed about it.

Shido is interesting more for the impact his death had on the characters(specifically Shuri and Ageha and, to a lesser extent, Senju...I occassionally like but often forget Sarasa's sidekick, so don't count him) and what he meant to Shuri and Ageha and how he helped shape who they are than anything else(but Shuri get a much better Best Friend later.) He seems to have a big following, though.

Asagi also yet a big following but...yeah, he can be interesting at times and often serves an important role, but mostly, he's creepy. To me at least. I often want to punch him. However, he causes Shuri much manpain later on(even though Shuri was already in a state of extreme emotional angst and manpain) Every once in a while, though, he does something that awakens my woobie instinct. Not that it lasts long.

Kazan is hard not to sympathize with...falls in love with a woman whose husband and son he was forced to kill in duty and devotes his life snd forms a father/son relationship to a leader in a situation where they can never show more than master/servant. The sad thing is that Shuri loved him possibly more than Shido, but he could express his friendship with Shido but not Kazan, and id he hadn't been the one to kill her family, Sarasa's mother probably could have loved him.

Date: 2007-09-10 07:17 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] dangermousie.livejournal.com
I can definitely see possibility for future manpain for Shuri courtesy of his creepy half-brother because chb discovered that S/S are in love without knowing the truth and will surely use it.

I don't have any pity for him or for Shido because your background (or your ideals in the case of the latter) doesn't excuse you being a gigantic misery cyclone. I don't mind Shuri's hard headedness because not only is he trying his best, he has no illusions about himself being wonderful. AND he is climbing out of the pit of self-solipcism given to him by his horrid life (btw, unless we find something more about his background being horrid, he still loses awfulness stakes to Ageha. Fine, his Daddy branded him, but he didn't actually make him into a slave, he seems to have been sent to proper school).

Sarasa is definitely his link to humanity and his salvation though.

Date: 2007-09-10 07:36 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] meganbmoore.livejournal.com
Oh yes, Asagi will get taunting and angst mileage out of that.

I have no sympathy for Shido or Asagi either, but Asagi, against his will, does start to change and become good, even though he tries to hide it. Like Shuri, his link to humanity is Sarasa, and later on, he ignites my sympathy(never lasts more than 5 minutes, though)

Shuri knows exactly what he is from the start...he isn't doing what he's doing to be in charge, he's doing it because when he's done, he expects it to be a better place, a place where people like him have no place(he's kinda like the Operative guy in Serenity...he wants to make a world he can't exist in, because it'll be a world too good for people like him) He doesn't really start to see himself as having a place in that world until Sarasa. Have you seen Hero? At the beginning, Shuri is well on his way to becoming the emperor there...a hard, ruthless dictator who is only seen for that, but in reality is doing whatever is necessary to create a great empire for his people. Until Sarasa comes along, there's no room for sympathy and kindaness in his life. Then she kinda derails that and makes him rework his plans.

Ageha wins onthe sucky childhood bit, definately. Shuri's proper schooling is mostly Kazan and being allowed to bne a part of Shido's schooling, though, which is why he always thinks of everything in terms of strategy and results. There is more...part of the reason the red kingdom is the way it is is that it was, aside from small villages like Sarasa's, ruled by corrupt officials and a haven for every form of miscreant there was. The Black King sent Shuri there expecting him to die within a month, and instead, Shuri made it his and remade it from top to bottom. The brand actually did make him a slave, in a way, because it kept him from ever being able to take his proper place. Ageha's awful past is more external and easy to point to, Shuri's was more manipulation and internal, behind-the-scenes stuff. Even though, Asagi still wins.

First: jfhgjhdfghhjdg I'm sorry I did not emphasize your absolute diehard NEED to watch and love this drama but you know, as somebody who hates things being shoved down their throat, I do my best to avoid doing that sort of thing. I didn't want you to feel pressured to watch it as then it might be that it wouldn't be fun for you.

But yeah, it is a FANTASTIC drama and when you watch it all the way through, I'm sure you'll love it even more.

Tamaki Hiroshi is indeed one of the hottest people ever. Especially as Chiaki. Just ...guhhhh. And Nodame, though quirky as hell, is amazing, too.

Holy crap that MV was good. The song fits them a little too well. :D

Also, hey, did you manage to get a day off this week for meeting up purposes? I'm going to go see Chak De India and if you're going to be here, we could go together, if not, I'll just go on my own. I emailed you about this so you can just get back to me via email.

I am sorry, I can't make it :( I already took a week off so a day off so close in is kinda hard :(

as somebody who hates things being shoved down their throat, I do my best to avoid doing that sort of thing.

I hate that too. I've stayed away from some things precisely because of it.

I think I remember suggesting Nodame Cantabile to you, once, months ago, but I think you were in the midst of a Snow Queen marathon, so it may have gotten lost in translation. XD Chiaki is like that boy I always wanted to meet at orchestra camp (yes, I went to orchestra camp) but never did, and Nodame is all things endearing (albeit a little messy -- but hey, that's what Chiaki is for!). The drama has a great manga-style to it, and I am sure you'll really enjoy it.
