I have found this website which sells a whole huge amount of Russian language DVDs. Hmmmm. I ordered something as a trial thing, and if it works out, I am going to have a huge new money waster :)

This could be a truly terrifying thing.

Or a fascinating one.

Or both.

you should check out brother and country of the deaf". they're both strange and violent films, very bleak - and yet so very sincere and touching somehow. and Bodrov, Korzun and Khamatova are among best Russian new-generation actors (it's such a pity that Bodrov went MIA in Karmadon Kanyon). you'll like brother more, I think, in purely 'dorama' sence - it has wonderfully messed-up protagonist, who went out of war right into criminal SPb life and almost lost himself there. also, it has remarkable soundtrack. and country of the deaf is all about Khamatova and Korzun incredible acting duet - they really set on ripping your heart out.

Have you seen Nightwatch/Daywatch, the Russian movies based on the popular SciFi/Fantasy series yet?

No. I am not a huge horror fan, and haven't read the book yet either, though [livejournal.com profile] fire_snake tells me they aren't bad. I might though, one of these days.

I have them on audiobook and I have to say, I was really quite surprised to enjoy them.

Brat aka Brother

Then there was Brother, too (well, actually Brat-2) where he went to good ol'
Brighton Beach and singlehandedly killed off most of the Russians living there on the assumption that everybody who left Mother Russia for the U.S. must have had a criminal sentence hanging around their necks for participating in the organized crime. At least, it was my take on the whole subject.

yes, the speed they moved from 'angsty and morally ambiguous" to 'shotgun rules everything' and cheerfull mass killings was rather discouraging. and soundtrack was so much worse than in the first one; actually, overall quality just dropped, which was sad.

I always knew there was something fishy about my great-aunt. Clearly she was a fearsome mob leader of the wheelchair mafia!
