Yessss! I found my new anime binge! Hakuoki is a two season + OVA anime where the heroine shacks up with the Shinesengumi and becomes the OTP of Hijikata Toshizo, who's a vampire here.

This is so insane and perfect that I simply must watch for myself.

I mean, if you want to think of a Western equivalent, it's would be as if someone made a series about a young lady hanging out with the American Revolutionary Army and knocking boots with Madison, who liked to drink human blood. Pretty much as random as that sounds.
