I got desperate and watched eps 13/14 raw.
gurlygirl10 was completely right when she said this veered into lakorn territory. (Thankfully, since it isn't a really a lakorn, there was no raping or abuse).
But seriously! OMFG. Here are my two favorite scenes, compiled by a kind soul:
I have no words for the dysfunction.
You know, there is NO WAY they can have a happy ending. There is too much between them. Even if somehow miraculously, Sooyang decided to let him live, he cannot let go of his vendetta and we all know, historically Sooyang lived to a ripe old age. Not to mention, however monstrous he may be, Sooyang has always been a good and loving father to Se Ryung, and if Seung Yoo kills her father, what future can they have?
I think her getting shot like this at the end was absolutely crucial. SY can only cope with everything by trying to believe that everything associated with Sooyang is evil - that Se Ryung never loved him, that she used him. That is why he tries to fight any signs that this isn't true - her hug, her stroking his shadow, the cut on her neck from when she tried to buy his life with her own. Because to believe she is evil and heartless would make it easier. But he cannot push away the fact that she gave up her life (or did her best) to save his. And that was after he kidnapped her to lure Sooyang, without giving her a kind word. After he shot her father in front of her. If anything is capable of snapping him out of his solely-vengeance mindset, that would be it. Of course, that would make it all worse, if what she felt for him was real - because then he has a choice between vengeance and love and it's a hopeless one either way.
Also, it was pretty important, I thought, to have the three men who love her see her wounded and near death as a result of their choices. Seung Yoo is so fixated on revenge that he is treating her as collateral damage, burying his feelings, refusing to believe hers. In trying to strip his humanity away, he is getting closer to being like his enemy Sooyang. And he sees what this can lead to. Sooyang finally sees his chickens come home to roost. When you come to power through seas of blood, some of that blood may follow home - some of the victims may want to pay back and those you love will be endangered due to your ambitions. Maybe this will be a check on him? Ironically, Myun is the only one I don't blame. It makes sense to shoot the attempted murderer. Nobody in their right mind would think the hostage would try to protect her kidnapper with her body. Still, if Myun gave Seung Yoo some breathing room, some hope - back in ep 9 - if he promised to at least care for his sister-in-law and niece, SY would think he has something left to live for, he would not be so driven to the edge.
Also, SR must really love SY. I'd be tempted to yell at him "Yeah, yeah, you had to watch your whole family get murdered/enslaved in front of your eyes and then get hunted like a dog, and it was done by my father. I am very sorry. But it wasn't my fault! Take your temper elsewhere!" :P
