Hey, cdrama flisties, help me pick!

I was considering checking out The Legend and the Hero or The Legend and the Hero 2. The first has Fan Bing Bing and the second Ruby Lin, and I like the both though prefer the former (strongly - I adore FBB beyond words). And the second has Victor Huang, who I find scrumptuous, as the guy who leads the revolt against evil King Shou of Zhang. Plus, you know me and period cdramas.
HOWEVER, after digging around, I found out that King Shou and Da Ji, his fave wife, are the protagonists of both.
Ummmmm. UMMMM. I am not sure how that would work, as King Shou was supposed to be legendarily evil and decadent and Da Ji was basically a psychopath who did things like cut a pregnant woman open to see how a baby develops, or had a minister's heart torn out because she wanted to check out its chambers.
So the thought of them being the leads is pretty insane. I can't say that it's not an interesting exercise, having the villains be the protagonists, but it's one I am better at contemplating from afar - the thought of spending the bulk of my viewing time watching two murderous horrors isn't really my thing.
Or am I wrong? Has anyone seen this? Is it bearable? Or did they retcon Da Ji and/or Shou into a decent human being? Or are the Victor Huang parts lengthy and overshadow the evil twosome? Do tell.
Have a trailer for 2:
