Very typically, after all my romcom craving, now that there are three airing, the ones I want most to watch are pretty far from romcom territory - Ripley and City Hunter. They both recently released trailers and held presscons.
Ripley's trailer:
It looks beyond amazing.
mookiehyun commented that it reminds her of 1990s melos, and I can see that - it has the same simplicity and the same melancholy vibe. It looks also likely to pack the same emotional wallop. It does not look or feel old-fashioned at all - it's 1990s melo modernized and given a much darker tinge. (Have I ever seen a drama heroine sexually harassed? No). Sort of Bali meets Bad Guy (before it went bad). If it works for me half as well as did Bali, with its down-and-out, morally ambiguous heroine and really dark heroes, I would be ecstatic. The one weakness I can see is that I think the secondary girl is going to bore me - her cutesy wholesomeness is pretty out of place in a dark drama. But who knows.
City Hunter's long trailer:
Presscons:
Here is Lee Min Ho with Park Min Young for City Hunter. LMH, once again, does not disappoint - are those textured leather pants??? Or leather overalls under the coat? I am not sure I want to know. When you are dressed weirder than a bona fide pop idol, i.e. Yoochun seen below in presscon for Ripley, you know you need to re-evaluate your sartorial choices. PMY seems to have just wrapped a towel around herself. A very short towel, though not as short as her female co-star's.

Here are the leads of Ripley. They are dressed pretty conservatively which, sadly, deprives me of much snark.

I am pretty excited for both dramas, though more for Ripley.
