Is it just me or was LJ out of commission for most of the day?

Anyway, back to usual.

I wonder if anyone on my friends list has seen Sweet Bird of Youth, the 1962 movie with Paul Newman, Geraldine Page, Shirley Knight and Ed Begley.

If you haven't, might I recommend it? I first watched it a long time ago, but I just rewatched it the other day and LOVE. LOVE. Everything I love in my movies: damaged protagonists, dysfunctional families, an OTP that pushes all my kinks, angst with happy ending.

SBoY is loosely based on a Tennessee Williams play of the same name. Since I never read the play (I am not a huge TW fan), I can't say if it's better/worse/equal to the play, but in its own right, it's an awesome movie (I also adore the ending much more than the play's ending).

SBoY follows Chance Wayne (Paul Newman. The man is too gorgeous to be real, seriously), a man desperate for success and willing to do almost anything for it. Ergo, he is a gigolo. He is with his latest client, Alexandra (Geraldine Page), a washed-out actress who had just made her comeback attempt, when because of circumstances, they end up temporarily stranded in a small Southern town. This town is Chance's hometown, run by the manipulative, sadistic Boss Finley (Ed Begley). Boss Finley is the father of the one girl Chance has ever loved, Heavenly (Shirley Knight)...

It goes from there. I love watching all the main characters: Chance, who is so incredibly messed up (and oh boy, did Boss Finley help) but no matter his tries, so out of his league when faced with someone truly ruthless, Alexandra, fragile and aging and still mesmerizing. Boss Finley, the irresistable monster, and the appropriately/symbolically named Heavenly, pure yet not untouched by the misery/evil around her.

My favorite scene is Chance falling apart in front of our eyes when he finds out that Heavenly was pregnant with his child and Boss Finley made her have an abortion.

OMG!angst

Oh, and the ending, him coming to the house and screaming 'Heavenly!' and just repeating it, even as he is being beaten basically to death. And Heavenly running out to him and finally they are free of temptations and sins and past.

The ending turns me into a pile of girly goo.

An awesome OTP MV:

Apparently there was a blackout in San Diego where the 6A servers are located. Is it sad that I was in near panic when LJ was down? Probably, yeah, haha. >_<

hmmm...I usually go for noir, mystery or romantic comedy (or best yet, some combination...there are no words for my love of the Thin Man movies) but this does sound rather good.

Did you know there's a DVD set with almost every other movie William Powell and Myrna Loy did together coming out next month(it doesn't include Libelled Lady and one other)

Nick and Nora are also one of the major things that Remington Steele is based on.

Thanks for the recommendation, I'm adding it to my list of possible to-watch.

And yes, LJ was out most of the day.
