And he does...

Oh my God. This OTP is the reason I am following a 50-ep drama in which every other storyline does not interest me. But the OTP - oh good God, how they hit every kink I have.

The thing that I like about this scene (in addition to insane chemistry and shippiness) is that it stikes me as rather real - Saran and Damo's challenges aren't (as of yet, at least) evil parents, status differences or birth secrets. Their worldviews really do not mesh, as yet.

The set-up is fairly simple. He takes her to lunch and on the way back asks her to stop by a hotel for a one-night stand (clearly it was something he wanted the moment he picked her up, seeing the restaurant location). In his head, there is nothing the matter with asking the girl he met a few times to join him in acting out on their mutual and obvious attraction without even the pretense of dating (in fact, he has a marriage meeting set-up and doesn't factor it in at all). In a liberal society such as big-city USA, this could be a bit iffy (OK, a lot iffy), with a traditional woman like Saran in Korea, it's a whole other level of offensive. The thing is, it's clear he's not a bad guy - he has no problem taking no for an answer and is doing anything he can to make sure he can drive her home so she won't have to walk as she plans to do. But the built-in classism and sexism of his attitude is not something he even comprehends (he's a little puzzled why she's so angry at his suggestion - not like he dragged her, after all). I love that they fight it out and I love that she is tough and I love that she actually has to explain to him that this made her feel like a whore. Significantly, that is when he really gets it, and that is when he gets down on his knees.

I don't know - within the melodrama set-up, I find their interactions oddly realistic. And I love that mad or not, he is going to do anything to make sure she doesn't have to walk in the winter.

At lunch:

He asks her up to a hotel.

She walks off.

And refuses to get into his car even though he promises he won't touch her and she has miles to walk.

So he gets out of the car and during their whole fight/conversation, she keeps walking by him and he keeps getting back into the car, driving two paces, and coming out. I love it.

Damo: I'm sorry. It was a misunderstanding.
Saran: What was?
Damo: People who meet for the first time and have mutual feelings for each other usually do this.
Saran: Do you live like this?
Damo: We've already met each other five times.
Saran: No, we've seen each other but we've never met properly. Please adjust your actions accordingly.
Damo: I'm really sorry. I said, I am sorry. Get in my car anyway. I will escort you home without touching even one strand of your hair.
Saran: I don't need it.
Damo: What do you need me to do in order for you to forgive me? What do you want me to do?
Saran: Apologize! On your knees.
Damo: You want me to get on my knees? Forget it! How dare such a young person act so obnoxiously. Stop. Does it make you that angry?
Saran: Think about it if you were in my position.
Damo: If I were you, I would have just accepted the apology. It's not like I committed a crime deserving to die; it was just a slight misunderstanding.
Saran: JUST a misunderstanding...Please don't label this as such.
Damo: Is this something you should be that angry over?
Saran: You totally looked down on me!
Damo: If I had looked down on you, I wouldn't have even brought you there!
Saran: Thank you, really!
Damo: Would you want skinship with anyone?
Saran: Skinship? Skinship is putting it nicely. Unbelievable.
Damo: Yes. I just wanted to hug you once. If you can't stand me, then hit me.

So she does :) I love his reaction which is to yell at her that if she did so, she should at least get into the car. Awwwww.

And then the crux of the matter comes out.
Damo: You! You are brutal, aren't you?!
Saran: It's better than being a lowlife.
Damo: You should have at least expected this when you followed me. Are you that innocent? You said you were old enough!
Saran: I thought we were just going to talk over a meal. That you would act like those old men, is something that I never expected. Skinship? I probably would have let you hold my hand. For following a dirty playboy like you here...I am the pathetic one who is tramp-like.

I love that she's crying when she's saying it and I love that this is when he finally realizes his fault and that he's hurt her - that she's not just angry, she's really really hurt. And so this follows. Oh my GOD.

And as he starts to kneel in the middle of the dirty street, she stretches out her hand to stop him. I love the look on her face - shock mixed with forgiveness and a bit of tenderness. And the way he's looking up at her, vulnerable and open. Awwww, woobies.

And then she silently gets into his car.

End scene. Mousie is on the floor...
